not at all, many many child abuse cases have only come to light in recent years especially those from childrens homes back then. All that stuff was around then but what you didnt have was the intense 24hr media coverage you get now which makes it look worse. Crime figures are national interest now and reported more and more, will grant that all is not well with society but there was plenty wrong back then too just didnt get reported or just wasnt talked about. Rose tinted specs and the passage of time just mask it.

Which part of England would you allow your children to go out a play, cycle or walk to school unsupervised in this day and age,as the likes of Pete and I did from the age of five.  Which bank would you go to where the manager knew you personally and would advance a loan on the strength of his own judgement. Who would you sell or buy from with only a shake of the hand as your guarantee.Which policeman would you trust to help you if you needed help always supposing you could find one if you needed help. Oft times now if you dial 999 you get referred to the crimestoppers number or told there isn't anyone available to respond. The last time I had a car broken into was in the Oaklands carpark in 1970,there was a policeman there within 15 minutes and within 14 days my stuff had been recovered and the bloke who did it was being prosecuted. Thats not rose tinted thats what it was like.

I agree with Icy,

The 60's was a lot better time to be young than today,

The only thing I can say about todays standard of living and crime is,

Its a lot better to be young today than in 20-30 years from now,

Because I can only see it getting worse.

Sad I know.

You are not young now so how would you know that? Its like the old who was best Ali or Tyson? Joe Davis  or Steve Davis, its all relative. Am not saying things arent bad now but just that it wasnt all roses around the front door and morning vicar back then either.

I'm sorry but working with kids as I do for my job and having a 2 year old little boy myself,  I felt physically sick at the story from Plymouth.

I would gladly execute them all personally with no remorse whatsoever, and even if this wasn't a deterrent for future abusers, they would know what they'd get if caught!

So they refuse to name their victims then.  Already people are saying offer them a reduction in sentence if they do.

Why not:

attatch them to a lie detector,

Show them a photograph of every single child that attended the Nursery when they were there.  Ask them if that child was abused.

I know lie detectors are not 100% foolproof but it may give a good indication ?

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

We didn't have to get drunk every night, take copious amounts of drugs, mugging and un-explicable random beatings and kickings were very rare and life was led at a much much slower pace.

The views of a cynic. And not to be taken too seriously, although I do believe its a given that the sixties were the very best years to be young.

First point.... You ( like me ) obviously didnt live in Ulceby.....

Secondly...... ahhhhh misty eyed at the memories of those swinging sixties......

.... Youth is wasted on the young.....

My postal address was Ulceby.  PC Cook was our village copper (lived in the cop shop in Ulceby).  Les Lockin was our postie and a special constable lived in Ulceby as did my dentist Mr. Curley.  i lived in a much smaller place than Ulceby though. Thornton Curtis.

Amazingly enough, our "Liberal" chums seem to have stayed away from this thread.
You are quick enough to critisize on other issues, so where are you now ?

Personally speaking Civvy, I would love to batter them to within an inch death but just stop short of death (and that Connolly couple) every day. But other than venting some anger, I don't think it would do any good.

It won't help to stop kids getting abused. We all know the US has the harshest penalties in the developed world, yet they have the highest murder rate.

I think you mistake liberals for people who think with the heart when its the opposite. We think with our heads.

I suspect you also think liberals are necessarily soft on criminals. Personally I'm not. But rather than just locking em up or killing them, I think we should lock them up and use the opportunity to learn what makes them tick so we can stop it happening with other people.

Your average right wing numpty can't think ahead that far so we'd just have an endless merry-go-round of violence.

Too much thinking...not enough executing. (right wing numpty). As Aryan Imp said, I would be happy to send the evil illegitimates to hell and I would sleep tight.
