I don't buy a paper every day by any means but I normally go for The Independent these days. I used to read the mirror once upon a time but I stopped buying any of the tabloids after the death of Princess Diana.

I buy one tabloid a week every week.................... The Angling Times.  For daily news and sport I just use the BBC website.

The Daily Mirror, though its starting to urine me off now. Ok, Jacko's death was a major news story but its been on the front page almost every bloody day since he died whilst when 8 of our lads were killed in Afghanistan recently that was on page 5 or 6.

I read The Times. Used to read The Guardian but personally think the standard of journalism and the sports coverage in particular are superior in The Times.

I used to read the mirror but either I grew out of it or it just got really poor about 2 years ago, I did see the front page headline a few weeks ago on the mirror was "Jacko buried without his brain" so feel vindicated in my choice. These days I read the Metro in the morning because its free and the manchester evening news because its free. I do tend to buy the Observer on Sunday but find most of that to be chaff.

We have The Shropshire Star delivered each evening, the wife likes it, I don't.

So in answer to your question, none!

As you might expect I used to read The Guardian. Lately I've gravitated towards the Independent. I personally think the best sports coverage in the country is currently delivered by the Daily Telegraph. Pity about the editorials...

I have a subscription to The Times. In terms of sports coverage it is excellent but all-round it is a good paper.

Like Les I also catch the Mirror but it is becoming something of a joke. Todays' headline concerns Jacko and a missing nose. A week back it was Jacko and a missing brain. In between it is Jacko, Jacko, Jacko.

I don't know who is the Mirror editor these days but they are desecreting a great name in the history of British journalism.

They use to say,

People who read the TIMES think they run the country,

People who read the TELEGRAPH want to run the country,

People who read the GUARDIAN actually run the country,

People who read the SUN don't care who runs the country,

As long as they have got big bosom

The full version comes from the much underrated comedy Yes, Minister:

Hacker: Don't tell me about the press. I know exactly who reads the papers.
The Daily Mirror is read by people who think they run the country;
The Guardian is read by people who think they ought to run the country;
The Times is read by the people who actually do run the country;
The Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country;
The Financial Times is read by people who own the country;
The Morning Star is read by people who think the country ought to be run by another country;
And The Daily Telegraph is read by people who think it is.

Sir Humphrey: Prime Minister, what about the people who read The Sun?

Bernard: Sun readers don't care who runs the country, as long as she's got big tits.

Tend to only buy a paper on Sat now. The Guardian. Its football coverage is excrement though. For a left of centre paper that otherwise is on the side of the poor and dispossessed, its obsessed with the Premiership, and very little about the wider issues in the sport.

Pick up the Metro and the evening freebies on the train (never the Standard) if I haven't got a decent book to read or need to veg out.

BBC R4 and R5 for news and sport. BBC website and Guardian site for news. Helsingin Sanomat (int version) on-line for the Finnish perspective. Occasionally Russia Today for Putin's view.

Where does Putin feel that Town will finish this season ?

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

The Guardian.

Sometimes the Mirror, although rarely. I agree with other comments - it's standards are dropping rapidly. Too much celebrity shite and not enough left-wing politics.

I pick up the Socialist Worker or Morning Star when I can, too.

Guardian on pre paid subscription - it's 33% cheaper that way - and the Herald on Sunday. Can't help but agree with the sports coverage in the Guardian though, football it's all Premiership. Sometimes don't get lower league results in some nights if there's no Premiership games to wax lyrical over.
Plus, it's the only paper that prints my letters since I left Grimsby nearly 20 years ago now. The Telegraph used to be peppered with letters from me.

No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I'm concerned they're lower than vermin. Aneurin Bevan.

I have stopped buying m,ost papers.  The red tops are mince.  I usually read The (Glasgow) Herald online.  I bought the Times recently and thought it would be too right wing for me but I thought it was fairly balanced.
