He was a great all round keeper. Good at all the key areas and consistent. He was an outstanding shot stopper, particularly from close range. And it didn't matter who was in defence, he was in charge of the penalty box.

The 3 shirts thing would explain how he looked a bit chunky at times.

Shamefully my clearest memory of him is of him saving a penalty I took against him at my school. He went on to let all the girls' penalties in. I went home a bit disillusioned.

He would take goal kicks with one foot, and drop kick it with the other foot. Two footed.

What was his playing career? he has no internet presence whatsoever

Everton away in the pouring rain in '84 was his finest hour (and a half). He just wasn't being beaten that night.

Still my favourite Town keeper.

He was ace Batchy! Great at everything. When I first started going there would always be a big voice shouting from the Pontoon….’Nigel…..where’s your 3 wheeler?’. I never understood what it meant, but it was a motif….
He would smile and wave.

One of the best consistent goalkeepers we have ever had. It was a pleasure to watch him.

When I was mascot early 80's batch missed his first game in something like 2-300 consecutive matches. Who was the reserve goaly? Been at club for years but never got a game normally because batch played every week!

I’ve mused on this loads who was the best keeper since I started going in 1977/8 still can’t decide between Batchy & Danny Coyne.

He never played for England but he could definitely swear for this country 😂

That was a fine save by him, but on the flip side he didn't do all that well for the equaliser did he  ;)

that would have been Peter Grotier. Played about 10 games in 5 seasons or so at the club.

You also had David Felgate.

Batch was the GK when I first started watching Town.

He always seemed quite small for a keeper by today's standards.

As per post above - him and Coyne are the two stand out keepers for me... although maybe nostalgia is playing its part there.

Alan Barnett  1958,  Excellent goalkeeper.

Rhys Wilmot  1992, who we fortunately recouped the fee we paid, by selling him to Crystal Palace.

Saw him v Chelsea  v west ham  v Liverpool  v Everton  they were the days  they will be back UTM  get in to them  today

You beat me to it with Alan Barnett. I remember seeing him as a young boy thinking how good he was. He always had a bit of banter with the crowd behind the goal and nearly always asked which horse won a certain race.

Slightly different.

Charlie Wright once mentioned how he liked oranges.

From then on, the fans behind his goal would virtually fill the net with oranges.
