There aren't enough teams willing to arrange reserve games, and when they do, they often go on to cancel them.

Without a proper reserve league set up, like there used to be, it's impossible to arrange regular games.

Pity really because I love a midweek afternoon trip to BP.

Used to go in the old Barrett stand for reserve matches. Once saw George McLean score four against Barnsley res, I think just before he became a regular. Their keepers first goal kick went straight to George who promptly put it in to the net. After that, every time the keeper had a goal kick, George stood on the edge of the penalty box beckoning him to kick  it to him again…. With a huge grin on his face! What a.character.

I remember watching Town in the old Midland League and not the one we were once relegated to

Often went when Town were away and even went to see them play away once.

The highlight of the reserves was when we got 7000 (probably not the actual attendance) playing Liverpool at home

No.
Pretty sure I went and it was just a busier than normal Main Stand from memory....
remember similar with CHIIMMMAAAAAA as well, quite a buzz about the place but in his case never really amounted to much.

How many witnessed Fumaca grace the BP turf in 1999?

I did.

Genuinely thought that he was the next Ivano and would catapult us to the Premier League...

Used to love the reserve games, nice competitive environment with a mix of players on the edge of the first team and promising youngsters.  This was the same for all sides so it wasn't the glorified youth game they became in later years.

Many things have contributed to the demise of the reserve leagues, none less so than the Premier League's obsession with their Academy/Under 23 sides.

Jose Antunes. On trial with Ademola Bankole wasn’t he?

Not quite. The main stand was fairly full, and they opened the corner between the Main and Osmond if my memory serves me correct. I was the Head Steward for that match. It was the only Reserve game I remember that had a Police presence too, just because of the numbers that were expected.
