Europa League Final.

Thought Anthony Taylor has reffed it pretty well so far under difficult circumstances, usual cheating and play acting and hounding the officials by the Spanish and Italians.

HT.....Sevilla 0-1 Roma

Not seen any of it tonight but I can imagine you can see a lot of that happening at BP every other week through the season by English/British lads.

I can see Bono giving Sevilla The Edge in the shootout

The worst “major” final, I’ve seen in a while.

Thought the officials did well in impossible circumstances.

Both teams behaviour, particularly from the benches - was pretty appalling.

Apart from Mouriniho getting a fine and ban both FIFA and EUFA cannot see owt wrong with all the play acting and cheating that goes on in the game, at all levels today, but it is the one thing that fans want to see stopped, quite amazing the way it’s viewed by those running the game and those that watch the game.

Fixing it is simple though isn't it, the powers are already there there's just a culture of allowing it to happen.  If a player takes a dive, yellow card for simulation.  Bench kicks off?  Yellow card for dissent.  It would only take all officials keeping to the same standard for 5-6 games before teams cut it all out themselves to avoid losing 6 players a game and having the manager watching from row z.

The fact they can solve it and choose not to tells you all you need to know, adds to 'the drama' which sells the product I suspect

Mourinho needs a long, long ban and a massive fine.

Jose is just a massive bell end, for someone who is clearly intelligent how he could think his behaviour is good leadership I'll never know.

It really shouldn't have to be a consideration in a "civilised" society but just what were UEFA doing allowing him / planning him to go through the same airport as the fans on a day when they would all likely be travelling home as well ?

Spot on keep throwing the yellows and reds at it for a few games and it will soon stop. Add to that with looking at video after games for things like it the ref missed and ban players. Same with all the pushing and pulling at set pieces, give a dozen penaltys every game and it will decrease significantly.

Myself I find it quite amusing at times when its a bunch of foreigners but really annoys me at our level unless it involves goalies with cramp

He is one of our best referees I don't know what they would have done if they had to put up with some of the dross that have refereed some of our games in the last few years.

Agree that the cheating has to be stamped out the game as it's getting worse now.
Apart from the falling down when they have never been touched and the swarming round the ref if a decision did not go their way.
The holding and pushing that goes on at every corner really annoys me but the ref is in a difficult position as he can not keep is eyes on all the players and can not say which player started because they all do it.

The experts on TV say on some cases 'thats a blatant penalty and they got away with it ' so maybe the dreaded VAR. ref should interfere more and either give a pen or a free kick for the defending team but a booking each time it happens would solve the problem.

I won't hold my breath though as it will never happen.

One of the fundamental problems is that if you start handing out yellow and red cards for diving, manhandling in the box and backchat to the ref a lot of games will very quickly be down to 8 v 8 (especially in Italy).

That may be a price worth paying in the short term but long term it would not be good for the game as entertainment.

And I would thank you for not mentioning Philip Schofield and 'manhandling in the box' in the same sentence.

Mourinho' petulant and abusive behavoir in the coach park after the game was an embaressment, the fans at the airport where nothingess than a disgrace and a ban from European competions would not be too harsh a punishment in my opinion.

Yeah awful from the staff from both teams. They are not happy with Anthony Taylor though, and I did wonder about this a while ago with regards to a foreign ref, refereeing a match involving an English team or an English ref, refereeing 2 foreign teams, and whether the rules are the same.

For example I have seen decisions go against the English team when it would have probably been given in the EPL (penalty shout etc, fouls etc), or the handball they are claiming, which hits his arm by his side, where as in the EPL Taylor would have probably not awarded a penalty (although we got an unfortunate one against Southampton), but is that the same rule in La Liga / Serie A?  I guess maybe Jose expected for it to be given because it probably would in Serie A.

I watched most of the game (missed some of extra-time) and thought the referee did a decent enough job. No idea why Mourinho was having a rant at him, given many referees would have given Sevilla a foul in the build up to Roma's opener.

Sevilla the better team in general, though they weren't far off Roma in the shithousery stakes. An appalling game which nobody really deserved to win.

I hope they throw the book at Mourinho.

Just keep UK referees out of these highly charged European finals.
They deserve better than that - no way can they quell the masses and the thug managers of those foreign teams

JM is such a sore loser. Let's face it, it's not as if the Seville keeper deliberately handled the ball outside the box in the 19th minute and didn't get a red card. Now that is true injustice.

Sorry to bring it up again, but it still riles me after 8 years!
