Can't get in a National League side but some of our fans thought he could be our saviour. Asante was a late sub for Solihul as well

Hmmmm....well to be fair....the Chris Clements that finished last season with 4 goals in 16 (?) appearances would generally have appeared to be more of an asset than the Berrett Summerfield combination that have scored.....(Confused)... 0 in their 30+ combined this season ??

Perhaps as a loan player, he does not try as hard as a regular as he`s just there for a short time, he looked ok to me whilst he was here but don`t think he will be back

He really should 'try hard' as his career is at a crossroads. If he fails at Barrow (if that's where he is, I can't remember) then I doubt he will have too many Football League suitors when we release him. Although a manager change at Town may give him another opportunity.

Chris Clements epitomises our recruitment policy in recent years don't you think?  Players that are not in demand. Where fans of previous clubs have labelled them as not 100% committed or downright useless. Bargain basement really. When did the club state the hairs on the back of your neck etc...? We are still waiting.

Absolutely, although to give Paul Hurst credit, he didn't tolerate anyone not doing their jobs or giving their all. Remember the talented Scott Neilson? I think he's in the Ryman league now, I'd argue he has or had more talent than any of our players, maybe barring Dembele but he was podgy, or at least carried too much weight and PH got rid. We maybe unfair on Clements, we don't know what's gone on there. He missed a large amount of pre season and the actual season with a personal issue, which went on too long IMO.

Maybe Slade's judgement of some of our contracted players should be acknowledged.
Although his new signings are not inspirational, there was a lot of imbalance/dross that he inherited. He is trying to sort it out before we get new.

No doubt the keyboard warriors will have their say, but many will agree with the above.

Maybe there was but he shouldn't have used it as an excuse to sign some more.

Whole point of a forum isn't it?

I take it by keyboard warriors, you mean people who don't share your rosy view?

Have checked it out.
Really pleased for Rhys
Think it was his decision to leave to join the former club of his father and GTFC had been very supportive whilst he tried to get over losing his dad.

Why are you using the term 'keyboard warriors'? Are you trying to be inflammatory in an oh so adult way?

I think Slade has judged some of the inherited dross correctly, and yet he persists with Berrett and Summerfield, and Vernon - the very encapsulation of 'bang average' (at best).

What sort of compromises your position is the calibre of players he's signed that is even worse than the 'dross' you say he inherited. Kelly, Dixon, Hooper, Matt, Woolford - all poor at this level in my opinion.

He's signed one maybe two good players and inherited 3 or 4 good ones. We are stuck playing aimless hoofball with the other 20+, whatever their origin. And some are contracted next year too! Nice work GTFC.

I wouldn't put Summerfield  in the same group as Berrett and Vernon-  he's been the star man in most games this season.

Other than being played as a defensive midfielder, as opposed to his preferred position as an attacking midfielder, I'm not sure what else Berrett could have done this season. There have been far, far worse than him.

You could argue that Slade has gotten the best out of two players that he inherited and were completely written off by most. They’ve probably been two of our most consistent performers. Whilst we’ve been hit with injuries in that position.

Not that it’s done the team as a whole much good, mind.

Berrett and Summerfield have probably been our most consistent performers - that speaks volumes for the rest of the players, as those two playing at their best are probably average performances for the playoff teams!

Slade was left with several decent players in Jones, Osborne, Collins, Davies and Mills. He’s filled out the rest of the squad with shite like Dixon, Clarke, Woolford and Hooper. He has also continued to play average performers such as Vernon and the midfield two. His only two decent signings have been Dembele and Jaiyesemi.

The team that played Exeter had an average age of 30. THIRTY! Take out Dembele and Jones and it’s 31. What the intercourse is that about.

We haven’t got the players to play long ball because they aren’t strong or quick. We haven’t got the players to play passing football because they aren’t good enough on the ball (except Dembele and maybe Summerfield). So what else are we supposed to do?

Finally, what the hell does Karleigh Osborne have to do to get a game?!

Good point about the age thing but would say that Collins has not exactly been blameless this season (lost his man on Saturday). Regarding your point about being good enough on the ball, my thought is that you can only pass the ball to a colleague in space and our front players don't work hard enough when they haven't got the ball - they seem to be waiting rather than moving. DJ improved that aspect on Saturday but he's far from the finished article whereas Vernon just looks finished.

I’d agree with that, but then reiterate that because Collins and Clarke are making consistent mistakes, surely Osborne needs to have a chance.

I’d also agree with the lack of movement but then that goes back to tactics. The middle is far too deep, the forwards are always with their backs to the goal so we don’t play through balls and all of our attacking play comes from the wing. It just shows that none of our players are fast - Dembele and DJ are quick off the mark but get caught up with due to their little legs :)

Clements might be an average league 2 player again some day  . . . .  if he loses around 2 stone

Clements was a good player for us last season as his excellent goals return from what was a mostly defensive midfield role showed.

No idea why Slade is looking to get rid or if Clements still has some issues this season, but he's certainly a very capable player at this level when he's on his game as his record here and elsewhere shows.

Said it before and I know people disagree but I saw nothing in Clements last season to suggest he was anything more than a bang average League 2 player

Even if you were right (which in my opinion you’re not).  It would still make him as good as what we have now.

Why have we started a post having a pop at a player who is out on loan?

FFS leave the lad alone to try and get his career the kick start it needs, he's working away from his family every day to try and move forward give him some credit for that at least.

Four goals in 16 appearances from central midfield is rather better than bang average. In fact, it's only 2 goals less than all our other central midfielders combined managed last season.

More worrying is that this season, all our central midfielders together have scored just 2 goals (both Rose), one of which was a penalty. Pretty rubbish. I'd imagine Clements would have bagged a couple if he'd been playing.

Would be nice to have a bang average league 2 player surely......better than the bang average non league standard players we currently have in the side.

Or you could say he has not got the best out of the players he has signed or you could say he has just signed poor players.

Too true, my source said he wasn't and that was why we sent him out on loan.

I heard Summerfield also struggled to get a place in the Macclesfield team towards the end of last season. He's looked a different player for us though this season. Clements had been playing regularly for Barrow though until the last game.

I wasn't that impressed when Clements first arrived but I actually Slade got the best out of him towards the end of last season. So much so I couldn't believe we'd let him go out on loan but kept Summerfield. Summerfield has caused me to change my mind on that with some of his performances this season.

Summerfield has always worked harder than Clements. It seems to me, Slade has made Summerfield more positionally and aware and to stopped him running around all over the pitch. Conversely, Slade seemed to have encourage Clements to put more of a shift in which was always his downfall. Maybe that was what the falling out was about over the Summer.

That is Clements though. Sometimes good sometimes a liability. Seems he is the same at Barrow judging by these comments

Quoted from "Barrow vs Aldershot match thread"

Sounding like a different team here, All fighting for the cause & players smiling, uplifting stuff so far, Clements bossing the middle.

Quoted from "Barrow vs Macclesfield match thread"

If yusseff takes his chances different game, hall and clements struggled in midfield especially clements his work rate was non existent

Berrett
Summerfield
Vernon
Dixon
Clements
Clarke
Hooper
Davies

Average players in an average league which is fine if John fenty hadnt promised us an "assault on the league" his words not mine when Russell slade was appointed  .

The truth of it is our recruitment this year has been very poor and doesn't fit to What we was led down the garden path too,  I just can't help but feel the way out our club runs it self top to bottom also adds to the anger and frustration.

I keep saying it but until we get a lottery winner or a new chairman then we are stuck like this with frustration running through us all.
