For varying reasons, he never really got going in a Town shirt. But his time at Blundell Park was probably too early in his career.  Every chance we'll see him return to the EFL over the summer, though.....

Beverley born - could be an option…if we can all block out his first spell from our minds…all I can recall about him is thinking he was a taller version of Eddie (Steve) Saunders - complete randomness about his running lines and control of the ball…

Huge contribution in us staying up under Jolley in 2018 and then a very solid display away at Crystal Palace the following season, most of it as a makeshift centre half.

Can't say I've once pined for his return but he doesn't deserve to be put in the same brackets as Damien Spencer et al.  Article sums it up, his time here just came too early in his career and with incredibly defensive orientated managers.  I always liked his graft and pleased he's doing well for himself.

My being there for his one league goal is something I'll bore the grandkids about.

Were Southend that poor. Without the 10 point deduction they would have been in the play-offs, remember them where we used to end up?

Technically, he clearly had ability because he wouldn't have been at the clubs he was at as a youngster if he didn't. When I think of Cardwell, I always think of his excellent performance in the centre of a flat back 8 at Palace. He got a contract extension shortly after that game and I wondered if Jolley was going to utilise his physical assets as a CB.

I got told that he suffered quite a bit mentally during his time here. It was planned for him to lead the line against Tranmere and they worked on it all week during training, but he pulled out at the last minute saying he just didn't feel well enough to play. After that, his days were pretty much numbered.

I was there at Northampton when he scored one of his 3 goals for us.

He was awarded a crucial if dubious penalty, which led to a vital 3 points away at Swindon, towards the tail end of the great escape season, under Jolley.

That and Palace away is all I recall from his time with us.

Seem to recall he was reported as exceptional in his younger days around youth team/ late teens scoring bucketloads and gaining alot of interest but maybe didn't age too well.
Never disliked him but never raved about him either.
