Despite him blocking me on Twitter after a “debate” he has my respect as someone who really cares as well as commentated on some great moments for the club and has felt the low points as much as we have.

He alongside Lloyd Griffith should be commended as they both called out the Alex May business which really helped start change.

Sad to hear but everything comes to an end.
Thank you John for being here, there and everywhere for us for all these years.

JT

What are your top 5 and bottom 5 events you have witnessed in your 40 years?

Any other points of interest to share?

I'm 42, so a voice I have known all my life.

Thanks and all the best JT, the voice of the Mariners for some truly great moments (and some not so great ones).

Not sure TBH mate.

JT called it out during commentary then Lloyd got going on Twitter not sure when the Telegraph got started, probably 2 days after everyone else.

Charley Ekberg and John Tondeur have covered town for all the years I have been going to town games and both very much part of my life, makes me feel very old.

Whenever I get chance to listen to the town commentary, it’s always a disappointment when I find out JT has a stand in. His voice like for many others is all I’ve known for years, and without him it will never be as good for me.I will miss his voice but I wish him all the best.
Thank you JT!

The voice of GTFC nearly every week for those that cannot get to the games  and to many that are at the games. Wonder how many miles he has traveled covering town ?

Say it isn't so!! So much love listening to JT he's been a firm fixture for me for decades. Gonna miss him to be honest 😢

He's has been the fantastic voice of GTFC for years.
When I worked overseas for a few years I couldn't wait for his commentary.
Hes also a nice bloke to boot.
Enjoy your retirement JT

I’ve grown up with JT and I do feel quite sad about this. What an absolute GTFC legend who has experienced the highs and lows alongside us. He’s the Voice of the Mariners and it won’t be the same without him.

All the best JT. Undoubtedly he will always be the voice of the Mariners to me.

I have only followed town for about 15 years.. and unquestionably the voice of all the best and worst moments over the years has been Johns! He will be badly missed.

He’s  been the the voice for  the Mariners for my entire 40 years of following Town.
Lots of memorable games listening to him but I reckon Reading away in the cup was my favourite.

JT is far the best.

Matt Dean and the others are too busy churning out statistics, rather than concentrating on the game.

Always been the voice of Town games for me and it will feel weird without him. Happy retirement John.

Heard on Radio Humberside yesterday it's the end of the season, no replacement announced as yet but hinted Matt Dean would do a few more games.

His voice is synonymous with town games and has been a stalwart but bowing out at the right time for me....the widely available video coverage now highlights his flaws....when watching with his commentary playing it sometimes can be like two different games.

Which girl private decided to put that caption showing Scunts 2 Town 0 in the middle of the TV piece on him…

Got related a great story once, where Charlie Ekberg would " Rent the plug in Telephones to national journos for a tenner a game. This was early 80's, but they were free to use 😂😂

Although I've been listening to JT on the radio for years, it was only the other week, when I watched the Town documentary on Amazon that I actually saw what he looked like! It's seems funny how you can have such a recognisable voice but no idea who they are. I've probably walked past him in the street on various occasions over the years...
