Honestly I think that's the best starting 11 we've had out for weeks.

For me the jury's still out on Andrews - glad to see combination of Clifton and Holohan starting

Would have had Wood in for Andrews after their respective performances last weekend but otherwise relatively happy. FGR have been forced into three changes today (2 ill, 1 injured) and are filling the bench with youth teamers so let's get flipping into em

I'm baffled by this after his display last week I thought he'd warrant to atleast be on the bench unless he's injured and I've missed something

Just sat watching their young gK warming up . He looks weak . If he’s playing today then we need to pepper him with shots early doors

I really hope all four sides of BP are bouncing this afternoon from the get go.
Let’s get behind the lads snd stick with them, even if it doesn't go exactly to plan.
FGR players played midweek and suffered a sucker punch at the death, which will have drained them.
That along with a long journey north, a depleted squad (admittedly we have a couple out too) and a partizan home crowd, who sticks with the team, gives us a bloody good chance of 3 points today 🤞 Up the bloody Mariners!

After a decent performance last week it would be very harsh for him not to be on the bench, so my guess is he must be unfit.

Was looking forward to watching Obikwu again. Anyway, I've had a mad month peppered with crappy luck which culminated in my having a crash on Friday. Don't worry lads, the road broke my fall. Today, my luck gonna turn starting with a convincing Town win. I can feel it in my bones... oh wait a minute. UTM!

Thanks mate. Lot of soft tissue damage I think. nowt broken. If i'd gone the other way, I'd have hit the kerb, which would have been painful. A good start.

HT is 1 - 0 up and not conceded. We're looking good at times but my only concern is Cartwright. I don't know if he has a knee injury or not but he doesn't seem as confident and assured as he has been.
Posted by: Chrisblor, March 2, 2024, 3:52pm; Reply: 41
Can't complain too much about a half time lead but we need more goals. Andrews is having another stinker and Cartwright seems to be rooted to his line, but the rest of them have all been having a good game.

Andrews is a passenger but apart from 1 mix up from us, they’ve offered nothing
Thompson looks copulated already

It’s not pretty but it’s what most asked for, win at all costs.
Got to feel for Tonduer who sounds absolutely devastated we’re winning at the break, but fair play to him for continuing in his quest to blame any Clifton mistake on a teammate!

We’re working hard . They’re playing for the gaffa . 442 seems to suit what we have and the players know their rolls . FG have some pace about them but in the final 3rd they’re woeful . Midfield is our problem Andrewsand Thompson look knackered Defence looks good today

2 extremely poor teams playing crap football, although worryingly, FG looked like they were getting their act together as we approached HT. Great finish after a complete mis-hit though and I'd be more than happy with another half of completely excrement football if the score stays the same! 😁

Good 1st half. We look good going forward,a great goal by Rodgers it was well worth sticking a quid on him at 16-1. We do look a little shakey when we're defending. Andrews looks like a lost child when we don't have the ball and is struggling with who he needs to pick up.
Anyone else think we look a little tired? Thompson in particular looks like he was running in treacle by the end of the game.
We need a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, OK I don't think I'll be able to relax until is 8-0 and even thats a maybe ;D

It's 5-3-2 / 3-5-2
Cartwright Clifton Mullarkey Tharme Rodgers Hume Holohan Thompson Andrews Rose Wilson

Andrews is just running around pointing. Doesn’t get close enough to tackle anyone and when he accidentally finds himself in that position he dangles a token leg. Has the heart of a gnat.
Posted by: GrimPol, March 2, 2024, 3:57pm; Reply: 50
Up to the goal Town had them on the rack. After they become erratic. Clearances go mostly to the opposition. Sometimes its better to kick out for them to throw in so we can regroup than for the opposition to come straight back. But we are ahead and hopefully, we kick off with the same eagerness. Good news Iron is 1 nil down :) :)

FGR look like we have this season. Show some decent footie but they don't get the ball in quick enough. Thank f***. We went off the boil to the end. Maybe a little too cautious. We don't win enough in the centre circle. Rose has been uncharacteristically off the pace. (everyone's allowed an off day). Wilson has shown some nice control. If we get another I fancy he'll get it.
Posted by: Tommy, March 2, 2024, 3:59pm; Reply: 52
Our midfield doesn't have much legs in it does it. I like what Thompson offers but I think having Andrews in midfield alongside him is dangerous as Andrews always looks like he's running in treacle. Andrews has been poor anyway I'd have him off soon he looks alright technically usually (although not so much today) but he just can't move, not mobile enough to get around the pitch. Clifton been very poor on the ball so far too. Struggling with basics.
FGR having lots of the ball but they don't look dangerous as yet.

Problem is Thompson isn't lasting 90 either. So Wood or Clifton in centre mid with Gav and Green seem the options.....

As Poojah said, the ramifications of this in terms of confidence are ace. Imagine winning the games in hand, and really annoying Doncaster. Again, we can imagine. Tense game, but we know how much confidence can change a seemingly ordinary team.

What a bunch of bedwetters we are. 3 points at home, Cartwright didn't have a save to make and a clean sheet. 4 points from a possible 6 and two games unbeaten. What's the fuss been all about?
In all seriousness I'm very relieved tonight. Couldn't care less if it wasn't a vintage display, as it was all about the result today.
Hopefully that'll take some of the pressure off now.

Thought all three centre backs had a good game but particularly Rodgers. Midfield was seriously lacking in energy although Thompson at least is a bit of a replacement for Conteh in terms of nicking the ball back. Andrews is absolutely abysmal.

I disagree, but I think I think I only saw 3 or 4 people actually was bold enough to object to it in writing. Votes seem to imply 10% didn't agree with a sacking.
I felt he was best placed to get results out of this squad and changing wouldn't necessarily help as they'd still have our squad, Today is a good start, and hopefully we can carry on putting points on the board.

Fgr have a very tough game against in form Wallsall next Saturday, while we have a chance to put another nail in the Sutton coffin.
Given our recent away performances it is entirely possible that we get a draw on Tuesday and at least a point on Saturday and suddenly we might be at least 8 points ahead of the veggies.

Oddly enough, I didn't think that Andrews was too bad today. Did one or two decent things and kept going until the end. Holohan was terrible, barely able to control the ball and miles away from their players most of the time. He did at least battle, just like the rest of them.
The number of times we lost possession in midfield (generally by punting it into touch) when we should have been breaking was shocking and I don't think I've ever seen a game where many basic clearances were fluffed and kicked straight to the opposition. It was almost comical at times.
Not complaining about three points, however!

We got away with it today because FGR are very poor, but we simply cannot carry two midfielders giving the ball away that consistently against better sides. It's the biggest issue in the team imo now that we seem to have sorted the defence out and stopped leaking goals for fun.

Gone from looking like the strongest part of the squad at the start of the season to the weakest. Hopefully Thompson stays fit and surely worth giving Evan a go.
