A much more solid line up than last week in defence and midfield. Great to see Arthur back too. He keeps the ball well and rarely loses it, hopefully get some support going forward from Smith but should shore up that side no end.

Would have thought Chas would have started ahead of Eisa considering they’re respective impacts last week.

That said let’s see what happens.

Mullarkey probs makes the squad ahead of Glennon as he can cover CB as well as FB with the new CB out injured.

I'd prefer vernam over gnahoua but he is probably being eased back with his injury record

Thompson screwed up.  Possibility of a  Accrington break.  Not on your Nellie.  He got back and hassled and harried until he won the ball then a free kick.  That's what we like to see.

I hope Hume is just a bit rusty because he's not played for a while, because that was a shocking half. Don't think he found a town player once.

Based on him continually giving the ball away and getting caught out of possession. I dunno what you lot think a message board is for if you're so offended about other posters having opinions on how players are performing. On that subject Thompson looks class and Smith looks a marked upgrade on Mullarkey. Am I allowed to also hold those opinions or do I have to embody a professional footballer before I'm allowed to comment?
Posted by: Brummie Codfather, February 3, 2024, 3:54pm; Reply: 71
Just by the fact we’ve not conceded for every ball down the left means Hume is an upgrade on Glennon, even if his passing is off.

Thompson looks a gem of a find, generally look more experienced and a better side with this line up.

On paper it's a good score at half time, but it feels like a very un-Artell type performance - much more like a Hurst-esque game.

Impressed with Thompson today, but there is an improvement all round from last week.

FAR better corner delivery from Hume, actually getting well past the first line of defence.

Perhaps still giving the ball away when trying to dribble through, when passes would be better.

Let's hope they go on to a victory at last !

Why? Him coming on for 1 player might change 3 different roles at set pieces. Just because he's taking Thompsons spot on the pitch, doesn't mean he's doing all the same roles as him as needs to be able to communicate the changes

I think we should be winning that game in all honesty. It's progress that we have a clean sheet

All debutants good with Thompson the puck. Deserved to win , decent show utm

Maintains our 7 point cushion after a potentially difficult away fixture.

Now let’s see if we can get something out of Stockport next weekend.

Good performance given the context of what happened in January!

My main worry ahead of the game was us looking rudderless like we did last week against Tranmere. That would've been concerning.

Not a worry in the end — think the new players helped for sure.

Tricky away day, really. Accrington might not be up there but they have a decent home record and a wily manager. This feels like the ship has been steadied a bit.

Just need to go and build on this in our next match... which is a nice and easy one!!

Also, just noticed... we haven't conceded an away goal since Boxing Day! That's 225 minutes and counting  :P

16 shots to their 5, think we were the better team really, clean sheet wj give them a boost

Came away more impressed than I thought I would .

Should really have won , impressed with the right back , looks a no nonsense type who will kick someone on the stand if required . Thompson looks very good . Tbf all the rest had relatively good games so fair play last week they deserved a battering this week they deserve praise .

Decent performance against a good, well drilled Accrington side but a game we should and would have won but for some poor finishing.
Much, much better with three very positive looking acquisitions.
Keep that level of performance up and we'll have no more worries over the "R" word.

First clean sheet in ages, think that shows where the real problems were. Something good to build on and well done to Artell for sorting out the porous defence.

Given recent results a clean sheet is as good as a win for me today. A step in the right direction.

A good day for us. Can't see that lineup chucking away 2 goal leads, which is just what FGR did.
3-3 draw for them and Donny scoring with the last kick of the game means no one below us gained on us.
Get the new players up to speed and Thompson lasting 90 mins and we will be up for anyone.

Fair summary Rich and I agree, we needed something out of that and the new lads showed great willing.

Our much better goal-difference is always worth an extra point.

Excellent effort by all today, unlucky not to get all three points

A good step in the right direction a clean sheet.

Just got to be a bit more precise in front of goal and we will move up the league.

Mid table end of season then find that scorer who will takes us near the right end of the table.

Happy with new signings

That was more like it - with a bit of a nod to PH pragmatism - on another day we win. UTM

Clean sheet!! So relieved. Was convinced we were going down before today. Think we have a chance now it looks like we might have a defence. Just praying we will be lucky with injuries.

I can’t see Donny , Forest Green or Sutton finishing above the team I saw today . Obviously injuries may continue to play a part but we now have hope

That pass from Green halfway through the 2nd half ❤️

I think we already have him Pete - his name is Danny Rose.

Managed to catch the last 25mins of the game and we seemed to be dominating. Clean sheet is a bonus. Utm

Got to be happy with a clean sheet away from home, and with a bit more composure, which comes with confidence, we nick a win there.

All the stats in our favour again, which has been the case in many games this season.

Good results in the other games at the bottom end too, so not a bad day all round.

Was still applauding that when he fluffed a 2 yard pass to Eisa and kicked it out of play. Did well for the most part though. Not sure that new fella will play the full 90 too often so hopefully he can step up when needed

Really pleased I made the effort to go as it was so much better than last week. Thompson was excellent as I thought Hume was. Hopefully we’ll be able to get at least a draw now against Stockport……

How many town fans there today?
Posted by: Limerick Mariner, February 3, 2024, 6:26pm; Reply: 156
668 in a crowd of 2,745, good noise especially second half.

I see that as a slightly under-par town following, yet how many away teams have managed that at BP? Maybe Mansfield and Notts County? That shows how mad our average away following is. I should join them one day - I don’t do anywhere enough away games.

Decent result today, made far, far better by Sutton letting that late equaliser in, and FGR squandering their lead too.

If we were doing well in the league, that would comfortably be over a thousand I reckon.

Some were singing ‘we’re excrement and we know we are’ much to the annoyance of some others but I think it shows where we are at with a little less normal away support. A couple of good results and things will be back to normal…..

I might be mistaken, but just before half time I'm sure it was a town fan who threw the ball straight to the opposition for a throw in when our defence were not ready. It nearly gave them a chance. Did anyone else see that? Luckily no damage done 🙂

No doubt about that. And it’s only below par our usual 900-1000+ to Greater Manchester. Stockport only brought 750 to BP last season when challenging and Tranmere had 400 at BP last week.
