The January window is always tricky. The players made available are for the most part out of favour at their clubs and in the end there's always a reliance on their clubs bringing players in to release them from their squads.
Looking at the players who have come in, and that's six in total, none have come with a poor reputation and supporters have been on the whole complimentary. And that as we have seen over the years sits with some level of credence.
We can all agree the defence situation was the most important, that seems to have been addressed adequately with a light warning on those players needing to get used to each other as well as not having played much lately. So bedding in is still a concern.
On top of that a midfielder with a bit of bite and presence with some injury concerns but hopefully we will get something from him.
We are still unlikely to set the world alight but I think we'll all take a comfortable drama free rest of the season and see what the summer brings.
My hopes for Town is that we get to a position where we don't need to replace 7-8 players each season but have a developing squad which stays together and gives some stability and consistency to the squad. Promotion from this league as the likes of Bradford and Mansfield can attest to isn't an easy task and at times some supporters get ahead of themselves a touch and then voice their distain as their own expectations aren't met. We need to become a football league club again before we can demand continued success and if we get another promotion that should come with some level of ability to compete.
Let's see what the rest of the season brings and hopefully a couple of the new players will become fans favourites and give us something to sing about

Need to see the new guys play first before any of us can know . While some good career history there all have been out of favour laterlly so it’s wait and see for me . Still concerned we only have one senior player in club capable of playing number 9 role . Ironic that the position we have least cover in has been the one thing that’s worked so far this season but can’t expect luck to last forever on that.

I basically agree with this.

Unlike previous windows we've secured players who are experienced but not old. We've shipped out players we all know would have gone in the summer and on paper we have the players to solve the defensive maladies (or should that be mularkies?) I think if you'd offer me this at the start (bar Conteh) I'd have been reasonably happy and lets be frank we couldn't do anything about Conteh.

I'm content. We needed better full backs and a new option in centre mid and we've got that - they're all experienced in playing higher too.

Attacking wise we are more than ok, as demonstrated against Notts.

Just need Pyke and Arthur to get fit as i really thought they both shone in those first few games under Artell.

I'm happy overall but was hoping for another centre back.

Ultimately this was a functional window. A year ago, I think we were all a little bit disappointed that we hadn’t signed that elusive striker who might fire us into the play-offs (though George Lloyd was better than most, myself included, expected), but the reality is we’re not there now. As depressing as it is, this season isn’t about looking forward but simply about avoiding relegation.

Let’s get to the shore and then we can do the post-mortem of this season in the summer.

How I felt once a right back was brought in at the dying minutes.

On paper it looks like we have done pretty good business. Fingers crossed that it works on grass.

Yeah I'm happy previously under Hurst we've never had to really worry about defensive positions most transfer markets under him its been mainly wide and attacking players as defensively we've been sound its scoring goals that's usually been the problem.

Artell has inherited a Hurst squad which for the first time its's not been going forward that's the problem its leaking goals which goes to show hurst got it wrong when he was at the helm and artell had to address it this window which is positive.

Yes happy we seem to have addressed the defensive problems.
Not sure I share your confidence attacking wise. Not many teams will be playing rush goalie against us like Notts did

I'm pleased with the signings and I am convinced DA will get the right players in to give us the long awaited success we deserve.

We've scored 41 goals so far this season. We only scored 49 in the whole of last season, but we finished 11th, so it's certainly the defence that has let us down this season up to now. Orient won the league with 61 goals for, to put it in perspective.

If we can keep the goals out at our end, we will move up the table because we have a goal or two in us. We really should have nicked one today to be honest and had much better chances than Accrington did.

I see we have signed players in the window from Portsmouth,  Blackpool, Cheltenham , Coventry and Hull. Not a bad haul when you consider "players will not move to Grimsby" from down south, from the west, from big cities, from nice places to live, for the nightlife, for the travelling and all the other things people say every window.

As regards the quality it will be fascinating to see the impact they have over the next few weeks as often it is just part of a team that needs improving to bring out the best of the rest.

Priority one was getting in capable full backs and it seems that has been achieved. It could be that the centre  backs might perform better if less exposed from the flanks as it appears that Rodgers and Maher had better games yesterday and of course we have brought in reinforcement in that position too.

By all accounts Thompson is a great acquisition and with existing midfield players we have a few options there and out wide.

I still would have liked another striker, but as has been pointed out elsewhere, we have scored over forty goals already this season so we do have a few players capable of a goal or two.

We just need to string a few results together, particularly against the bottom clubs we face in the coming weeks. No reason why we shouldn’t pull well clear of the drop zone fairly quickly .

Good point but not sure that  Accrington could have signed their excellent Man Utd. loanee keeper if they were on the East coast.

Yeah I think the backstory was he was a semi town fan and went to games as a kid because his grandparents are from here or something like that , sometimes the location actually works in our favour .... sometimes not -isn't Michael 'Lears' Leary a  town fan and that's why he came here I think a few years ago ?

Suprised that Billy Waters hasn't ever played for Town as his family are from the area and big Town fans .

We have young Harvey in goal now aswell
