Not had a thread on our new signing and I know next to nothing about him.
Hear he,s got a long throw, but never played for blackpool. What sort of player have we got ? Must have some assets as we were willing to pay a fee for him

Centre half that can play right back aswell. Good on the ball, got a bit of pace about him aswell which is well needed.

He used to be called Doug The Arm but he decided to subtly change his name so it wasn’t a giveaway.

Is it Tharme like Nunny Farm or Tharme like someone from ‘ull asking what time it is?

There was an interview with him on the club YouTube channel last week. I thought he came across really well.

I saw a stat on Twitter when he signed which was posted by some kind of analyst that Tharme only had a passing success rate of about 50%, if that's accurate then that's not very good regardless of these are "progressive" passes or not.

Hopefully it is innacurate as we do need a ball player in defence I feel to enable us to play the Artell way

Didn't he play alongside Harvey Rodgers at Accrington?

Bloody hell, give him a chance, he hasn't even played for us yet!

Yeah I saw the same thing, I watched him play for Blackpool against Burton in the tinpot trophy a week before he signed and he was pretty comfortable against what was a essentially a first Burton 11, only watching it because my Liverpool vs Fulham stream somehow ended up on that. I was shocked to see that he'd only made like 6 appearances for them as I thought it was a bit of a coup for us.

Yep and a longer one pre Harrogate. Totally agree he really does.

Hopefully he will do the same on the pitch.

And Rodgers was apparently the better of the two

I can't remember where I read it now, but it stuck in my mind -  don't take his nice as pie on media or something, he's more like Doug the Thug out on the pitch! lol I guess that mean's he's not afraid to get stuck in.

I doubt he's the first player to drop an 'E' either......👀

That's probably twice as good as our current defenders passing ability 😁

Nobody is writing him off, we are just quoting what we have seen and heard! What's the point in posting on a forum if we aren't allowed to do that?

You are correct in that he was the lesser of the two stalwarts who oversaw Accrington’s relegated defence.

Southport fans raved about him ,sounds like he was too good for non league but struggled with the step up to league 1 . A no nonsense CB who lacks pace with a loopy long throw going off Blackpool fans summary ; they seem to think he needs games at league 2 and maybe is good enough for this level - lets hope so .
Posted by: diehardmariner, January 23, 2024, 9:47am; Reply: 19
So he's quick and slow, good and excrement on the ball, probably dominant and dominated in the air too?  ;D

Gonna be a wait and see one here. Not getting excited because Southport raved about him or worried that Blackpool didn't seem to think he was up to it. Different levels.

Eh!!

I never said anything about that just he played alongside Rodgers, but feel free to twist it and put your own spin on it.

Accrington v Mariners

Hoping to be there…..

Yep. Was looking straight at him at the time. Plenty of the other players were visibly ecstatic which was great.

We have a long way to go but all is not lost. You cannot say those players weren't playing for the manager.

Was not sure about him, but think he will be fine.

We don’t have to be spectacular for the rest of this season. Just battle hard and pick up points…

One thing I’ve noticed about Tharme is that when he plays a long ball forward it’s usually pretty accurate and well weighted.
The ball doesn’t just run out of play it puts pressure on the defender and gives players likes Rose and Wilson an opportunity to put them under even more.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see a few goals coming from this before the end of the season.

I thought Saturday he had a really good game but it was very much a defenders performance.  Solid, got in the way of everything, kept it simple and nothing got past him.

I'm more than likely expecting him to be some sort of libero type defender simply because Artell set out his early stall to play out from the back and have players stepping forward with possession.  From his first few games that clearly wasn't his game and it still feels an odd signing in that sense.

But neither Rodgers or Maher are what I would call a traditional defender and going with the current back 3 neither is Mullarkey.  Waterfall has gone so this might be Artell bringing in the solid type now with a view to bringing in better footballers alongside him in the future.   The here and now is that we need to just keep teams out, which Tharme looks to be helping with.  But moving forward we need to have better players alongside him and indeed in front of him.  As good as the defensive performance was, aided by FGR's toothlessness from 30 yards out, we cannot get away with just soaking up pressure against the better sides.  We'll need to be able to hurt them.

I think that like most L2 players, he is limited in what he can do, but what he does he does it well. Our change of formation and tactics suit him and he is thriving atm.

See Mark Lever, Justin Whittle and Rob Jones. Above L2 as well.  All made a little go a long way. They squeezed every drop out of their careers.

Taken the spot well and deserves the praiseche is receiving.

Nothing flash -- does the easy stuff well and loads of vocals to encourage the others.

Could easily become a huge fan favourite !

He is becoming a colossus in that backline. Vocal, organised and very no nonsense.

Club like to interview him as he comes across personable, looks the part and speaks well. If he keeps this up and can see a future captain in him.

Tharme-Thompson-Rose looks a decent spine to build the team around for next season .

Not sure if there is a chance of keeping Hume but he would be another one to retain if we can,he  looks tòo good for league 2.

I would hope we try hard to convince Wilson to stay and Obikwu back on loan as that would leave the need for strikers lower priority . I'm not sure we can do better ,unless we 100% can we need to  make them happy and retain .
