My dad swears on his life that he watched a game at BP of Town versus Kilmarnock. Anyone else remember this or should I get him a dementia assessment?

I may have been at that pre season friendly, with Town winning 3-0, maybe 1979 ish?

Saw Town play St. Mirren in July, 2001 at BP during pre-season. And staying with “foreign” opposition, Willem II played a friendly v Town in 2004. Can’t help with Kilmarnock or Hibs though…

I remember us playing Aberdeen in the late 90s at home , we also did a pre season tour of Scotland around the same time.

I usually stay clear of pre season, but do remember us playing (and beating) Hesrts 2-0, and I reckon it was 1997. We also beat Aberdeen 2-1, I reckon. I do remember Jack Lester getting hauled off by Buckley in that one really early as he slapped one of their defenders across the face! I think the ref told him to get him off or else it’s a red - wouldn’t get that treatment nowadays, even in pre season.

We also played Dundee when Ivano was their manager.

I remember a good run of results against Scottish teams in pre-season for the 97/98 promotion so you would be right about in being 1997.

I will always remember being bottled over the head from behind when we played Dundee some years back, turned out to be a good set of lads and had a few beers with them up Cleethorpes later on.

Remember watching us play against Queen of the South in the late sixties, can’t remember the score but we lost the game.

Although not Scottish I also remember us playing Japan in 1971 in McMenemy’s first season and winning 7-2.

1952/53     Tuesday            24/03/1954       Grimsby Town    Falkirk
1956/57     Monday             04/03/1957     Grimsby Town     Akademisk Boldklub
1968/69     Wednesday      23/04/1969     Grimsby Town     Phonix Lubeck
1958/59     Thursday             16/08/1958       Grimsby Town     Prague Dynamo
1986/87     Saturday             21/02/1987     Grimsby Town     Brondby I.F.

The Falkirk game was arranged because Bill Shankey brother Bob was the manager of Falkirk at the time, Bill Shankley played in this game.

Towns team was 1. Williams 2. Freeburn 3. Galbraith 4. Scotson 5. MacMilan 6. Johnston 7. Lloyd 8. Shankley 9. Cairns 10. Hernon 11. Maddison

Also we played Celtic seen the programme but have any details re the game.

Also a few of the Brondby team went on to play in the Premiership, do not have the programme to hand to list the players.

19/02/1949, lost 1-0.  First visit of Celtic since 1900 apparently.

Thought it was late forties, I tried to buy the programme at a auction, it was a bit tatty, went for more I could afford at the time.

Not listed in the database which contains all competitive matches Town have played, so it must have been a friendly.

Live in Paisley, would've loved to see St. Mirren play Town. Would be an interesting game though if they were both playing in home colours lol!

Live in tiny little village in N.Bucks , one of my drinking partners in the local is a massive St. Mirren fan. He's currently loving life , but often swap tales of woe over a couple of Riojas
