Popped into the ticket office at lunchtime to get a ticket. Approximately 200 sold. It’s £5 and £3 concessions.

Weather forecast dry from 6.30 and temp 5 degrees so hopefully a few more may come along, although the 7.00 start may make it hard for some to make it.

I'm thinking Forest will gift us a goal with their playing out from the back.  They are not very good at it.

We are marking space not men so they are able to find a pass. Badly need a mid fielder to knit a few passes together and keep some possession in their half.

ht 0-0. Really good half by Town. More than matched them. Game of a few half chances.
Looks like it's going to plan.  Clements our best attacking player, but they are being very disciplined and resolute in defence , closing down and tackling. Certainly it doesn't look like a level 1 Academy team v. a level 3 team

Been an entertaining game of football so far. Anyone know if Artell is in the audience? Know he's one for the up and comings so wonder if he's interested how the youth team are doing (no I'm not saying snatch one of them for the first team!!).

Bring Hunty on, he only looks about 12.

Notts, as expected, have a few more physically and tactically mature players. They are controlling midfield and have several who can keep possession and seek options. That said, we have had some close calls on through balls to Gardener and they are taking chances with their playing out.

We have found the press tiring because midfielders have not been marking closely enough so their backs have been playing through the lines. We may have to take a few risks later on and get more support in their half. We are so deep, I thought Waterfall was playing.

Have to be careful, I think we have two on yellows.

Forest pass the ball around well but don't do anything with it. They don't take any risks..
Town defended well, kept us shape, but resorted to too many long balls giving it back.

What a bunch of heroes! Limited them to a handful of chances and stole one at the finish. And what a finish. Huge credit to Giles for the coolness to lay the ball off.

Their left sided midfielder will go far. Future loan perhaps? Also their big centre half strolling into midfield.

My MOM was Gardener for the thankless running all game. He was the reason Woods was able to set up a sponge defence.

A fantastic result for the lads, Woodsy and his staff and the Youth set up more generally. As we pick up a lot of lads released from other academies etc seeing our team doing well in the cup will make the released lads more aware of us and ‘giant’ killings always catch the eye.

Well done everyone.

Thoroughly enjoyed that, interesting game with a great finale and a bit of poetic justice for their no. 9 haha. He kicked a drinks bottle (?) At woods as he got sent off and forest had to apologise to him lol, what a little idiot

Magnificent performance. Out thought off the pitch - well done Callum n Neil for their excellent game plan, which was superbly executed by a hugely disciplined team. On the pitch Forest were out fought  out run n out tackled.

Henry brown, clements, the keeper n Gardner all stood out, whilst the introduction of Grayson was crucial. Whens the next round??

Great performance and result for all the right football and character reasons.

Forest are not just a PL Youth set-up.  In 2022 they only lost
In the final to Man United at Old Trafford.  They have a pedigree and academy of the highest quality.

A record 67,492 attendance.  Massive home support.

Arguably, Forest only lost because they had a brilliant player called Garnacho who scored 2 goals. Although unlikely either were a brilliant bicycle kick.

……….

Town can take great confidence from this scalp.  With a good draw could go further in the cup.

Idly looking at previous results, last season Cambridge were extremely close to the semi-finals.  They only lost 3-2 away to Arsenal in the quarters finals.

Arsenal scored the winner in the 93 rd minute and ended up reaching the final.  Cambridge took a  very big following with 2,700 fans.

I imagine that they were on a similar level to us or only slightly better.

I think we lost 1-0 away to Newcastle in the FA Youth Cup.  A great result for us.  sIf we had won we would have played Man United away.  The year before Newcastle had a free-scoring striker called Andy Carroll.

I went to that game at OT. Forest had 7000 fans there. It was only £1 admission too. Rude not to go. I only knew about it as I'd seen Brentford there a few weeks before and they plugged the game in their programme.

What a great achievement last night. Maybe even better than it looks.

It is worth repeating that the academy set-up at Forest is as good or better than most in the PL.

They would probably have won the FA Youth Cup in 2022 had a brilliant player called Garnacho not scored 2 goals in the final.

Man United had a genius (he of the overhead goal recently and great goal for them last week away in the CL).

United had home advantage and a near capacity crowd at Old Trafford supporting them.

In summary, we beat a team and club at the very top. One with far more coaching and development resources than we could ever dream about. They also trawl for the best young players from all over the country.

Ironic then that the difference in resources was illustrated last night with the home fans all in the Main Stand - built in 1901 or 1903.

Do we have a team sheet for the Forest lineup last night? All I can find is references to their game in the “BSM Trophy” (nope, I had no idea it had a sponsor now, either). Bristol Street Motors, another shíthouse company to avoid.

Aye they've sacked off Papa Johns, all done very quietly
Posted by: diehardmariner, December 7, 2023, 9:15am; Reply: 87
Papa John's opted against renewing.  Previous deal was worth £1million a season.

I'm no marketing expert and I do get the exposure level is much higher in the final of this competition, unfortunately (just shy of 80,000 fans in attendance at last seasons final, 85,000 in 2019, 74,000 in 2017).  But that seems crazy money to me for a competition that most people don't give a excrement about, those that do are firmly opposed to. To the point I probably would steer clear of Bristol Street Motors just because they sponsor this excrement.
