Sure Hurst said Glennon was out injured in one of his last interviews, so maybe just a case of coming back from injury, rather than coming in from the cold?

Not that it matters. Fresh start today.

You'd have thought that the young striker (Cameron?) Might have got a place in the bench just for the experience for him

The youth team played Mansfield yesterday and drew 2-2 so presumably (and correctly imo) the caretaker managers probably viewed him playing that was more beneficial than travelling down to Slough to maybe if he's lucky get a very short cameo appearance at best.

I think the Chairman’s remarks on RH earlier can put to bed the notion that Cowley is done and dusted and to be announced next week.

12 minutes in and we've played more successful passes already than we do for 90mins in previous games. Admittedly most 5-10 yard passes but it's good to see.

We're playing away against a team two leagues below us. Portsmouth have just played away at Chesterfield, a team two leagues below them, and lost 1-0. Last season we knocked 5 teams from one, two and three leagues above us out of this competition. There's absolutely no way we should be taking this match for granted and viewing the opposition as beneath us simply because they're semi-pro.

Was hoping Hurst leaving would have mixed the midfield up. Instead we're persisting with a midfield trio (Clifton, Andrews and Conteh) we already know doesn't work because aside from Conteh, who is still sitting deep, there's no quality on the ball from Clifton or Andrews, they're both just effort players who can't pick a pass.

The reason this looks like a repeat is because it's a Hurst style team picked by two Hurst employees. All our technical players are warming the bench.

Hurst did his usual and coached the football out of Conteh. We don't help the lad by playing him deep instead of higher up the pitch

Teams have figured out Conteh is the only player in our midfield who actually does anything so opposition managers have caught wind of this and he's now regularly pressured by multiple opponents. Why would you worry about Andrews or Clifton - neither of them are any good in central midfield and I have absolutely no idea why we still try to persist with the idea that Clifton can play centrally. He's only any good as a wide midfielder.

It needs to get out of bottom gear and move faster.

Use the superior skill to go past a man.

Once near Slough box they have no idea what to do.

Not sure I’d blame Cartwright for the goal. The player manager struck it well and moved the ball. Defensive wall at fault. The goalscorer hardly ever scores, but h has been saving that one up for us….

Still 45/to go, I predicted 1-1 draw and might still be right…..

Not sure superior skill is true. That level is basically the top level of semi pro and many of those players are capable of being professional but don't want to give up their other careers.

Not that tier 4 losing to tier 6 is ok.

This slow build up playing out from the back is not working. Again we lose possession in our defensive third , concede a throw and soft free kick and they have a free shot at goal.

Khans been utter excrement this season so lets not pretend he’s the messiah. But intercourse me I’m embarrassed to be here watching that display

He showed last season he was a good player and has played 231 minutes so far this season (starting just 2 matches, one of which we won and the other we were drawing when he was subbed off and went on to then lose) while dealing with injuries and trying to get back to match fitness. Nonsense to suggest he's now utter excrement because he's not had a proper run in the team this season yet.

I think we can win it in the second half, hopefully our fitness should give us the edge.   But a win does not justify this first half performance.  UTM.

I said last week that we were in a relegation battle, that 22nd was acceptable and anyone thinking a play off charge needed their heads examined. We’ve got national league North level goalkeepers and nobody who can actually put the ball in the net. But 12 midfielders who all do the same thing. Recruitment has been a shambles. We’re 50/50 to stay up at best.

It’s not easy playing on artificial grass.

Most of your game changes. Your first touch, your passing, your movement.

What doesn’t or shouldn’t change is not giving a töss about your colleagues, fans or managers. You should still be capable of marking opponents whether you’re playing on grass, astroturf or those fückin plastic ball pits they had at Wacky Warehouse.

Just seen the Aldershot highlights.  Some of their goals were quality.  They had runners finding space, defence splitting passes and half chances converted.  Town need someone to take responsibility.   At the very least we need someone on for set pieces. And a Mani character who just flipping throws himself at it.

These results always crop up in the FA Cup; we did it ourselves loads of times last season. But taken in the wider context, this is unforgivably bad.

He's a goalscoring poacher who for some reason we've decided needs to play out wide rather than through the middle where he actually offers a threat. If we had some technically adept players (*cough* Hunt & Glennon *cough*) sat there feeding balls into the box from the start he may have had more impact.

Got a tiny bit better in a couple of aspects. The goal showed how, if you can manage to do simple, positive things well, you cause problems. Overall though - absolutely fu**ing awful IMO.

Movement
Crossing
Hoofing
Decision making
Giving away stupid free kicks
Not putting pressure on the ball
Hitting hopeful diagonal cross field punts
Zero creativity
Poor passing
Making nothing of a fitness advantage
Minimal impact from the subs
No passion or urgency on show on the pitch/sidelines

I could go on…

Terrible. Just f***ing terrible. We look at least half a dozen players short of holding our own in the league. At least.
I wouldn’t be persevering with this caretaker set up any longer than is absolutely necessary.

What's worrying is that something has gone seriously wrong in the last few months but nobody is saying what. The sample size for this is a handful of games at the start of this season where he was admittedly absolute junk. Last season shows that he can defend at a decent enough level to play in league two (and potentially higher based on some of his FA cup performances against better placed sides), he just needs coaching back up to that level and played on the same side as a winger who'll do their job tracking back (i.e. not Eisa).

Hmm.

I know it wasn't hard to be better in the second half, but we were much better. We didn't have any scares at the back, kept them largely at arms length, and scored a decent goal to get an equaliser and another shot at winning.

A cliche I know, but that was a massive banana skin game on an artificial pitch after a pretty tumultuous week.

I expected Slough to carry on as they did in the first half, but we negated them mostly and actually strung one or two moves together.

We are still in the cup, and that is all that matters right now.

I'm no less concerned after this second half

I'm more worried about Conteh than Michee ,(we know his limitations)  Conteh looks a completely different player than early season -- he's not looking after the ball ,confidence shot ?

Cartwright did well , think he deserves a run now and I believe  we should put that shakey start to one side . Seems a good keeper to me .

Big game on Saturday now , we really need to back the lads -- I'm starting to think we are relegation candidates and the only way to avoid it is by backing them and getting lots of points at home .

Concerned , very concerned -- let's hope for news on the new gaffer soon

So are you, and all the others who quoted me, saying that Efete had a good game then? He was shite from start to finish

Think he put in the cross for Rose to score the equaliser. He did seem to struggle with finding his feet. Probably wrong footwear.

But we are still in the cup…..

The amateurs expected to lose but tried to win. The professionals expected to lose and didn't give a fck if they did.

Rubbish, and they were not amateurs, just semi professional

The sample size for this is a handful of games at the start of this season where he was admittedly absolute junk. Last season shows that he can defend at a decent enough level to play in league two (and potentially higher based on some of his FA cup performances against better placed sides), he just needs coaching back up to that level and played on the same side as a winger who'll do their job tracking back (i.e. not Eisa).

Thought Glennon looked lively when he came on. Don’t know what the problem has been with him but last 20 minutes or so he was ok

Did I say that? No I didn't.

And anyway you didn't say he was playing shite, you said he, the individual, was a massive shite.

If you can't see the difference I can't help you

It’s not though . It was awful from the keeper . You could haput the ball anywhere 2 yards inside that post and he wasn’t getting there . Dreadful

A hole

I'm baffled people are blaming Cartwright in any way for their goal ,  on here/other SM

He organised the wall - it's debatable whether they jumped well enough

Job done

He covered 'his side'

Job done

It would have been a worldy save with extremely good foot movement to get that far over . Not many keepers would have got there .

If he stood in the middle of the goal , Davies would just have used the space to probably score in the corner Cartwright was in -- and he would have got slated for that ; Davies was/is a very good free kick taker .

Harvey Cartwright has done really well the last 2 games it's probably the only positive .

This may be really left field, but why give the free kick taker a massive hole to aim at, especially now as it seems every Tom, male private and Harry can hit a top corner fairly regularly.  Give yourself a better chance to save the kick by standing in the centre of the goal.

I always thought when I played (i was a keeper at a decentish level  ) to not bother with a wall if it was over 30 yards (ish) out and just to stand relatively central , like you say so I don't completely disagree as you have the time the ball is travelling vs the benefits/negative of having a wall (the obvious visual impairment of the wall /bodies ) interestingly most the times I did it the oppo didn't score , sometimes they would put a wall in themselves, not sure if teams still do that ?

But that wall here didn't really jump for us did it , was pretty poor for me -- would Cartwright have saved it without a wall , stood in the middle ?

Maybe ,but it was what 25 yards out ? If he didn't have one and Davies top bagged it , he would have got absolutely battered for not having a wall wouldn't he .

You are probably right, however my point is that if he had been stood in the middle of the goal, he would have had a lesser distance to cover to make the save.  It's just an observation that to me, makes a little sense.

Fair mate .

I do think Cartwright has done really well the last 2 games in general though -- he looks the polar opposite in style to Eastwood who has a somewhat unorthodox technique .

Hoping he can keep it up on Saturday , a good characteristic to come back from a dodgy start - he's almost a complete contrast to the rest of our team .

Not criticising Cartwright at all, it's just an general observation on the use of walls.  Another thought was if the wall is central, it will probably have 4 or 5 players in it, reducing the number of players we have available to mark the opposition players.
