All this talk of Paul Hurst, and who the next manager could be etc!!
We do have to get on with playing  football matches,
So are there many on here going / interested as its on a Sunday afternoon supporting the team?
Hopefully  put some confidence  in the players and trust, faith in the staff "Holding the fort".
Apologies for being blunt, to the point
See you there who's going.

I'm going.

I expect a win and a reaction from this group of players

I'll be there - I'm sure that the 500 Mariners supporters will get behind Ben, Shaun and the team.

What I expect is a big reaction from the players, a win with a decent score line and hopefully, we don't concede. A clean sheet would be nice, but this a cup final match for Slough so we'll have to wait and see.

For the ones that can not get there they normally show the goals as they go in.

About six games being played one is full match the goals from the others.

Another storm on the way so possible games postponed hopefully not ours.

Yes i will make the short journey to Slough, it like Grimsby gets slated a lot down here,  my mother ( maiden name Rowell) worked for the War Office in nearby Colnbrook during the war, and of course you have lovely Windsor nearby, Slough is a big & busy Town, very much like little India in the Town centre. It's an ok place & i think you will find that the 1500 of their fans you meet are decent football fans.
Up the Mariners.

Yep, myself and Mrs CummingsTacke will be in attendance. It's a short hop from home.

I'm hoping for a response and a positive attacking performance.

Looking at their website, they appear to have a plastic pitch so any storm may not be a factor as long as it drains well.

The ground is close to a residential area and it's Sunday so you may be able to park nearer than the railway station. I'm coming from directly north of Slough and will certainly try to get a space closer to the ground as I'll virtually drive past it before getting to the Town ctre.

If I remember right, Dave Moore was in charge and we played some great football and were unlucky to lose.

Second half we absolutely battered them. Keeper made some great saves and we missed some sitters. Was bloody freezing too

I bet there’s a few disgruntled tabloid copy editors who are annoyed by Vernam being injured for Sunday. Otherwise they could have gone for:

VERNHAM HOGGS LIMELIGHT IN SLOUGH SPANKING
It was a Great (Grimsby) day at the office for winger as his hat-trick helped The Mariners sail into the FA Cup Second Round.

What we need is strong leadership on the field, something that has been obviously lacking and in my opinion has shown in our results. Together with the defense not performing as expected, it seems to me that the omission of Waterfall from the side has had a big impact, both positional and as captain. I know there are those who would contest this saying he has slowed down yet there is little evidence of this as he has played so infrequently. There is no other obvious player in the side offering anything like the qualities needed. Also, I think that Green should be played in front of the defense to do the "ugly" work (break up the opposition play) and let our midfielders become more creative. Choosing players with known strengths for the positions played is also a big factor as some of the new signings have not shown the integration needed to strengthen the team but have operated as lone wolves and clearly are not as fit as they should be and have faded long before full time.

Wish I could go.  When I lived in High Wycombe , I did a day release in what was then Slough College which is now University of West London. The office certainly brought back memories.  My mate had a few games for Slough and I am sure Andrew Ridgely played for them at that time.

Does anyone know anything about Slough as a team? Are they the equivalent level to Sporting Bromsgrove from a few years back? Believe it’s a plastic pitch which might complicate things.

National League South, sat 21st and winless in 5 in the league. Beat Ebsfleet in the replay to be here. Scored 21 and conceded 26 in the league.

Slough on Sunday - it's a goooooood paper

some background
it's a sell out on Sunday. This is possibly their biggest game for a generation having been nomads for years.
They are one of the smallest clubs in conference south, average crowds under 1000 and a part time club in a sea of professional teams,
Scott Davies the player manager is still a very good player and very intelligent young coach (ex Aylesbury Grammar School). Some of you may remember him from when he scored a penalty against us at Aldershot and milked it to the full. Was destined for big things before his weaknesses took hold. takes a sublime free kick. Tells me the has no injuries and has a plan! very good battling side - a team whose sum is greater than their parts.
Aylesbury United have a big interest in Sunday's game. Scott is Aylesbury born and bred and he has a local legend,Jefferson Louis, as fitness coach. Jefferson is as fit as a flea and has had as many clubs as he has had birthdays!
Jeanmal Prosper may feature - was playing step 5 about 6 seasons ago until Ben Williams at AUFC spotted him. Made a transformational change to a struggling team and has kicked on since then, will enjoy seeing him again - the only right back I've seen who only rarely popped up at right back, so busy was he marauding elsewhere! his wife worked for my wife n they've just had their first baby
Tom McElroy may feature from the bench -ex AGS & Loughborough Uni, son of a surgeon.very young but very strong forward who has an eye for the goals and was a stand out player for Aylesbury.
Had a loan keeper from Arsenal but binned him after 3 days due to poor attitude. Lutrhra is completely different - young, but huge n v. competent.
Josh Jackman is your archetypal lower league defender and club captain. Been with them for years and a massive presence.
They've got  a couple of midfielders in Jackson n Lench who should possibly be playing higher, but are well paid n happy with their lot.Jackson in particular is a quality operator. Along with Scott it makes up a v. strong midfield.
George Alexander up front is on loan from our favourite hate club - Bromley. Also up front is nathan Minhas who's had a perpatetic career until 3 years ago. Seemed to then grasp the opportunity and scored 50+ goals in 2 seasons at a level below (step 3) for Beaconsfield

their ace in the pack is David Ogbonna, v.v. quick, skillful right winger . had played at step 4 for several years where he was the outstanding player for Hertford, but just seemed happy playing with his mates. He ripped Aylesbury, and a number of other Southern League clubs to shreds, last season. Somehow Scott managed to persuade him to go for it and he's prospered. there's some youtube videos of his extravagant pace n skills. He could easily rip Amos to shreds if he's on his game.really good player
I hope to be able to report more after our meal on Saturday night but mums the word till then!

Good shout for Agbonna who figures in these highlights. Pace and trickery but not a regular starter. Luthra in goal for this qualifier too.

Whatever anyone thinks of our position, or looks down their nose at theirs, this is the example of a tie that makes the FA Cup. (Before the big clubs whinge about fixture congestion and change it even more to suit themselves that is..)

A side struggling near the foot of League 2..not had a result for a while..manager sacked..going to a club with absolutely nothing to lose ..on a plastic pitch.

Our side really not much to gain..win comfortably and it’s ‘expected’..narrow win ‘frowned upon’…draw or defeat..’more pelters’ from support and media. Whereas Slough have everything to gain..

I think it’s going to be a test..if their plans don’t involve giving us an aggressive, fast paced start I’d be surprised…a few testing balls on the surface, physical contest, mixed with a bit of pace on the right. Ben and SP will need to get those selected for us ‘at it’ from the get go.

Think we’ll get through personally, but it’ll be tough, might be a hiccup along the way..

About a mile away from Arbour Park is Stoke Poges golf club, very good course.. think I’m right in saying they filmed a few James Bond scenes there when Sean Connery played Bond, and a fair few ‘celebs’ play there.

Lived there (Slough) for a few years late 90’s/early 2000’s..so making a trip back, bit too close to the ex wife for my liking but needs must..the boys need supporting. Just 🙏 we can get through. UTM

Is it wrong that I'd probably take a draw and a replay at this point?

I'm going as I've said and I expect the players to perform a hell of a lot better than they've shown for the last 2 months, I think they've been very fortunate to escape with so little criticism their way

If they are, as suggested, a mix between Man City, Barcelona a few years back and Real Madrid in the latter stages of the Champions League why are they in the bottom 4 of the NLS and not won in 5 games?

its simple for me, i fully expect Town to win by a couple and play a side giving Hunt Glennon, and probably Pike a game.
I am also certain Shaun and Ben have us ready and positive to gain a result.

I can't figure it out myself, so I must refer you to AI...or perhaps FI

(FI = forza ivano)

It’s always disappointing when someone repeats generic, superficial stuff that any Tom, male private, or Harry could come up with. What happened to inside sources? Try harder Forza.

He says that he has a VPN (Whatever that is) and wants to know how he can watch the game on Sunday? (angel)

Going to be interesting how the players do at what I  imagine will be a motivated Slough team . I can see some players wishing that a new manager comes in soon as to put his own stamp on the team and giving them a chance to get more minutes as opposed to Pearson / Davies taking the temporary reigns and possibly being affected by Hurst's tactics?.

Feeling sick at the thought of getting knocked out tomorrow. Not that I expect us to, but just having flashbacks to Kidderminster and Dagenham in recent years.

Swindon 0  Aldershot 6 after 52mins.  We can't play a weakened side 'cos' we can't take anything for granted.

If we compare Swindon v Aldershot it's a good job we are not playing Aldershot then      Barnsley 3 -  7th division Horsham 3

You won't be able to unless you use a VPN or are in the respective country (and then would advise against unless you have a card that doesn't put on exorbitant exchange rates). Probably have to sign up to some subscription service.

Be a case of looking for a dodgy link or using IPTV if you have a subscription, or listen to the radio on BBC online

My friend who has apps for sale and has one himself says it should just be linked onto your Grimsby Town link IF you bought it from him  ;)

That Swindon-Aldershot result will probably be used by both managers/coaches tomorrow in their pre-match team talk. We really could do with winning it for many reasons but confidence is needed and quickly.

No one will be taking this lightly .We beat teams above us in every round last year a few away from home .It's the FA Cup .Upsets happen .The plastic pitch is a big advantage to Slough .I hope we win ,I expect us to win .But Swindon fans felt the same at 3pm Saturday .Come on Town
Posted by: GrimPol, November 5, 2023, 8:47am; Reply: 69
Yep, myself and Mrs CummingsTacke will be in attendance. It's a short hop from home.

I'm hoping for a response and a positive attacking performance.

Looking at their website, they appear to have a plastic pitch so any storm may not be a factor as long as it drains well.

Yes its 3G. If you fall over you can get a mouthful of rubber pellets.
I hope Mariners have trained on Bradley all weather for this one. UTM

I still have a bald patch on my shin from burns sustained on a 3G pitch about 15 years ago. I didn’t even know I’d done it until I got in the shower afterwards. Then I knew.

The closest thing a man can experience to the pain of child birth, I would imagine.
