Honestly dont think Hursty can make a midfield setup to accomodate a ball passer like Hunt who requires a little more time to pick a pass. So we end up with Waterfall/Rodgers etc al bringing it out and trying long distance passing to somewhere in Roses proximity.
Be good to see Green impose himself on the game but i do wish we could keep the ball better in the middle.

It's good to see Wison & Holohan in the starting line up. I feared the worst for this match for them, given they were both subbed on Saturday

With Wilson, Holohan, Eisa and Rose on the pitch we’ve got 83% of our goals in the starting lineup. Not sure if those four have started at the same time this season, but if they have, it can’t have been frequently. 70+ minutes out of Wilson would be a positive too.

Agree completely - for all his limitations we have missed his energy and commitment - to stop the opposition playing through the midfield…

I wanna be sat in the porch of Hursty’s caravan in 10 years’ time; Vieux Carré in one hand, a Cohiba in the other, laughing with the guy about his Mark Robins moment that night at home to Colchester in Oct 23.

C’mon Town

Ps. Hope the sèx ban works. I want to see our players as frisky as an unneutered spaniel.

I'm guessing what it is, is not what he has done right, in training etc.  I'm sure if he had been tearing it up in training then he would make the first team squad.  Obviously PH and the backroom staff think he is not good enough for a first team place atm.  I really don't understand all this clamour for him to play, if he was good enough, he would be in, obviously atm he isn't.

Odd though, that we had him on loan and hurst practically chased him to sign him for what three years? Now he’s not good enough and can’t get near the first team. Something has gone off. It might be that it’s turned out he’s not up to it by hursts standards but then that’s worrying.

You could argue Clifton has shown just as little this season but walks into the squad unopposed.

Not saying Hunt has torn up trees but the whole situation feels very strange.

I’m not his dad. Hurst based his pre season on a midfield that included Hunt, a player who he made a big deal of fuss about signing on a long term deal, a player who ripped it up in his first spell. After 70 minutes of our second game at Notts County, he gets subbed and has only been seen once since in a league starting eleven only when Conteh was suspended.

If we were winning games then so be it but our midfield has been generally woeful and , more often than not, worse than our opponents. We’ve been crying out for a bit of quality.

And please don’t give me any excrement about Hunt making mistakes, we’re already coughing up enough goals through individual errors.

Personally, if Hurst stays, hunt may yet be less than half way through his 3 year contract but I just don't see him staying for the duration of it. Loaned out in January I would expect, gone in the summer. Certainly wouldn't have thought that way when we signed him but Hurst clearly doesnt trust him even on the bench nevermind the first team, for what is surely a must win game - speaks volumes.

Unless he's injured of course.

I hope Green’s nothing like Pele.

Pele was a shågger, which is why he was washed up at 31.

If Green can follow Doigy’s new fluidless, tantric diktat, he should still be playing well into his 40s.

This game has a Neil Woods Blue Square era feel too it. Zero atmosphere, calamitous opposition goalkeeper, conceding to a nice finish out of nowhere and a Town side bereft of any kind of game plan or discernible playing style.

30 minutes in, and so far this is not the performance to put the doubters’ minds at ease.

And does sacking him magically reverse the signing of Eastwood and get us a better goalkeeper? I just don't think that getting rid of Hurst somehow fixes our problems.

Well I’ll start praying for a miracle instead then because this has a look of relegation about it . We’ve had plenty of experience of this over the last few years so it’s not hard to recognise ffs

Making Colchester look like a really really good footballing side which is worrying.
Amos looks so far out his depth in L2 and not really a good football player.
Rodgers who looked a colussus at the start of the season seems a one trick pony with a 50-yard diagonal ball which has around a 2% accuracy ratio.
Less said about the keeper the better...

It is perfectly simple. The confidence has gone. Hurst has been saying for the last six weeks that effectively we have been every bit as good as the opposition but little things have cost us. But the players do not believe it and the pressure is growing.

It must be now 100% perfectly clear, even to the most Pro Hurst Brigade that his time is run. This was probably his last chance, along with possibly the Donny game to show that he can turn things around. On even just the evidence of that 45 mins he is just not capable. We are flipping awful in all departments. He's got to go and sooner the better to give a new guy the chance to mend this thing.

Regardless of the final result, we've now conceded at least 2 goals in seven of our last eight games. We are prime relegation candidates. It's given me so much de ja vu of the first half of the Holloway season when we were shipping goals for fun. We are relegation fodder if this carries on.

If you’d have told me at the beginning of August that we’d have been losing Hurst, I would have been comforted by the knowledge that we’d at least be near the top of League Two. I would not have believed things would be this bad.

If there isn’t a stark improvement in performance and result in the second half, you have to ask how long you can base managerial decisions in the present on events of the past.

Neither of which happened in this game.  First goal was from a great through ball which was finished well, and the second was from a corner.

Hurst binned off McKeown presumably because he wanted a keeper who could command his area. Looks like he's since binned off Crocombe to sign a weaker McKeown.

He's signed a bunch of nice guys (not a compliment). These weak-willed fannies are going to get him the sack pretty soon. Zero anger after either goal. If Maher or Eastwood were my teammates, they'd have been getting pelters for their efforts in Colchester's two goals. Can only hope that Green getting back to fitness, despite his deficiencies in technique, might at least introduce a bit of flipping backbone

I made the same point a few weeks ago as I couldn’t fathom out what style of football we were trying to play, whatever it is the players are not on board and it’s looking very bleak for not only PH but also the club.

Any repeat of relegation will be the worst case of miss-management in our history which is one hell of an achievement given our pathetic performances since the millennium.

We've been better second half but that really isn't saying much. We're still the same slow and predictable team we've been all season.
Hurst simply HAS to go now or we are getting relegated.

A question - has any club been relegated from the EFL 3 times? (Barnet maybe) because if we persevere
with this management team thats  exactly what is going to happen to us.
I feel sick.

Commentary was something like, Efete has been really good in stages but falls over his own feet sometimes. That is not a professional footballer that you want at your club. Amos shocking too.
We are in big, big trouble.
Please make it his last game

Well - I’ve given the benefit of doubt for the mediocre start to this season for playing most of the teams in the top half so far.
But this game ! Town have been exposed as relegation material again

Thanks for the memories Paul but your race is run, don’t forget to take your ultra defensive coaches with you, in fact we will keep Shaun Pearson for the youth team

Think I’d consider playing Pearson in goal until the transfer window opens.

So many coaches who are ex-pro defenders and a goalkeeping coach, between them they can't teach this lot how to defend at all we get cut apart so easily. I imagine the team wage is higher than last year too which makes it seem like some are stealing a living at this point. Gifted a lead and then instantly pegged back by the defence being asleep then it went from bad to worse.

Fair play to Wilson getting us back in it but we looked predictable and fragile at the back all game. Couple of times players should have scored but wasted an easy chance, Amos spoons it when he has 3 in the box, Eisa looked well off it today, looked clumsy and lacking in the confidence to make spaces for himself and shoot we have seen previously. As usual we suffer from defensive issues and a goalkeeper mistake on the corner.

This was a pretty naff side that was able to beat players and cut through the defence who looked slow and lethargic. Conteh about the only bit of quality and I thought that the last time I saw us play.

We're scoring goals and we made more chances tonight. The narrative has always been negative etc but the problem is we're fragile as intercourse at the back. Scored 2 at Tranmere and Stockport and 2 at home to Crawley and Colchester and taken 1 point from those 4 games.

Aside from 15 minutes at the start of the second half, that was dire. The ease at which a side as bad as Colchester created chances against us is damning and I expect Ben Davies to be in charge at Donneh on Saturday.

Another very poor home display. It's time for him to go, Donny on Saturday is a match too many. Thank you Paul you have been a good servant for the club so do the honourable thing and resign.

Maybe these coaches should be changed for buses and parked in the goalmouth. That might work.

Well, you must admit Colchester tried to help us out in the beginning.

We’ve been on a horrendous run, playing terrible football but we’ve had a few injuries and struggled to recruit up front after the first few signings. I feel really bleak about this season and it feels like the dark times of the last few years.

I’m prone to bouts of melancholy which the last few weeks have definitely exacerbated. I know I shouldn’t be affected by the travails of 11+ men I’ve never met kicking a sack of air around once or twice a week but I find I am. This is amplified by the the negativity on here which I understand as you all pay your increasingly hard earned money to watch.

I’m despondent about our results and performances this season. I hope we turn it round and I actually think under Hurst and with these players we will. I’ll be logging off until I’m a bit more resilient but I wish you all well irrespective of whether you agree with my unfounded views or not.

Up the Mariners, hopefully see you all on the other side of this. Take care everyone.

That's been the main problem with Grimsby Town and even its fans over the last ten or so years.
We seem to accept losing to the top ten sides as our manager has bigged them up so much and it's as if we should feel lucky to be playing against them.

We seem to have a culture of not wanting any success other than finishing a place above relegation.
I expected more this season especially at home where we've been bored to death despite turning up in record numbers.
