Left back probably, or maybe Mullarkey left back in a four. Could even be a 5 with Clifton at left wing back, who knows?

Lot of changes.

Fine, I'll go and transcribe what Hurst said pre-match for you then:

"Niall Maher's not available - we thought he would be. Don't think he should be too much longer but there was a little bit of damage to his calf after having it scanned which kind of fits with some of the symptoms he's been having"

My guess would be Clifton at left wing-back. Doesn't really speak well for Amos and Glennon if he was preferred there ahead of them.

The ball is in Hunt's court now to put in a good performance.

intercourse all to do with Eastwood that, Rodgers has gone running off into midfield for some reason, missed the ball and left a giant space behind him for Swindon to clip the ball into and their runner to slot it past Eastwood. Just shocking defending.

He's far less effective in the middle , rather than off the left ; unfortunately our most dangerous  attacking player's best  position is on that side - maybe Clifton would be effective right midfield ?

Shouldn't be behind. Played alright to be fair, they just have a bit of quality up top.

Look a little vulnerable with Andrews and Hunt in the middle. Not sure Andrews is better than khouri or Holohan although he did make one good pass.

See Clifton is the new boo boy, makes me laugh really as he was comfortably our best player last season. Players go through drops in form. Still looking our most likely today.

Not sure how Kemp wasn't tracked for the goal.

Clifton had a great season last year but the drop off this season is absolutely huge, can’t string a simple pass together followed by missing an absolute sitter, sums up his season.

Same old Town. We can play some fairly decent football at tines but then a total lack of conviction or penetration in the final third. When chances, really good ones at that, do sporadically come our way we squander them with an uncanny knack of being absolutely excrement at converting them. Add to the mix our usual smattering of bloody awful defending and the result is all too predictable.

He's not 'the new boo boy'. He's being criticised because he missed a very good chance to equalise and has been giving the ball away for fun. He's clearly out of form and isn't justifying his selection ahead of players like Holohan who've been contributing more in central midfield this season.

Glennon had a player marked. He needed support from midfield, especially for that second. I understand we have high standards, but trying to mark 17 players at once isn't easy.

Goals don't usually come from 1 mistake. It's usually a combination of mistakes that allow players to get into positions and the response to those.

And thats the big difference, all the possession and we do zip with it, absolutely sick of it this season, we are absolutely dog sh!t in front of goal!!...take Eisas thunderbolts out the equation, we'd be bottom 2!!.

FFS not following the man in once again. Waterfall at fault this time. He was clueless as to where Cain was then.

As much as I love Waterfall he has had a hand in both there goals, ball watching.

I think things are starting to catch up with him. Mullarkey was favoured to him as CB last week. Need Maher back ASAP.

Much better fight at the end. Town showed much more balls.  Better decision making, and strangely more composure.

Better side second half but our inability to take even the easiest of chances has done for us once again. The silver lining is in that one instance Wilson possibly looks like what we've been missing. That at least gives a little hope for the rest of the season.

Played well again and unlucky to take at least a point but we did miss 2 great chances.  We should be able to play two up front now and we should start to get our season going again.

A loss is disappointing but by all accounts was expected and we really gave it a good go from around 65 mins (just after I managed start watching). Worth noting that the 4 losses we've had in the league have been to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 10th
Posted by: hheh2, September 30, 2023, 5:08pm; Reply: 165
I feel a tide of unluckiness in our season so far. Yes we had a totally off performance against Wrex but the points we have dropped resulted from really tight margins it’s not like we’re totally hopeless
Posted by: Teestogreen, September 30, 2023, 5:08pm; Reply: 166
Giving Pyke a minute plus! Paul clearly hadn’t read the script.
Pleased Wilson is back from those pre - season injury prone games at Grimsby Borough and Cleethorpes

We had more shots and more shots on target than Swindon, but again, no points.

Worth remembering, that with the exception of Crawley, all have players on grossly inflated wages for this division…

We created enough chances to win the game three times over.

I'd definitely like a creative midfield type but I don't think we lacked one today. We just lacked composure in front of goal.

I will write today off but anything less than 3 points  from the two games against Barrow +   Tranmere and I will be asking serious questions of Hurst - Tranmere are in a mess and Barrow at home , we should be competetive .

Lose those two and Hurst's race is run imo ,although I know some would find it acceptable , including our custodians probably .

Below par first 10 games points wise , need 15 points minimum in this second 10 , against all the bottom 8 included ; worrying thing is we are now one of them aswell atm.

second goal not good by rodgers must sense danger there bloody schoolboy stuff , plus strikers missing two yard sitters our luck really out sure it will change , convinced a sending off as well on eisa

I don’t doubt that PH will be reflecting deeply on the first 10 games: an injury cluster up front, unexpected loss of form with both left backs, Clifton and Hunt not stepping up as would have been hoped in centre mid, and perhaps most unexpected a question mark about the club captain as the only specialist centre back cover. PH’s conclusion, hopefully, is that the smaller squad hasn’t worked and whilst our best XI could compete effectively in this stronger league, the squad just isn’t good enough to make material progress on last season. It means the Jan window needs minimum - striker, LB, CB and then with a departure or 2, a 10 / creative mid.

I was expecting huge improvement in all honesty this season ,

If you look back to last season at the same point we were 6th with 18 points (I know we have played a bulk of the big hitters already )

But facts are the bottom 8  at this point last season ,  stayed pretty much the same throughout the season barring Stockport and then Gillingham who threw a load of money at it in January .

We have not got the quality of Stockport nor the finance to throw a load of cash at it in January .

I don't think we will get into a relegation scrap , but unless things turn around massively a season of over achievment  looks unlikely really doesnt it .

Swindon game represented imo the last game in the series, where Town probably wouldn’t get many points.
Don’t think it is unrealistic to think Town will be in top half of the division by November.

Yep. That and the fact Eisa had to stretch to just a get a toe on it and was never going to get back to the ball. Didn't for one minute think it'd be a red, despite the vocals from the crowd.

Did Hurst mention what looked like a pretty clear pen for them? Other end from us but the home fans on the way out weren't in any doubt.

We deserved something but only had ourselves to blame for not getting it.
