We have not got anyone else , so we need to get used to it until the forward players come back

Looks more a case of ‘if you’re fit, you’re on the bench’ rather than a choice.

A  youtube popped up all Town's goals from 89-91.  Wanna see us attack like we did in those days.  We always had loads of bodies in the box. Brought back some good memories.  Boy was Tony Rees a class player.

Why do we bring everybody back for corners, it gives the opposition the opportunity to bring more players forward, also if we clear it, it goes straight to one of their players.

Standing.

Gutted we wasn't able to add on deadline day but shows the calibre of players we must of been going for. We've been really good today and more of a performance you'd love to see more often this season. We seem to have a lot more support for Rose quicker? Gav seems to have had a good pre-season this year and looks alot fitter getting forward or maybe he's just had the shackles released?

11pm here for me in Perth and I think I've just sh!t up the whole apartment block celebrating towns goals.

Go put a few more past them in the second half boys!

Much more cohesive today. Both wingers moving more centrally when they can to support Rose. Clifton and Gav supporting further upfield too.

Perhaps we are gelling better and have more confidence in Conteh to sit deep and tidy up releasing runners.

Played well to a man so far today.

Scored twice and controlled the game fully which is what you want to see at home. Gillingham are no slobs and have started the season well so it shows what the team is capable of when they keep focussed and have a plan.

I questioned why we signed him in a fit of pique as the window closed; I also posted that Eisa should be on the bench instead of Vernam a couple of weeks back - track record building nicely…as we rise up the table…

Well, nothing to complain about that! Best performance of the season and, being Town, probably to be expected after all the angst regarding the lack of signings as the window closed! 😂
Gillingham were surprisingly awful and offered nothing but all credit to Town who totally controlled the game from the first to last whistle.

Really solid win from us, best team throughout. Rodgers and gnahoua probably the two that stood out for me. Although special mention to amos' brilliant tackle which almost certainly prevented a goal. Gillingham had won 4 out of their 5 games before this aswell (not sure how based on that). Again to pick one thing to improve on, kept overhitting crosses into the box, when I feel like the best thing to suit danny rose would be drilling in low bobbling crosses that can cause chaos

Definitely eases my concerns about the size of the squad, can't think of a centre half pairing we've had that compliment each other so well. Maher and Rodgers just improve with each game. Gav had another good game, Conteh is just Conteh, Rose is a shithouse and Gnahoua showed us today what he's capable of. That'll teach me for doubting Paul Hurst  ;D

The same three or four people who post lots when things have gone badly….why don’t they post at all when things have gone well? I don’t really get it - it’s as though they’re only really engaged when they’re moaning. As if they get something out of the disappointment and frustration and critical overstatement. If they can’t throw pelters at the manager, they’re not interested. What does it say about them? I don’t know.

Anyway - great result. Rodgers class. Everyone else - really good. UTM.

"Grimsby were bang average" and the Gills have better players than anyone else but haven't got the right formation/manager.

We played extremely well today with much more energy and a willingness to get forward but Gillingham had an absolute mare.

Lew I couldn't believe what I was reading?
On the one hand they have 12 points somehow but fans that take no notice of the opposition. Town are a side that look a much stiffer test for away sides and have improved in several areas since last season so why they're harping on about last season I don't know? One last thing Gillingham have a pretty poor record at Blundell Park over the years and even when they have  had good teams they have lost.

Like the time they came here riding high when we had Barry Conlon in the team and we did a pack the park offer. We battered them and their manager said the players froze because of the noise and hostility in BP.

Always makes me laugh when fans name an opposition team "bang average" after they have just played them off the park. Most overused put down in football.

I don’t think I’d have been the only fan expecting a game today and a tough test. We got a game but only from us. Gillingham were poor. I’m sure they’re not that bad every week but sometimes, as a fan you have to just sit back and realise the other side were better.
Posted by: gtfc_chris, September 2, 2023, 9:05pm; Reply: 98
Thought we were very good today but I don't think it's anything massively improved from two of the other home games. That's not downplaying today, it's suggesting that we haven't actually been poor in our other games either.

The exception of the 4 at home so far is the Mansfield game, but even that I don't think was a case of us being poor, more Mansfield being a good side and making us adapt and play to match them than the other way around.

Our general play in the Wimbledon, Salford and Gillingham games have been very similar and all of them have been impressive. I don't recall today being a barrage of shots at their goal or golden chances missed, the same as the other games. If there is a slight difference I think it was Gillingham looked the least likely to score of the trio, a positive nudge to our defensive work and organisation.

For me, the reaction is evidence of the positive bias we apply when we win. Had we lost then it would have been about not enough chances, Hurst too pragmatic and defensive, poor window etc etc. I don't believe anything we saw today is different to what we've seen already other than maybe slightly more cohesive.

None of the above designed to be critical of the team or todays result or performance, it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and only adds to the belief we can compete with most teams in this league, even if we're not going to head and shoulders above many of them.
