Absolutely zero idea who any of this lot are but they'll still probably manage to have about 70% possession:

Have to say I'm really excited for this one - there will be few better chances than this to witness some of the future stars of the Saudi Premier League grace the hallowed Blundell Park turf.

That said, 58-year old Murray Jones in goal for City once again makes a mockery of this competition.

Some of these playing tonight would probably struggle to get in our 3rd XI, and it could be the 'last chance saloon' as to whether any of them are farmed out by the end of the window.

These are not the local scout troop these are the under 21 side of one of the most richest clubs in the world. A club that attracts players we can only dream of. Plus they’re not kids they are highly talented young men and therefore to call us an embarrassment is at best an unnecessary knee jerk reaction at worst completely unrealistic.

much as it hurts me to say it ,I can't disagree (apart from Glennon, who I think has done alright)

NB Glennon seems to have done quite well, once again against better quality opposition)

ps Can't imagine Hurst was impressed by Andrews just then. Got tackled, player went on the attack and Andrews just jogged all the way back

He didn't make any major mistakes or anything and certainly wasn't one of town's worst performers in that half, but he didn't really have any impact on the game either. Hard to say if it was due to injury or tactical.

I know what you mean but last season we beat man City u21s with a side that wasn't our first 11. I believe simmonds, a player sent back as not good enough for our squad, scored against them. Did the City u21s progress in the tournament, I genuinely don't know.

They are no doubt a very talented set of young players but they are hardly invincible and certainly not with 10 men they aren't.

Bit early to be saying that. There’s no doubt he’ll be disappointed with how things have gone so far; finding himself second fiddle (after probably signing with hopes if not expectations of being first choice) and then making errors in the minor games he’s featured in, but you don’t make GK appearances for England at youth level without having something about you.

He’s making his first handful of senior appearances in the game. More time needed before writing him off; imho.

Given how much confidence plays a part in goal-keeping, it must be 'wonderful' for him to read the comments on Twitter slagging him off when he's hardly played a game for us.  Our fans are truly pathetic at times.

After watching that on Mariners TV I'm even more convinced we need to switch to wing backs. Efete and Glennon are both excellent going forward but are pretty poor defensively.  I'm thinking something that looks like this;

                                       Eastwood

                     Mullarkey     Rodgers  Maher

Efete                                                               Glennon
                               Conteh      Clifton

                                          Eisa

Rose         Pyke (or striker signed this week!)

I thought Mullarkey looked really good with that freedom to move forward from CB against 10 men tonight, with Rodgers and Maher in a 3 he can still do that, and we can maximise what we can get out of Efete. He just gets caught out defensively far too much to be trusted as an out and out full back. Same goes for Glennon, miles better as a wing back and we saw the best of him in the second half tonight.

I accept the problem with this idea is that we move Eisa in from the left where he's been so effectively, but this way we get a second striker closer to Rose, Eisa dropping in just behind and fit Efete and Glennon in who are big threats going forward whilst mitigating against their defensive flaws with covering centre backs.

I would not have Pyke or Efete in my starting X1 let alone together! If we are going long late in a game then perhaps throw Efete on in attack. Pyke is one paced and reactive rather than creating space.

Vernam needs to knuckle down and rebuild his game. Same with Gnahouha, trying to beat a man in tight situations usually surrenders possession. Both have more tricks than Clifton but only half his energy and persistence. We will have to be patient with our out of form players as Khan and Wilson need another preseason.

Ironically, Freddie Draper for Walsall has all you want from an U21 loanee, Quick, strong, hard working, two footed and full of confidence. Gave our defence plenty to think about.

I haven't seen an announcement of the attendance.

Have I missed it, or is that a new policy by the club for this competition?

Is that binary code for the real attendance?

Glennon looked a real threat when Amos came on at LB with him in front. In my opinion we need that extra attacking threat whenever possible due to the extra quality he can deliver  Motm Clifton with Khouri and Hunt both getting better the longer the game went.Gnaoura and Vernam both woeful and Cartwright needs a lot more experience before he's ready for the EFL.

I think he's given you the binary attendance figures

That's 13 home and 6 away in a more inclusive decimal figure.

I think you have it there - sign a full back before Friday, that will have PH beaming, he loves collecting full backs like old mini coopers. Then unveil our new striker - Michee Efete. His conversion rate must be really good, cool as owt slotting them away…

He’s on loan from The Imps, who rate him highly. Not seen enough of him myself but he appears to have started well at Walsall.

No matter how good the City “kids” were, it’s noticeable that not one of the premierships U21 teams have ever made the final of this competition, probably as Alan Hansen said many years ago,” you don’t win nothing with kids”.

I thought he looked decent against us - physically powerful and capable of playing against physically developed players . Would have been a good option for us on loan imo.

The problem is it's Eisa's best position , Glennon never plays over Eisa realistically.

Funny how there has been 127 comments about the game yet nearly everyone said they weren't interested in it.

I feel a bit for Efete on the first goal, the ball to him was awful and then you can see on the highlights Mullarkey telling Efete to play the pass back.  I assume Efete thought Mullarkey could see more than him after he’d just bust a gut to keep the pass in and played it blind.
He still should have played a better ball, or ignored Mullarkey but some mitigation.  Cartwright had no chance with the ball back, should have kept the second one out though.
