Commentary is on Mariners TV I believe, as there is a recorded message saying thanks for tuning in, your match day commentary show will start soon.

Edit:  Now hearing crowd sounds and music from the ground.  Yep JT and Crofty on duty.

Apparently, so I've heard, allegedly etc. etc. The only games on IPTV are the Wrexham game (on Sky, shock horror) and Donny v Hull (absolutely no idea why).

No iFollow video coverage across the board for the League Cup, which seems ridiculous. No doubts the EFL had their knickers ripped down by Sky when they re-negotiated the TV deal

Looks a good team - pleased Hurst is giving the other GK a game - important to test both the guys out.

The smell in the air (apart from woodbines a beer) is off a team really trying to move up a level......

How many Town fans there tonight?  Must be tough to get decent crowds at this time of year when a lot of folk are, erm, on their private yachts in the Med.

We'd sold 441 yesterday but was also pay on the gate so probably 450-500ish I'd have guessed.

Need to get through to half time at 1 and Hurst get into them and make some changes - we are not at the races which is strange for a Town team

Ah yes, because we judge the transfer window on a game and 30 minutes of football…

I imagine city fans were saying the same thing at Christmas when they were a fair whack behind arsenal…

Yet they’re only 1-0 up from a penalty…fair play to the fishy, getting their moaning started early this year…

Don't think it's due to 1 - 0 more the fact but for a couple of great saves and poor finishing we could be losing by 5 and not laid a glove on them

It’s the fishy, they expect us to be winning at a canter, can make apparent informed judgements about transfer windows and, sadly, after our cup exploits on both fronts last year, probably expect us to win both this year…

Kudos though, they’re starting early this year…

A frigging better show than that. They are better and hungrier than us in every department. The only positive from that is that we're only 1-0 down because Mansfield should be out of sight.
Glennon having a mare and don't get me started on Gnohoua.

They are a very  good side and unlike us settled - not many changes in the summer and playing their first team.

We are a good side , that is newly constructed , resting some of our better players .

We should come out better second half

All games are important, per se but not sure why this would be more important than Saturday, or Tuesday next week.

A cup run is a great but I’m not sure anyone’s losing sleep or gonna be worried about losing a league cup game early doors in the season…we got to the 3rd round last year and made about 10 pence didn’t we?

We seem to have treated it like another friendly against Grimsby Borough

I certainly don't expect us to be "winning at a canter" but I do expect full shifts and there are at least three not putting in the effort required to have a chance of winning a game at this level.

Not with PH in charge. Expect he won't be happy with the performance, and rightly so.

You can say they are favourites for the league (along with about 10 others), and you can say it's only a cup game, but we didn't sound competitive or threatening in the slightest, and that is a worry in my opinion, even at this early stage of the season.

So we couldn’t have got a premier league team and a decent payday in the next round? That’s alright then.

No, as was pointed out last year when we got Forest at home. It simply wasn’t the payday anyone half expected, we’re getting decent gates anyway so aside from probably 25k, not really.

Think PH told the board he could take last years team no further.

Anyone disagree?

Last year was sensational as was the one before, but we have to be realistic and the squad still needs to be strengthened with some departures inevitable

There is the possibility of drawing a team away and getting our share of a 25k+ attendance instead of 8k.

Sounds like we were crape don't care what competition it is it's not good enough they were all experienced 1st team players. Nothing up front again.

It's an extra game, and a full house. What the intercourse are you on about? Everyone has to pay as well of course, even season ticket holders.

Same players, different names.

At least we've got until the end of the transfer window, to bring in some more same players different names.

So it’s not worth the team getting out of bed for 25k extra revenue now?

All on loan into the conference you’d imagine…

See ya Saturday…

I do think at least one will go .

I'm sure Saturday will be better after arr Paul gets into them .

Always disappointing to lose any game but in the longer term this might well be doing us a favour by showing PH which players will not be good enough if we want to push for a play off position. When a number of us questioned Green’s abilities last year we were shouted down but maybe tonight further demonstrates that he’s probably conference level at best and, unfortunately, the same may apply to Gav. The two games played may also remind PH that we do need an alternative up front and this maybe needs more urgent attention than he first thought.

Still believe we have signed some decent players and it may take a little time for them to gel but we do need to increase our goal threat. Anyway look forward to Saturday’s visit to Meadow Lane and hopefully we see some real attacking threat.

Can't see how we only made 25k from over 8000 paying customers.

Don't know about Alf Ramsey, you sound more like Alf Garnett.  ;)

Well if that’s the case we would need 3 or 4more incoming and the budget apparently is spent so. I doubt it.

It’s predictable on here though, starts earlier every year seemingly.

It was excrement, Hurst will know who he can and can’t trust, some are still settling in, we’ve already identified areas of strength and those that require a little work…

In the grand scheme of a season, losing in the first round of the cup has zero impact. So you might have been able to make an additional £25k, still not really worth the somewhat predictable and typical over reaction to every town defeat…

Not sure Me Garnett would follow with my political leanings…

You’d imagine Amos and Holohan both want to play, Holohan has dropped out the league before to play regularly so you’d imagine he’s not too worried. Amos is decent but Efete coming on, even in a system change suggests he’s unlikely to feature either.

Green might hang around to be that sort of player that is brought on to tighten things up, although I’d have him no where near the side and would bin him off and keep Holohan in the fold…

Said last season that Green wasn’t good enough and got pelters for it. I stand by that statement. Holohan is also only good enough for back up.

But the concerning thing from tonight is the fact none of the new attacking signings did anything and the apparent lack of effort from some. I’d be interested to know which players weren’t giving their all.

I also think neither Amos or Glennon are good enough if you want to be around the top 7. Too slow and too easily beaten, they’re starting to get targeted and we concede a startling amount of our goals from that side.

I think Glennon is much better when he’s got someone he can trust in front of him, although I still prefer 3 at the back with Glennon out wide.

If we need back up I’d keep Holohan. I’ve never been a fan of Green and I’m not overly keen on Maher but I do think he will improve this season and Saturday’s back four is no doubt our strongest, even a change can skew a defensive unit.

If you play with effectively wingers (Vernam and Eisa/Gnahoua) you need good defensive full backs. Mullarkey is, Glennon isn’t.

I agree in that holohan offers more than green but doesn't green have 2 more years on his contract as opposed to holohan with 1? - that might decide that holohan is the one to leave. We have plenty of options in CM so that might be enough to free up enough budget to get a forward in on loan or something.

I don't blame the players. A team picked to give players a game is no good for anybody. Every part of the team changed - what chance have they got? You need to make the odd change when necessary but you need a team to gel and get a rhythm going.

You could see on Saturday it's going to be a struggle to score goals and tonight we did well to get into their half.

I will be amazed if we go 2 successive games unchanged during the season.

Oh and we obviously need a big front man but what's new.

Green signed a 2 year deal with an option for a 3rd. Hopefully our option not his.

The left side of our defence has been targeted for a long time now. Glennon's judgement when a ball is played over his head into space is really poor for this level, and for the second half of last season, virtually every team we played knew and targeted it.

From the friendlies to last Saturday I thought he hadn't done enough and I am/was a fan of him when he was last here.

I was still very surprised that we paid money and a 3 year deal.

He needs to do more than he has so far.

Thought Vernam was an in and out player last time we had him, nothings changed imo.
As for Green a liability this season, the league's got as lot stronger and unless we sign some fire power from somewhere we are going to struggle.

Looks like Green and Vernam are neck and neck for the boo-boy target this season...

Sounded a shocker of a performance and whilst it's not what those who went will want to hear but I'd rather we get that out the way now.  Reading between the lines with what Hurst said post-game and a few bits going into it, he's recognised that there are some players who just aren't going to be on this journey with us.

As said yesterday, that's expected as we look to improve.  The likes of Holohan, who were huge in the last 18 months for us, just aren't what we need anymore to kick on to that next level.  That's the harsh realities of football and striving for the next step up.

This time last summer we thought Green was what we needed.  And he played a role in what we achieved last season with a mid-table finish and a cup run.  That brings extra resource and with that extra ambition.  Green's role is now taken by Conteh, as someone we've identified that will help us progress.

It's disappointing and I do feel for those that went, it's effectively the closest game to me yet I couldn't be bothered.  I guessed that it would be a fair few changes to the line-up and felt we wouldn't be at the races with it.  But will we really line-up like that in the league at any point? I think probably not.

I rarely comment about tactics, not my thing, but One thing I don't understand is why we bring everyone back to defend a corner!  If it is cleared, it comes straight back into the mix, whereas one player left up field might have a chance of getting the clearance, or at least it keeps 1 or 2 of their players from adding to the threat in our penalty area.

Hurst was asked this last week. Said it was made pretty obvious to him early in the window that it would not be a goer. He’s also said that situations, in general, change once the season starts and players become aware of whether they’re in the manager’s plans or not.

So you never know, not been in the Cheltenham squad for the first two games now, he might be starting to think about other options now being in his last season in contract.

Impressed in pre-season too, which seems a shame for him as with Alfie May going and Cheltenham struggling to bring in replacements it could have been his real breakthrough there.

Needs an operation now, not sure on what.  I think we can definitely chalk him off on the not happening board, definitely for this window anyway.
