Was a teenage sensation at Birmingham City when they won promotion - memories from my Shoot magazine in the early 70s. Another relatively early death of a great player. RIP.

British football would never be the same again once the £1m barrier had been broken and helped elevate Forest fans smuggness to stratospheric levels that is still felt today when he scored against Malmo, great player though

RIP Trev

69, no age to pass away. A great player and will always be remembered as the 1st million £ player to be transferred. RIP Trevor.

Wow I wasn’t expecting him to fall off the perch.

To be honest he was no lover of Town or maybe it was just Buckleys teams but he never gave us any credit when commentating

Very early death.   Cannot remember why, but my dad took me to see him play for Birmingham at Sheff Wed.  He was only 16 and scored a hard trick.  Birmingham won 5-2 I think.  Great talent recognised with being the first Million pound footballer.

Cloughie helped him to 2 European Cups.  Again, by chance whilst serving in the RAF in Germany, 3 of went to their European Cup final win over Malmo in Munich.  Trevor Francis put in the cross for the winning and only goal.

Still not sure how Malmo got to the final.  It was all 2-leg KO matches then.

Wasn’t he one of the first players to take diet seriously after he went to Italy. I remember him being a hell of a player for Wednesday in his late 30s. That all being the case I’m shocked to hear he had a heart attack.

I remember years ago my Sunday football team had an auction night. We had lots of stuff. Bobby Charlton autograph, signed footballs from various clubs .etc  We asked Trevor Francis for a signed picture and he wrote back to us politely refusing. We sold the letter of refusal at auction.  The Daily Star headline said Trev’s no fetches tenner Great player though.

Sad loss.

The real fee was probably a lot more than £1m when Cloughie’s brown paper bags are taken into account (allegedly).

Francis scored the only goal against Malmo.  That is what you pay a million pounds for. I knew he played a big part in the goal.  From memory I thought. he crossed it for the winner.  Maybe it was John Robertson who provided the cross?

Kind of ironic that the first million pound player should die on the same day as the most outrageous and highest bid for a footballer ever is tabled…

The £260m bid for Mbappe isn't too far from the football-inflation adjusted cost of £253.5m for Trevor Francis!

Sad news . I note as well Chris Bart Williams who played under Trevor Francis died on the same day at just 49 years old .

RIP the pair of them.

At times this world can be so cruel.
