Called up to the New Zealand squad after a 5 year absence, been quite the few weeks for him after him and his partner got engaged.

I hope their physio is proficient at dealing with cramp!

What a weird way to announce the squad....in alphabetical order. I guess we all know what position these stars of today's game play 🙄

Well done to Max. That is one heck of a random array of clubs sides represented!

Probably a bit ignorant of me to say, but I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner. I'm sure I looked up their other GKs when we were in the NL and the others in the squad weren't at a particularly higher level. Well done to him though, regardless of where he ends up he's done a solid job for us and has earnt this.

That's two Town players called up for international duty now. When was the last time that happened?

Town games called off due to call ups?

Gtfc teknocat slow of the mark again with Max’s call up, but at least the table is correct now! purrrrfect

Is Liberato Cacace another name for an attacking sweeper? I can remember watching Football Italia in the 90s and I’m sure that was used to describe Baresi’s position?

Isn't that the old Italian currency that you used to get about 8,000 to the pound for ? 😄

Mark Wright also briefly enjoyed that label too.

Are the GTFC site not putting up Cromcombe’s international call up because they know he has gone?

They’ve tweeted it on their social media, sadly the website isn’t updated as often as it used to be.

We have had at least eight goalkeepers who I can recall who have played international football seven in my time watching
Posted by: diehardmariner, June 8, 2023, 3:22pm; Reply: 16
Is that eight who've played international football whilst at Town or in their careers?

I'm guessing it's the latter rather than the former.

I'm going with (not including Crocombe):

Dean Henderson (Eng)
Wayne Henderson (Ire)
Nick Colgan (Ire)
Aidan Davison (N.Ire)
Danny Coyne (Wal)
Dave Beasant (Eng)

Jason Batty (NZ) don't think he played a game for us but seem to remember he was NZ's No.1 during that time
Alan Fettis (NIR)

maybe more...

Completely forgot about Fettis!  Two international 'keepers from the same country in one season, if only Andy Petterson had found an Ulster grandmother in his family tree!

Great shout on Batty.

Yes he did play for Hong Kong against Peru while on National Service and is credited as a full international in the records

San Marino tried to call up James McKeown but they couldn't find the required paperwork

Has a time limit been set for Max to say yay or nay to the new contract offer ?

At the very least, we need a budding No 2 to offer good competition to him or a n other.

Well if there is, that’s not likely to be made public. Sure PH is across it.

I was told that PH used to give players 14 days and after that the offer was withdrawn even if the player reappeared and wanted to sign the contract (I believe that happened to Nathan Arnold).

Hope PH has a new Number 1 keeper in hand (as we need one) so if Max does decide to stay he will make a good Number 2

I see that Jamal Blackman has been released by Exeter. Now, that would be a formidable signing

Does Zhang Enhua count?  His Town goal celebration was used as the opening credits on ITV's Goals on Sunday.
BTW he died in 2021 at the ripe old age of 48

Drank himself to death at his 48th birthday party by all accounts. Tragic. Had a great spell with us.

"There was a deadline on my decision as the manager wanted to know what I was doing, so that if I wasn’t staying he could bring in replacements early."

"That made it tougher and kind of forced the decision a little bit......... I was happy to stay, but he wants to bring in other goalkeepers and there was not really that guarantee that I would play."

Good move by Hurst that. Don't let any player have the upper hand.

How long did Crocombe expect Hurst to wait for an answer, especially when he had been told that there was no guarantee he would even play. If you can't make a decision in a decent amount of time..........tata.........don't let the door hit your bottom on the way out.

I understand that players want to be first choice but no-one has the right to be automatically selected each week, it is up to each individual to prove their worth as a first team player when they get the opportunity and in training.
We do not know the full discussion but it seems Hurst is looking for improvement and obviously didn’t want to be left in the lurch at the last moment. Max had the choice and didn’t take it, I liked him and he commanded his six yard box from crosses and corners very well, but other aspects needed improvement.
He will always be remembered for being part of that team and the incredible play offs
Hope he gets sorted with a decent club and wish him all the best for his future
