"Jack" has asked me this question:

On wikipedia page, it states that Elemer Berkessy was the first ever foreign manager in English football as a caretaker manager of Grimsby.
However in the Official history of Grimsby Town by Dave Wherry, he is only listed as a coach from Nov - Dec 1954 (when Billy Walsh was manager).
There is a gap between 1st March 1955 when Walsh departed and 15 March when Allenby Chiltern was appointed. The book does not say who was in charge for the 3 league matches during this period, but as Berkessy left in Dec 1954 because he could not get work permit it is probably not him. Can anyone confirm if Berkessy was ever manager of Grimsby

An Interesting read as it looks like we led the way where others feared to tread. How different it is today in football management.

I think people are getting mixed up. In some clubs The coach is the manager or the manager is the coach. Is Hurst our manager or coach ( we have other coaches ) ?

Peter Sheffield was definitely a coach if that helps muddy the waters.
