Could be a 3-5-2 with Clifton and Glennon at wingbacks.
Khan maybe in a free role behind Richardson and Pepple.

No Efete in the squad at all?

Maybe, but could just be 442 with Smith or Maher going RB to replace Efete who has been poor lately.

I'm a bit surprised Orsi isn't starting as a more experienced forward with Taylor out - is this a match fitness thing?

Are you sure you are not at Sale v Exeter?

Shame about Efete - probably confidence is shot. He's a decent athlete, has good control and can beat a man - but if he's lost confidence and fearful of making errors, he'll make more errors. Probably best leave him out for a few games to help him back to form and confidence.

Hoping for a better game and a better result than last night.  Ho Chi Minh City V Saigon derby.  shocking turnout - 800-1000.  Fans are ultra fickle here Saigon bottom before the game and we second bottom. Saigon won in a turgid match marred even more by players on one side going down with cramp.  Ref need to put a stop to it.  How does a pro goalkeeper get cramp with 30 minutes to go??

Surprised I thought JMD was good value against Carlisle and also think Orsi did well when he came on and deserves to start over Pepple.

We just need someone upfront, Khan,Clifton and Richardson are doing well but People isn't good enough on this showing.
Overall a good half considering circumstances (injuries, newly promoted, away from home etc)

Pepple’s a weird player. He ambles around like he’s desperate for a shït (one of those constipated blockages that makes your thighs burn like a bonfire) but as soon as the ball comes near him he finds half a yard.

Still can’t decide about him.

Goal will do Richardson some good. He was even giving their defenders some verbals after that. Feel like I’m watching him hit puberty but in a DBS compliant way.

Waterfall is being his usual hunk of red meat. As him and Vassell macho-manned off the pitch at half time they shared a quick, respectful manshake. Waterfall’s loving it. Not sure if Vassell is.

Fair comment so why has been chosen to start? I guess if he scores it gives him confidence bu if he has a poor half, like he has, then it's going to do the opposite. A gamble that hasn't paid off maybe. Anyway, he needs subbing sooner rather than later I feel.

Take my Pepple is gonna bag back 😂 not entirely sure what Luton as a relatively established Championship club seen in him and what there plan is with him, doesn’t seem to have much composure infront of goal which for ST is quite important. He’s raw maybe some of the attributes he lacks can be taught and they’ve seen something in him. As a town fan I’d much rather us be playing Orsi who is our player and can hopefully put the ball in the net rather than giving a young raw loanee a run about. Whether it’s because Orsi isn’t 100% idk but that’s my opinion.

Enjoyable game of football.  Any side could have won, some good football, a town fan flies over a hoarding and and a pitch invasion - unfortunately not in Erica Roe's calibre.  Richardson got his first goal and Crocombe and the defence got themselves back together.  Smith played well as did Waterfall.  The weak link for me is Glennon.

Decent point given our lack of firepower, you just cant help wonder how much better we would be with a decent striker !

Before you all start moaning about "There's nobody available", "We cant afford one", just look at Notts County. At the start of the season they signed Macualay Longstaff from Gateshead after 32 goals and 14 assists for them last season. This season he's on 15 goals from 11 appearances (including a hat-trick today) !

They ARE available, we just seem to look in the wrong places.

Really? We may have too many middle of League 2 standard players rather than top end players, but to claim otherwise seems odd.

Didnt go today but Glennon has looked a bit ropey defensively when I've seen him this season. A lesser player at present than he was when he was with us a few years ago, so I hope he can regain his mojo.

Surprised there has been so much criticism of Pepple on the forum so far. He's young, inexperienced and has only been in the country for 5 minutes. I'd imagine a 'home-grown' player would be given some leeway but it seems some have written off Pepple already, for some reason. Similar age to Darren Mansaram, isn't he?

I think that is a very good point away from home. There are again one or two eye-raising results in L2. Swindon, who were judged deserved victors at BP, could not win at home today and Newport who we comprehensively beat at their place beat Orient away! I would have put that one down as a home banker. Barrow (are they flattering to deceive?) beaten at Tranmere. Are Stevenage really that good?? I find it hard to believe that they are near to the top and the media piling praise on Steve Evans. Nothing can be taken for granted in this league and I would not risk any money on betting who will get promoted or relegated.  When we play our best we are a match for anyone in this league. Everything to play for. UTM.

Mansaram must be about 40 now, surely?

Probably older! Just pointing out that Mansaram was given lots of leeway when attempting to lead the line aged 19, despite the fact that he wasn't very effective.

In an ideal world, we'd have a backup for Taylor and would be able to bring Pepple on in fits and starts rather than relying on him to try and lead the line against experienced defenders in an important away game.

My initial reaction to hearing the line up is not one of confidence. You never know, but I worry today will expose our failure to secure a Taylor alternative during the window.

Hope I’m wrong.

From the interviews given by both JS and PH I expect we had a budget for the alternative but couldn’t attract a player of the right calibre and, importantly, temprement and character. Making sure the face fits has been a strong emphasis in the interviews.

Why didn’t we go for Quigley? He’s been getting goals for Rochdale. He would surely have been within budget. He’s a shithouser on the pitch (nothing necessarily wrong with that) but maybe he’s a buffoon off it, don’t know.

From what I’ve seen of Pepple he’s not the answer at the moment. He might make it, he’s a good enough athlete but needs to be more physical and he lacks the game sense and nouse for this level. Probably needed a season at National League 1 with buckets of goals before stepping up.

Perhaps we’ll see an Orsi Richardson combo until Taylor and McAtee are back?
