Hope he's okay after getting nutted full hammer from  a Forest fan.

What a utter moron, hope they find him soon so he never goes to another game again.

A prime chance for the justice system to make a proper example if someone. The Leicester fan who attacked the Forest players in the cup got 4 months in YOI, this one was far more brutal and deserves years behind bars.

I hope he's found, caught and chucked in a cell for a long time. I also hope he's made to apologise in public and his name is shown. Soon teach idiots like him a lesson, his teams just won ffs. People like him is what is wrong with this world.

Football fans are generally “made an example of” at every possible opportunity. This bloke will definitely be going down.

On a slightly related note, this tweet from Amanda Jacks at the FSF is worrying - looks like banning orders are going to go through the roof in the next few years -

Firstly shocking,   That was no accident, no sorry or concern for BS, its people like this that ruin it for everyone else.  What a thick knucklehead.

Where was the stewarding, surely they would have known something like this would happen (pitch invasion).  You actually see a bald headed man with a yellow top during the highlights on Quest.

I can see the metal fence being put back up, maybe temporary fence during the last game / playoff.

Here is a different video.

How do you limit things like this happening, without killing the occasion for fans.  Do you install a motorised fence that can be erected at a touch of a button.  Do you know allow fans to buy tickets that don't have a police record relating to football.  I don't know anything about the fan that did it, he could be a family man for all i know, off his head on drugs.

These sorts of incidents are happening too frequently. It's hardly the crime of the century to invade a football pitch uninvited but something needs to be done. If that means clubs and authorities treating it as the offence that it is (it's not like there aren't signs posted around grounds)- decent fines for every identifiable person on that pitch. 1 year bans if it happens again. Will send a strong message that it's not okay to invade a football pitch regardless of how ecstatic you are or how many other people are doing it. There has to be legitimate consequences.

Part of the problem is that there are always people trying to make pitch invasions acceptable. "It happens everywhere", "just a show of emotion" etc. etc.
That means that when it happens real idiots like this guy seize the opportunity. When I saw the video it made me grateful we didn't have a similar individual go on the pitch at Barnet because he could easily have attacked their keeper who'd been winding us up with time wasting antics.
Bottom line is we have to educate people that there are no circumstances where going on the pitch is acceptable. It's a cultural shift and the people at the top of football need to get their wagons in a circle

If you go on the pitch and are identified, you'll be banned from attending all future games.

This should be the standard punishment, right across the board, so there's no misunderstanding. Everyone knows the rule, no matter which ground they're at.

I appreciate for the vast majority of fans, invading the pitch is just an expression of joy and a chance to share the same space as the heroes that achieve promotion or whatever.

But you'd hope it'd make fans think twice. The bloke who butted Sharp last night won't be able to go to Wembley now. In fact he won't be able to go back to watch Forest again any time soon. he's just lost his Saturday afternoons.

And if they go up, he'll miss out on their games against Leicester, Man City, Liverpool, Spurs, etc.

One of my workmates says the Sheff U fans think it might be a case of mistaken identity ..... and that he wanted to attack the Blades' manager for his wind-up antics during the game and not Sharp

Can't imagine that would be a good defence line.... "I assaulted the wrong man your honour"  ::)

On another note if he's a "family man" then what sort of guidance and example is he setting? If anything that could weigh even heavier against him than if he was just a one-off nutjob  :-/

I for one love a good pitchy and have done all my life, never attacked a player during my many encroachments on to the hallowed turf so calls for carpet bans on all who make the move from terrace to turf at the end of season is such a knee jerk statement it deserves headbutting  into the long grass.

Perimeter fencing was like being a contestant on krypton factor having to scale those and drop the other side so I would not mind a return to them at all even if it was just for my cardio.

There were a 1000's of pitch invaders all over the country and only one flying headbutt so give the lad a good bit of shovel and lets move on.

The simple fact is, it happened, he’s been arrayed and will no doubt face his punishment. End of story.

We can debate all we want but the reaction from some proves why this will always be a weird thing to discuss. We’ve got people on here paranoid someone’s gonna get shivved up without any real evidence rod that ever happening to a player again a sporting event in this country and then we’ve got folk who literally don’t seem arsed and are indifferent.

Pitch invasions like that one at forest have been part of the game for donkeys years. It won’t go away, and this is an isolated incident. I wonder if the United player will be dealt with by the police for assaulting a fan? Either way, the pitch invasion looked mega and it’s safe to say that apart from those in the upper tiers pretty much everyone was on the pitch having a good time.

There’s always a level of hysteria when something like this isolated incident happens, perhaps because they’re so rare they magnified beyond sensible levels?

Anyway, remember, blue and red smokies for Monday, keep your Gak safe and remember, best running shoes to get over the train barriers and the predictable pitch invasion as town run out 8-0 winners…

Hard one isn't it. Very lenient sentence, but then there's not much benefit to keeping someone locked up in terms of rehabilitation or effectiveness at reducing crime (it is literally just for the punishment part).and we simply don't have the space or staffing in the prison system at the moment to give people lengthy sentences as a deterrent

I think there is a strong case for a longer sentence and I'm genuinely surprised at the leniency. The fact that Billy Sharp only needed 4 stitches and no lasting injury is irrelevant and just pure luck - if the head butt had struck the cheekbone / eye socket area it could have been much more serious. This sentence is more like that for a drunken street brawl than a serious assault on someone in their place of work.

If someone is banned from attending football matches for a period of time - how is this enforced?

No doubt a single with the Sex Pistols will on the cards.....

Ronnie Biggs was doing time
Till he done a bunk
Now he says he’s seen the light
And he’s sold his soul to punk.

I won’t quote the more offensive lyrics

Exactly, grow a beard/have a shave, buy tickets in cash or get a mate to do it and hey presto, you're back in the ground!

Just noticed on a vid on Facebook they were talking about an increase in violence at America  High school sports events and at wrestling matches by spectators (not the cometorors!) Since covid. Think that has been mentioned in the UK too for sports events,  maybe its a worldwide and sportswide phenomenon.

People around the world locked down through no fault of their own, politicians taking the urine left right and centre, cost of living through the roof in most countries…not a surprise really…frustrations manifest and usually come out, and sadly, for some that is violence or aggression…

He should lose his rights to walk the streets for a very long time.

Except he will not spend 6 months in prison. Probably 2 months and then out on licence. It's a joke. All prison sentences under 2years should be full term.

You’d need to significantly overhaul a system nobody cares about…

Then if they released those serving sentences way over tariff, you’d then potentially have the space…

Nowhere near long enough for an attack like that.

If you did the same thing in the street to a random stranger you’d be unfortunate to get a prison sentence at all…

I agree, this talk of it being a lenient sentence confuses me. Stuff like that and worse happens all the time with people not getting time. I know of a guy that beat somebody up badly, was on top of him on the floor literally punching his head in, all in front of a police officer. He pleaded guilty and got a couple of months community service.

I'm much more annoyed at the lenient sentencing towards rapists, murderers and nonces that ruin people's lives forever and get hardly any punishment in relation to the damage caused.

We don’t always agree but on this I’m inclined to agree. 100% had this happened literally anywhere else in any other context the guy doesn’t get a jail sentence…not saying that right but it wouldn’t happen.

As you say, there’s far worse examples of folk doing things far worse and not even getting a prison sentence. A friend got jumped, completely unprovoked spent a week in ITU, the person that did was found and sentenced…got 12 weeks…
