Hard to know whether Amos is injured or if Hurst fancied Crookes' physicality.

Hurst said one of two had sickness. so maybe Amos was one of those.

Not massively enamoured by that starting lineup but let's see how it goes (would really love to know what the justification for starting Jones over Fox is)

In my opinion Fox should be in instead of Jones. Jones was woeful last week.

I thought Jones was poor last week and Clifton and Hoolihan carried him.

Joey Jones appeared to pull up during the shooting drills and left the pitch before the final warm up exercises & about 5 minutes before the rest of the starting XI went back to the changing room.

Jones is in the side to win headers in front of the centre backs. PH mentioned him as winning more than them last week in the first half when we were under the cosh. He also says that Jones brings more balance to the midfield.

Not saying I particularly agree with what he says, but the results lately make it hard to argue with.

Posted by: Chrisblor, April 30, 2022, 3:51pm; Reply: 48
flipping abject this. Midfield is getting outbattled by Barnet and our only tactic seems to be a hoof up to Taylor but without anyone bothering to get up the pitch to support him. Goal was shite, Waterfall giving a stupid foul away because he tried to get ahead of his man and failed and then dragged him down. They then lumped the resulting free kick into the box, Smith fell over and even though the ball bounced around the six yard area no town players got anywhere near it allowing them to tap it home. Without Amos or Efete there's no overlap from the two full backs so we just look clueless. Only way I can see us scoring without any changes is from a long throw or set piece. Jones, as ever, may as well not even be on the pitch for all he's offered in the first half. Sousa's just ran down a load of blind alleys with no end product as usual as well. Really annoying because it's obvious Barnet are absolute junk, but we've just not bothered to turn up.

lmao give over, the atmosphere was great for the first 30 minutes or so until it became clear the town players couldn't be arsed today and then conceded a poor goal to a crap team. the players have to excite the crowd in games against lesser opponents like this - when they're playing this poorly there's hardly gonna be loads of noise coming from the away end is there
Posted by: HertsGTFC, April 30, 2022, 3:54pm; Reply: 56
Well that’s not working at all, if you didn’t know what the table looked like you’ve had thought that both sides had little to play for.

Looks like Abrahams is coming on judging by Greg doing some 121 work with him.

This is gash and we’re lucky to only be one down. The pitch isn’t helping but it’s the same for both sides.
Don’t want Jones to become the new boo boy but he’s awful. Only time we’ve looked mildly dangerous is with Erico down their left side. We need a major shake up at half time

They've not really given us anything to cheer though.

Agree midifeld is none existant, Sousa getting lots of the ball but not doing much with it.

Taylor is chasing long hoofs, not had much to try and hold up.

Scannel seems to be having an off day as well, his 1st touch today especially poor.

Waterfal seems to be the only one aying with passion.

I'm really struggling to see why Fox is behind Jones on the depth chart.

Real kick up the bottom at half time needed.

It would  be difficult for them to win a header with him stood in the spot they would advance to to head it. He brings the reverse of balance to me, a centre back stood in front of the centre backs. He has the occasional good long pass and is tall, that's all he offers, howeger Hurst does put a surprising amount of emphasis on height and I think thats why he is in the team.

Crookes has offered absolutely nothing going forward and has had a hiccup defensively too nearly playing them in. Sousa has done his usual of terrible final cross or pass.

We don't get runners up to taylor enough or quick enough for him to be effective at the moment. Also when somebody did have a shot from distance that their keeper didn't hold absolutely nobody from town followed in, we just don't have any natural goal scorers.

Nobody has held o  to it for town, they've looked ordinary but definitely better than us at times but we've set a very lower bar first half.

We have to improve second half surely! We can still win this

I don't care what Tondeur thinks - I'm telling you from my own experience stood in the away end that the atmosphere was fine for the first 30 minutes. Then we started playing worse and worse, and OBVIOUSLY it was hardly going to be a party atmosphere after conceding to one of the worst teams in the league. If the players in this half give us something to get excited about then it'll get noisy. That's how it works.

2-2 Full Time. Into 6th. Could have been 5th but 2-0 down i’d have taken a point

Could be a very valuable point at the end of the season.

Can we blame the pitch?, the referee?..
How we've pulled that back just shows the determination within this group, never say die attitude!..

Got out of jail I suppose

But don’t they say any point away from home is a good point?

6th place now and still in our own hands if we want to finish any higher to get a home play off tie

Sounded dire for most of the game.  In that case, a good point.  Still in the mix.

Would love it if we could get a 5th placed finish, a home crowd could be the difference between us winning the play off game.

3 games left we still could but we’ll have to be much better than we’ve been today.

It's only goal difference.  We need to thrash someone.

Got an unexpected day off today, but couldn't get a ticket. I live in Bristol, so popped along to Ashton Gate instead (in my town shirt obvs). And can honestly say Hull are the worst team I've seen this season, which is quite impressive considering the only other games I've been to have been national league.

I’m not sure I see what PH sees. Fox has been reliable all season, Jones was woeful against Stockport, poor against Torquay yet gets a start, is he just trying to justify signing him?

Well he took him off at HT so maybe he’s seen what you’ve seen😉

Hurst plays a man, recognises in two games that he’s done or not been good enough and replaces him and we get a positive result…folk still moan.

Fox is ok but let’s not suddenly turn him in to flipping Iniesta….

No, he isn’t Iniesta but he’s substantially better than Jones.

Fox has also very recently returned from a significant injury.

For me it has to be Fox, Clifton and Holohan in the midfield.

Why Clifton? Just don’t get it the guy is 100% effort and running but has poor distribution and poor ball control and his finishing is iffy at best, if he wasn’t home grown I think fans would be asking for better on the left hand side of midfield. Happy to have him as a versatile squad member but don’t believe he has enough qualities to be a regular starter if we want promotion from this league.

7 goals, only one behind Taylor, playing out of position. One of the first names on the team sheet for me.

Your not alone in your view as I note on another thread that a number believe Harry to be player of the year which just demonstrates how we all view players and performances differently. As I said previously I personally just don’t see it with Harry and believe if he were replaced with a decent left footed player the team would be better balanced. Playing him in the centre of midfield would give us energy and bite but just think his first touch and passing quality is not good enough for him to hold a place down in this area.

I accept I’m in the minority with this opinion but we can’t all agree on respective players qualities but happy if Harry were to make me eat my words as that would mean the team are succeeding.

I don't recognise the player you describe. He's full of energy and running, more often than not he goes forward and drives the team forward. Gets in important tackles and blocks to help break down opposition attacks.makes himself available to other players for an out ball or keeping an attack moving. Has a nice touch and generally knows when to hold the ball and when to pass it.
I'm surprised clubs in league 2 aren't looking at him. I regularly think he's the best player on the pitch.

It's all about opinions.
