Crocombe, Cropper, Smith, Waterfall, Amos, Maguire-Drew, Holohan, Clifton, Jones, Taylor, McAtee.

Subs: Pearson, Fox, Scannell, Abrahams, Dieseruvwe.

Start for Jones.

MASSIVE game today COME ON

Sousa out the squad, Fox back on the bench. Interesting to see whqt Jones is about,.hasn't played much recently. These have got 13 points from their last 10 games, we can certainly get at least a point here!

We've signed Joey Jones from Daggers since then.  Loan

Obviously Hurst sees something in Jones to have taken him from a side lower in the table that doesn’t have a use for him. Interesting to see how it turns out.

Sad to see Scannell dropped but I guess it was obvious. People will see it as a negative move and I see where they’re coming from but I don’t think he was majorly effective on that side anyway last week. I thought he was ok and kept the ball well without threatening too much. Clifton knows the script away from home on the left of midfield. Hopefully he can get on for JMD who has been fading in games since his return (understandably) on the right and do some damage later on.

I think we can do something here today. Hopefully get off to a good start and see where it takes us!

Depending on Jones this looks like a balanced side with good subs. A point should be good but I'm hoping for a win.

Quite surprised to see that Sousa doesn’t make the squad. Obviously, with most players now fit, there’ll be those who miss out altogether……Burgess, Crookes, Wright being others.
Posted by: Poojah, April 2, 2022, 2:25pm; Reply: 10
Useless fact: the average squad number of our starting lineup today is 23.

That must be something of a record, surely?

Akwasi Asante starts for Chesterfield. Mad Gav Gunning on the bench.

I'm not, he has zero end product. If he chipped in with the odd goal or assist I could understand it, but when you look at the minutes he's had this season compared to goals, Shaun Pearson is more of a threat than Sousa is!!

He does a 1050 miles per gallon though, so that's something.

Joking apart, I agree. He's a show pony with no end product. JMD has done much more in far fewer appearances.

JMD is an improvement on Sousa and that's the aim of squad building.
Posted by: immariner, April 2, 2022, 2:45pm; Reply: 14
Sousa hit the ground running but hasn't lived up to it. Good close control but shanks shots and crosses with unerring consistency
Posted by: chaos33, April 2, 2022, 2:46pm; Reply: 15
I suppose it’s difficult to argue with statistical facts. I like Sousa though and I’m glad we’ve got him. Without the stats reflecting end product I do think he makes things happen and that opposition defenders find him hard to manage. He’s got more to give this season I’m sure.

On the subject of Chesterfield’s line up…..if we had Asante and Gunning in our squad in 2022 I’d be severely disillusioned.

Got to wonder if Dieseruvwe deserved a longer run in the team. I've only seen him stick a couple in on highlights though, can't judge his all-round game

That table doesn’t show any player having an assist, that can’t be right, can it?

The access to stats in non league is shite. If you want accurate assist numbers or info like xG you have to pay a quite expensive subscription to a third party scouting company. There's nobody who lists national league assists for free (to my knowledge anyway)

Taylor dragged a shot wide from the middle of the penalty area under no pressure just before they scored. JMD then somehow put one over the bar from about 3 yards out. A very frustrating start.

Two good chances for Town on 2 and 6 minutes, both missed, with a very well worked corner routine from Chesterfields right straight from the training ground giving them the lead in between. Sadly Town were stood like statues.

A rocket from 20 yards from McAtee and then another from Holahan gave town the lead. Thereafter we had almost all of the play. On the balance of play we are probably two goals better.

Just need to keep it up second half now.

We have to catch up and take over a team if not 2 above us if we are going to finish inside the play offs. It's definitely doable, I havent looked at the remaining games of others but feel we need catch Notts County and/or Chesterfield as I think Boreham Wood will do just enough in the extra games they have to scrape into the play offs.

Still a long way to go. Looking at the table it's still worrying with the teams behind us having games in hand. Hopefully by next Saturday they'll have lost/drew in midweek and lost whilst we win at the weekend to ease my anxiety 😂

Hopefully their fixture congestion starts to take it's toll and they lose to lower teams fighting for their life.

Impressive performance this. Chesterfield aren’t in form but they’re not losing many, mainly picking up draws. They’re certainly no mugs so to bang in 4 is a real statement of intent.

Good win against a team above us. It shows what we can do when we turn it on. Also we shouldn't forget the magnificent fans who gave it all. Well done to all.

Potentially confirmed next game then isnt it?

What can you say about that, we did everything we'd been wishing we had been doing, best game of the season. Hursts late squad additions have all been brilliant and exactly whats been needed. Got nothing to fear going into the playoffs wherever we finish, just need to show consistency till the end of the season

Be interested to hear how Joey Jones did. Suddenly feels like we've got some real depth there with him and Holohan coming in and Fox back.

Both JT and Crofty said Joey Jones did very well

JT getting over-excited.  Commented that Chesterfield fans started leaving the pitch after Taylor scored,

Hitting form at just the right time.  A statement of intent today.  As others said, no fear with playing away in the playoffs.  If we get there.

Superb sharp-shooting today was like Alias Smith and Jones.  Apologies to our players of those names.  Linked to TV series in the 1970s, a spin-off of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Well done to all Town fans today, listened on the web today! Thought JT was going to ...

Looks like our form is coming good at the right time.

Looking at fixtures, other than Stockport at home I struggle to see where we'll drop a point!

Squad now looking very strong, and the latest midfield partnership seems to have the right balance straight away according to the commentators.

A continued good run in needed and Hurst will take it one game at a time while quietly chuckling at his detractors as his signings hopefully become more shrewd each week.

Having most of the squad fully fit now obviously helps and many will be striving to play for new contracts next season.

Every chance of staying in the top 7, and with the magnificent away support will make sure that a 12th man is always there for them.

Good weekend has started with this win - thanks Town !!

Brilliant.

I said last week we could just be peaking at the right time. Timing is everything.

Really uplifting. Hope we finish the season like we started. JJ looks a great acquisition from the comments of those who went.
Posted by: mimma, April 2, 2022, 5:34pm; Reply: 177
Are we replicating the form at the beginning of the season to finish with a flourish?

Hope so!

Bet Cropper enjoyed that game.

I'm often quick to criticise but that was a superb performance ! Why can't we play like that all the time ?

As supporters that's all we ask,

Once again well done Town.

On that performance we would be happy finishing the season in 7th spot if Chesterfield finish 4th. No fear
Posted by: ginnywings, April 2, 2022, 6:34pm; Reply: 181
Just seen Brentford won 1-4 at Chelsea as well and also came back from a goal down.

Seems so unreal the direction them and us have gone in since the days we played them fairly regularly.
