No Towler, Soussa or Bapaga in the squad. I,ll make the ice cubes for the meltdown thread tonight. Two wingers on the subs bench, who wont be used until after 65 minutes, so i guess its gonna be the long ball to Taylor , where we lose possession, it dont look good to me im afraid, hope im proved wrong.

If I were chesterfield looking at that, I’d think we’re playing a team very afraid of us. Let’s see how it goes, but the positive hurst from the beginning of the season is a distant memory

Bapaga just odd. He was finding form.

Didnt know that Hagrid about Soussa, i just cant see our attacking options, as our midfield will be very busy with Chesterfields attacks, and cant see them helping Taylor much.

It can be quite an attacking way to play if coached that way

But will it be coached that way

Half time at  0 - 0 is a good performance so far. All we need now is for a Town goal in the opening of the 2nd half to set us up for a win.

Both cancelling each other out at the moment, max made 9ne good save that's all his had to do really.
Posted by: Maringer, December 11, 2021, 4:03pm; Reply: 37
First ten and last 10 minutes of the half they were on top without creating much. Pearson made a mistake with a header near the end which led to their only chance which Crocombe saved well. The middle part of the half, we were more of a threat though mostly on the break as we're not getting any settled possession at all. Clifton should have done better with his header, I think. Tried to put too much on it instead of placing it, not that it was all that easy. Have to hit the target there, I think. Bell has done quite well feeding off scraps, Taylor not getting enough of the ball because the gap between the forwards and midfield is too big.

Chesterfield look an efficient team. Big and strong at the back, a bit of ability here and there and well-drilled. Lots of falling over, and inching (yarding?) forwards from free-kicks. We look like we'd settle for a point now.

An OK performance defensively, but we look a shadow of the team from earlier this season.

Couldn’t make it today, and relying on radio commentary. I read that Chesterfield were launching their own station, 1866 Radio, today so I thought I’d give it a go. The coverage has been first class. The lead commentator really knows his stuff, and is not at all partisan in his comments. Rare quality for local radio.

Could just as easily been a sneaky 1-0 to Town if only Hurst had done his usual 70th minute substitution by going 4 at the back and got another striker on. He was playing it safe as usual hoping to hang on to what he'd got. (A 0-0 against Chesterfield would presumably been a fantastic result in his eyes)

Well playing safe hasn't got us anywhere recently, he's be no worse off if he went for it occasionally

To be fair to whoever - in response to your second point - it'd be strange to moan about a side that is in the midst of a beginning to a season that ultimately read W10-D2-L1...whatever your longer-term view on the manager/boardroom/players.

Just as it would be unusual, perhaps even unjust, not to have people criticising a side/manager that has lost 6 from 7, is not scoring and is not playing well. (the only victory was an abject one against a bottom of table side, at home, else we could be 7/7 defeats)

Tashimango ( haven’t a clue how to spell it) cost £250k, Hurst said he’d looked at him but no way we were paying that amount, under Fenty or the new guys. Then Hurst asked how a club in financial trouble not long ago with no obvious new money coming in could afford to spend that amount.maybe questions to ask.

Can't say I heard any boos from the Upper Findus. Perhaps just not in my area?

We played OK against a strong team who were allowed to bully us by the referee. They were marginally the better team, I'd say, but definitely deserved a point. That said, our passing wasn't good enough today and the options on the bench didn't look strong enough.

A silly free-kick for Longe-King to give away which led to the goal, but you can't allow the league's top scorer to be unmarked there. Who was supposed to be watching him?

Terrible miss by Crookes at the end but I suppose that's why he's a defender.

The bad run continues with yet another game we shouldn't really have lost.

Good strikers find space; that's why they are good. Happens at every level.

He's a difference maker and today he was the difference. We fluffed our chances, he didn't. We deserved a draw but alas...

When we won all those games, people were talking promotion and now they are talking relegation. The truth is somewhere in between. Get some new blood in Jan and we can still have a good second half of the season and make the play offs.

Page one, 2nd thread, told you all. You dont defend at home, whoever you play. Hurst has lost the players i reckon, no confidence after last 6 games, its the same story from 6 years ago im afraid, something is amiss with the players, too much youtube and Hursty promising and hiding things, time for a change, no good living in the past, bring on the crosses.

We didn't test their keeper but we still missed two absolute sitters that were harder to miss the target from entirely than score. No strength in depth in this squad, and that's ultimately down to Hurst's awful recruitment. Chesterfield have had loads of apparent first team players missing all season, but it's not mattered because they've signed capable backups and most importantly, an actual goalscorer. Meanwhile we brought on LJL to contribute absolutely nothing yet again.

I mean he was on for what 8 minutes and all we did- as we did to Taylor and bell- is boot the ball up to them and expect them to chase or flick it on to no-one

Missing the technical ability of Hunt and Mcatee today as a lot of balls were long/high balls. We had a really good spell where Chesterfield apparently ran out of ideas and we were playing good football on the deck and got some chances. Ref was flipping awful and gave Chesterfield everything and us very little. Tshimanga had a very quiet game up until his goal. Heard the booing at the end of the game and dont agree with it. Yes its a bad run but we have to back the lads to turn it around. UTMM

Wrexham average?

They was when we played them

Chesterfield took the plunge in splashing out on Tshimanga and I am thinking they are most probably going up because of it.  He is a goal machine at this level and in tight games turns one point into three. And when they come to sell him they will make a small fortune. It was a shrewd investment. One we were not bold enough to take on.

All is not lost for us. We are sill in the hunt for a play off spot. If we can recapture the form from earlier in the season there is no reason why we can't make it into the top seven which, let's face it, most of us would have taken at the start of the season.

Yes at that point they were, in fact compared to some they currently still are

We built up Wrexham to be better than they were because of how much they spent In fact they were no better than us and still aren't. Unlike a number of other.sides, we imagined we were world beaters, we weren't and we aren't and it will be a lot less painful when we admit it

Absolutely rubbish negative Hurst strikes again.
Going nowhere fast with Mr Charisma of garden worm!
Why does the new Chairman not see this.

I just got the impression listening to JT that they were there for the taking (with an undeserved 1-0 just like they did to us) Certainly they were no great shakes and weren't despite a £250000 striker going to smash us out of sight.

Hurst was simply too negative, too defensive, afraid to lose if you like (which is probably understandable given recent results) but once again he either didn't have the balls or simply wasn't bright enough to see that they were no better than us and if he had introduced another front man at around his favorite 70th minute we could well have nicked it.

Instead he saw the chance of a creditable 0-0 and tried to hang on

For his sake I hope he makes a better job of hanging onto his job, three or four more defeats down the line. Grow a pair for felicitations sake, you really have not nowt to lose any more

Nice post Ron but going on current form we've no chance of recreating that form, Hurst won't let it happen. The players have been shackled and he's gone negative.

This is the thing I don’t get. We (rightly or wrongly) gave hurst another crack at management after his frankly disastrous spells elsewhere and (whether he can be held responsible or not) he signs a brand new team and takes us in to the relegation zone and then down. We (rightly or wrongly) stick with him and he must know this season is his last shot at being a professional footballer manager but despite a competitive budget, record attendances and a feel good factor not seen for decades he seems to be aiming not to lose home games rather than winning them.

Let's face facts, he's built a new squad of definitive better quality than last year that set off like a house on fire then somehow he's hit the brakes and reverted to type, that don't lose at all costs type.
We all know we have players that can play decent football, can score goals and I have no doubt, if we'd have played that Chesterfield team 10 games ago we'd have won.
Hurst has cocked things right up, he had a chance to put all his recent managerial wrongs right, but he's failing and failing bad imo now

Can’t disagree with any of that.
Stockwood stated in the Telegraph this week he new Hurst was the right man for the job as he shared the same values and vision. Not the best manager to get the best results, but because he shared the same values and vision. If it was a footballing decision Stockwood would have looked at Hursts recent form at Ipswich and Scunthorpe and politely declined. This is what concerns me about Stockwood. He’s all about the big sky stuff. As a simpleton I’m just about balls in the back of the net.

Close the door on your way out Hurst!
Take your negativity to another poor unsuspecting club.
I am all bored out by you!

Having a go at LJL seems a bit unnecessary as we barely got the ball out of our half after he came on as they successfully pinned us back following the goal. Though there is no doubt that Taylor is a superior player, it might have been a game where LJL could have achieved a bit more due to his bulk - their defenders might not have been able to get away with bullying and manhandling him as they did with Taylor.

The key difference between the sides for me today was the relative lack of pace of our team. A tight match where our defence won most of the balls into them, but they were able to pick up a lot more of the second balls due to the extra pace in midfield. Neither Clifton or Fox is quick (though not slow, either), but Coke is a little lacking. No real pace in our defence either. Most of their midfielders and forwards were quicker than they men they were facing. Pace is something I thought we were lacking at the start of the season (always seems to have been the case with Hurst's teams!) and I think we saw the difference it can make today. Noticeable that the gangly lad who came on for them and won the free-kick which led to the goal was pretty quick which I expect is why Longe-King went into him so clumsily.

That was certainly the impression that the commentary team gave.

He let them get away with a lot of manhandling of players, that's for sure. Taylor getting dragged around everywhere and he missed loads of pushes and shoves off the ball. On the other hand, they fell over. A lot. I'm guessing the free-kick count reflects this?

The manager set up for a point at home, not good that and we didn’t even get the f*****g point.

Though the players worked hard many of them have to do better than they did today.

They’ll go up and potentially win the league, they reminded me of the Cheltenham side that went up with us in 2016.
