Friends,

Am moving across the pond in January, are there any town fans in LA?

Don’t live there, but I’ll be over for work quite a bit next year provided the US borders remain open. Office is a couple of miles east of Beverley Hills, between Miracle Mile and La Brea.

Feel free to show me somewhere that sells decent beer once you’ve got your bearings. Big old city, innit?

Try the Mexican beers, Dos Equis. If you like dark beer try Negra Modelo - not bad?

That's a great shout on the Negra Model actually. Had a holiday in Cancun shortly before the world shat its pants and that was one of the two 'house beers' available and it was excellent. Never had it before or since, but it was very nice.

There's a few things I like about the States; paying $12 for a Miller Lite isn't one of them.

Then don't pay it, it tastes like knat's urine

Oh, I don't. Instead I usually end up paying $16 for a Lagunitas or Sierra Nevada. The beer tastes better but I still slightly resent the price.

My favourite Armenian (Mini Kabob) in LA (well, Glendale) hasn’t survived the pandemic. It only had 3 tables. I once spent the whole meal trying to explain to the owner’s son the English football pyramid and why I supported a team in the fourth tier.

Even down to re-creating Nathan Arnold’s play-off clincher out of hummus and chicken thigh shish (the chicken took the sting out of Hoban’s blocked falafel shot).

There’s loads of good quality, cheap Armenian hole-in-the-walls in Glendale and Little Armenia.

Although you can’t go to LA without going to In-N-Out Burger.

Surely you used an olive for the ball. Or was the falafel Hoban?

It was a Fenty-era misshapen falafel ball. Olives are too spherical. You know that.

Hoban was the chewed up flatbread.

Who the hell pays $12  for Miller Lite, unless your buying a case, and then your overpaying! 8)

My cousins live there.  We could get them to start up an LA branch.  They're half Iranian though and only been to Gy once.  Her old man studied at Gy college and he loved the place , so he would be up for it. :)

Genuine question - do people call it Iranian food nowadays, or is it still ok to describe it as Persian?

That description of how the World reacted made me laugh somewhat!

As for LA, never been personally, but I recently went to the Parkway cinema in Cleethorpes to watch a one-off enhanced showing of The Doors playing at the Hollywood Bowl in 1968. I googled the venue and wow, what an incredible music venue that must be - 18,000 seat outdoor amphitheater, it looks amazing. Any decent bands playing here, definitely go for it I reckon, Sutton.

They are happy to be called Persian.  Never call an Iranian an arab. They go mad.

Don't know about town fans living there but there are a few Wrexham ones who work there.

Use your charm on some big names to become investors in Grimsby Town FC.   8)
