Devastated to hear he's had a reoccurrince of his injury, love to watch him when he's firing on all cylinders but getting seriously concerned that his body is letting him down before he's had a real chance to make it in the full time professional game..

Pulled out this morning after travelling according to PH interview.

Gutted for him……
When he was on loan at Boston he was on fire…..so something drastic has changed for the lad?
Does anyone know what the injury is?

I’m not a medical expert but I think it’s to do with the ability of his frame to cope with the muscle development needed.

It's his quad, Hurst did once intimate that he was baffled by it...it's awful for the lad though, so much talent but it appears his legs just can't keep up .. heartbreaking really..

A real shame. Has loads of potential and clearly has the raw attributes to be a really good player for us. Some players sadly, despite the hunger, work-ethic and talent, are just let down by their bodies.

I believe somebody posted on here that Max Wright may suffer from Hypermobility, I'm not one who wishes to speculate on somebody's health but it would certainly make sense and go some way to explaining all the injuries.

This is quite a sensible suggestion Davec.  . Hypermobility  or  E.D.S. can cause all sorts of problems in the joints and can eventually lead to arthritis although the joints can stiffen with age to make them more stable. but sitting in the same position  ( eg on a coach ) can be detrimental. Light exercise after coach journey can be beneficial to sportsmen.    Dr  Golfer Bs Hio Fcp

Gutted for him. He can't get a run of games and none of it is his fault. Let's hope has a bit more luck although it appears to be more than just a case of misfortune. He'll know himself with his contract up in June that this is a pivotal season for him.

He could have been a very good player for us or maby further up the ladder if he could get and keep fit for more than one game , But am afraid that does not look like it is going to happen  . We like all clubs need players on the pitch not the treatment table . I think this will be his last season as a pro footballer as sadley it cannot just keep going on as it is . Not only for the club but for him as he will end up nearly crippled in some form  :(

Bit early to be writing the kid off as a pro footballer don't you think?

From what I have seen he has been really good when he has played. Probably just needs a bit of body development and looking after to get him to where he needs to be.

When he has played* but doesnt and cant play enough

Max is a great lad, and we all want him to be in and around the squad but im really not sure the club can do anymore for him if your body isnt up to it

There comes a point when a club has to decide if offering a new deal is worthwhile. He's 23 his body isn't going to develop more than it has, have to stop treating him like he's still an 18 year old making his first few appearances. He's not a kid. Same thing happened to Sean Scannell, he got injured when he was 18 and has never been able to shake off injury problems since. He's now on the treatment table at a non league club when he'd be in the championship or a league 1 star if he was fully fit. Max has talent but eventually you're not getting anything from keeping him on and have to move him on, can see him falling into part time football in the future because clearly full time in the pro game is making his injury issues worse.

Didn't realise he was that old, as he looks younger. Yes you may have a point then.

He's 24 in April of next year, yet has made less than 50 appearances for us.

Harry Clifton is two months younger and is nearing 150 appearances.

This is probably even more damning...since the start of the 20/21 season, Wright's played 141 minutes less than Sean Scannell for us.

Genuinely feel for the lad as it's blatantly obvious that he wants it so badly. But get the distinct impression Hurst is losing patience with him, even hinting in recent interviews that he just can't rely on him.

This.

We (sort of) have 4 wide players;  Scannell hasn't been available at all,   Wright has barely been available,  Sousa is unproven at this level, so is a project,  Grant; sort of a wide player, has just returned from injury.   Good job Clifton has filled in so well, so otherwise = ?!?!?

Can’t fault the lad and has always had the support of fans but I also wonder if the patience has lasted longer because he’s ‘one of our own’ so to speak?

I don’t blame him, he can’t help it and perhaps of town weren’t a dog and duck team and he was higher up the pyramid they’d have access to better medical facilities etc but perhaps he’s just never gonna be fully fit.

Shame really as I think he’s have an impact this season…

But didn't he have a good run of games while out on loan to Boston?

Surely with proper strength and conditioning coaching, and possibly some specialist help, his fitness can be improved.

He is a fine player when fit and it would be a shame for him and us to give up on him,

There is a romance in football to the idea of the local lad who becomes a star player for his team that supporters tend to cling to, if he wasn't local then people would have been calling for him to be let go ages ago. Not even sure if medical facilities would make a difference at this point, he seems like one of those players who will always have issues staying fit.

Yes he really was a class above at Boston. Playing week in, week out on terrible pitches and the best player on the pitch every week. He was literally dodging two footed tackles and I was so excited to see how he would do for us the following season.

It really is a shame to see what is happening with Max because he's certainly got plenty of talent.

How was he training while at Boston that could explain why his current problems now exist , but did not while he was away?

I'm sure they still train full-time with us when we send them out on loan. They may actually train more because they often train once or twice a week in an evening at the other club too.

In this weeks interview Hurst said Max was running ok, as indeed he was before the Kiddie game when he was scheduled to play till he "felt something. "

We all have things that aren't 100% but still go to work.  Would playing through it be a possibility? It can't be that serious as he keeps returning to training.

Of course you have all the usual caveats that a top level athlete likes to be confident he is 100% but he wont be a pro footballer much longer unless he can find a solution.

Totally different thing from going into work feeling off colour.

We can afford to pay his wages whilst he gets back to full fitness when you think about the extra income generated by the great displays this season, part of which he was involved in.
His goal against Wrexham shows what he's capable of.
If you look after your employees they tend to repay you with loyalty and better performance.
Also you get a good reputation for future signings.
I'd give him this season and go from there.

Yes I heard that but nonetheless he was back running and seemed ok a few days later.

Is what he is feeling bad enough to stop him trying to play through it is the point I am making.

I am a big fan of his ability but we wont be able to keep a player that is not on the field regularly enough which would be a crying shame.

I’m a big fan of the Undr The Cosh podcasts and almost every single player on there says they played most of their careers with some kind of injury. Stewart Downing said last week that Sturridge used to pull out if he ever felt anything which is why he’s deemed as ‘injury prone’.

I’ve no doubt Max has the desire but surely ‘feeling something’ isn’t a reason in itself to pull out. At some point he’s going to need to risk things or he’ll be without a club in the summer which would be a crying shame.

Rugby players keep muscles flexible and warmed up with exercise bikes at pitchside.

Does he need to have leg warmers or similar when sat in the dugout, and a repeat touchline warm up at set periods during the game to avoid cramp or overtightness?

I saw an interview with Paul Merson years ago where he said he only played about 20 games in his career where he felt good. Most games there's a niggle or something and you just have to play through it.
