Clifton (assume injured? Hopefully not too bad) and Hunt drop out for Coke and Sousa. Very attacking 11!

Think the Clifton thing is fatigue, understandable. What formation are we playing?
Posted by: MarinerDevil, October 26, 2021, 6:51pm; Reply: 2
Hurst mentioned that Clifton had felt his hip after Saturday so hopefully just a precaution ahead of Notts.

No Taylor, Efete or Longe-King, so still no definitive answer on which two have Covid.

Good to see us fully utilising our threat from our wide players.  Hopefully we start fast tonight.

Hurst mentioned in the Yeovil post match interview that it was more than 2 with covid. I'd guess DLK is the 3rd.

Those coming in will take their chance to do a good job - a strong bench this season, even with the Covid absences.

Let's hope that the chances for the additions will create, make or score goals !

Two of Wealdstone’s better players out through injury this evening in Alex Dyer and Charlie Cooper. A young lad makes his full debut as a replacement. No easy games etc but this is the kind of scenario we need to be taking 3 points from if we want to win the league.

I thought Hurst was very keen to state that 3 players were out, which I interpreted as him trying to keep the opposition guessing.  You could be right though.

I think Hunt catapults us from 6-7th to chasing the title. He had an off game on Saturday which is fine because he’ll be back. Hopefully get him on sooner rather than later because I don’t like the idea of Fox with Coke.

Taylor obviously a big miss too but I think we can turn this around still with 1 change (Hunt for Coke).

It certainly seems as so we are missing Hunt and Clifton in midfield, I don't think Fox and Coke can play together.

There was a lot of love-in for Coke last season and I’m not sure I saw it at the time.

Clifton and Hunt are ahead of him IMO and I really don’t like the idea of Coke in a midfield 2.

No doubt there’s a place for him but Wealdstones first choice CM’s are both out, absolutely no excuse for being overrun.

Saw the goal on BT when the ball was cleared to the edge of the box we did not haver a player anywhere near closing him down, must have had 10 yards of empty space in front of him at 20 yrds out.  >:(  Good strike, was a goal the moment it left his foot. Last season Coke was a good player in a poor team. Hurst has significantly upgraded the squad over the summer, and I’m not convinced he has the legs to keep up with the quicker tempo we are playing this season. He remains an important part of the squad, but Hunt and Fox look our best two in the middle.

Gone back to his habit of waiting and waiting to make subs and then they come on for 5 minutes when they can't be effective. Hunt on to take set pieces would have been more effective as we won a bunch of corners and free kicks.

Very disappointing result that. We’ve looked out of sorts in the past two games and it’s directly linked to Taylor being out IMO.

I’m still staunchly in the ‘we need a striker’ camp and these last two games haven’t changed that. Just because goals come from all over the pitch doesn’t mean we just go without ample back-up. It’s obvious Taylor’s link up play aides those goals and LJL isn’t on his level.

Big error to not play 3 in midfield tonight IMO. Onto Saturday and a huge game.

They'll be more nights and day like this against teams that want to knock over the big boys of this league.

Only one team turned up tonight and it wasn't us. Wealdstone were up for it against a side viewed as much bigger than them and deserved to win, Town seemed sluggish from the start and Coke + Fox too similar to work together. Would have liked to have seen subs 10 minutes earlier than we did and a bit more desire to grab a point but it seemed both team and manager settled on this being a loss.

One loss doesn't decide our season so just chalk this one off to fatigue in the team and a lot of first team players being out of the picture for various reasons. Hopefully we can get a few people back in the mix for the next game. Sometimes have to take the L and say the other team wanted it more.

The boys sounded tired tonight, couldn't break Wealdstone down and struggled to put any pressure on their back line.
Have to say also, Coke n Fox doesn't work.

Hopefully get hunt back in and Clifton too, them two make the midfield a lot more dynamic which has been key to our success this season. Obviously Taylor a big loss too, but it feels like we simply didn’t have the runners from midfield tonight.

Give the players a couple of days off as they sounded tired tonight.

Start again with a win against County and get another unbeaten run going.

And if the parasitic ex owner wasn’t still scamming cash then it could’ve worked…

Although, not really working for Stockport and Wrexham at the minute.

Not good by any means but looking at the other results have not been too bad, apart from Chesterfield and Boreham Wood. Altringham, Daggers, Wrexham, Woking, and Stockport all lost. Notts Cty only managed a draw in there home game so all in all these results have gone our way.

No, that’s true. If you’d offered me 9 wins from the first 13 games, I’d have ripped your hand off. But we’ve been getting excited about winning as champions and that can only happen if you are relentless. I don’t think that’s us.

Ive been hugely surprised so far this season, and tonight IS a knee-jerk reaction, for sure, but Wealdstone? Honestly, how?

Tough game on Saturday with a 2nd-string striker and no number 10 in a 4-2-3-1. I have my fingers crossed, but not hopeful.

Not been at it the last two games and I think there is a bit of an illness issue in the camp, making us a bit sluggish. Quick turnaround of games too doesn't help when you are not at your best.

Top of the league and there to be shot at.

Was hoping for at least a point to take us to the 30 mark, but we are still top and still in a better position than I thought we would be when the season started.

All the leading contenders will lose games to mid table sides if they aren't at their best on the day. Can't win 'em all.

I’m never hopeful, I’ve been a town fan too long…even at 5-0 at half time against Dover I panicked…

We’ll get over it, I genuinely think this team can deal with adversity and we will get the win…

Apart from Chesterfield and Boreham Wood nearly all our rivals lost tonight (Wrexham, Stockport, Dagenham & Redbridge, Altrincham and Woking).   Notts County and Bromley both drop 2 points.

19 points dropped by rivals.

We are still 13 points clear of Wrexham.

We are still top.  We live to fight another day.  We need to be better - and we need key players back fit and healthy. ASAP.

We could have maintained the four point gap - that’s how.

Also - I know it’s early days but in those early days we are 13pts clear of Wrexham. Are they really rivals now?

We're calling the Notts Cty. game as a big game but when you look at their results in October they have played 7 and won only 3, 1 being an FA cup replay against Tamworth. 7 points out of 15 in the league.

We've played 6 and won 5 games. 12 points out of 15 in the league. I'm pleased I'm a Town fan looking at that because if I was a Notts fan it doesn't make good reading. That said with our injury/covid problems it's still not going to be an easy game on Saturday.

with hindsight he would possibly have been a better option than Coke, but it was never going to happen in reality. Certainly i would've put Hunt and Revan on after the first ten minutes of the second half when it turned into a defence v attack game. With the best goal difference in the division a 2-0 defeat would have made no difference, so why not go for it?

ps really missed efete as well

pps towler had another superb game , especially when he and Waterfall were up against the very difficult Umera and his equally effective partner on the pitch, Rob Massey-Ellis.

ppps could anyone else work out why Mr Massey-Ellis was decked out in black, when the rest of his team mates were playing in blue?

How on earth has the telegraph bloke given Bapaga & John-Lewis 6/10 for last night’s match when he’s handed out 5s to Waterfall, Towler, Sousa & Coke. Bapaga was terrible especially positionally and i don’t know where you start with LJL’s “performance”.

I thought we were pretty solid from a back four perspective, but they had little to no protection from Coke or Fox. And why Coke feels the need to constantly drop back to within 5 yards of Waterfall or Towler to receive the ball and then play a simple pass to either Sears or Crookes that Waterfall or Towler could have easily made themselves is anyone’s guess.

And where do you start with Bapaga? I can’t remember seeing such an inept performance from a left winger- he didn’t offer anything defensively or attack-wise. He didn’t give Crookes any option but to lump the ball forward for LJL by not offering himself in a good position. He (Bapaga) was slightly better when he switched to the right and then centre. We missed Clifton’s high energy & workrate & replaced him with Bapaga who was lazy (or tired of I’m being generous) last night.

And LJL… not his night if we’re being kind. Really he needs to be our 3rd choice. He should be the one thrown on up front in the last few minutes and not Luke Waterfall. Waterfall won 2 knock-downs and on neither occasion did LJL or Bapaga anticipate it and the ball just ran through to the goalkeeper.

Ratings…
7 - McKeown.
6s - Sears, Waterfall, Towler, Crookes.
5s - Sousa, Fox & McAtee.
4s - Coke & John-Lewis.
3 - Bapaga.

That is a fair point,  no matter what game it is alwase play your strongest side especially if it has a winning mentality, Except for injurys that is but proper injurys not   made up ones or they are tired .. Pro footballers should be able to play 2 games a week  if they are fit . If not get them fitter

I was impressed with their centre forward.

Is it unrealistic to get the cheque book out and bid for someone already doing the business in the NL? If you include scouting games, Hurst and Doig must have seen over 40 strikers this season. Surely one could be prized away with a decent bid. Especially if they are part time.

The same thought occurred to me today. Not that it was all a choice, what with Covid and injuries. It struck me I was using hindsight too - weren’t we all chuffed that our B-team thrashed Bromsgrove?

All said, it could have disrupted things a bit.
