In the last 10 years cup aside am I right in thinking Doncaster then Bradford would be the two largest and what where those numbers?
I am expecting if we get the allocation around 4K will travel to Halifax on Boxing Day.

Donny’s the biggest I can recall in the league in the last decade, although we took a similar amount (around 4K) to Notts County not long before.

Could we take 4K to Halifax? Quite possibly, if we’re still going strong. I believe they usually allocate half the old side stand to away teams, but in my experience we’ve always been given the large terrace behind the goal. That holds around 2,700, so if they gave us both we’d be in that ballpark.

Trouble is, Halifax’s home crowds are only scraping 2,000 this season, even though they’re doing well. Even if you allowed for a 50% increase (which is pretty big) with it being a big game and on Boxing Day, they’d still be significantly outnumbered (and as a general rule, away crowds tend to be more vociferous than home crowds, pound for pound).

Would they want that in what could be a massive game for them? I’m not sure. It would be great from a Town perspective though.

They did in the late 80s when we took about 2200 in a gate of about 2500! Maybe exaggerating a little but that’s what it felt like.

Wasn't that the opening day of the 2015/16 operation promotion season? - I seem to remember reading we had more away supporters at that opening game than all the other away sides in our division put together! I hope that's true as it's always amused me!

Yes of course it was mate. I knew it was the first away game of a season. How could I forget Dembele was a Slade masterstroke and was on fire that day. I can't remember anything about the season in League 1 we must have had.

Halifax was one of many mad away days of that era. Remember a fair few just climbing over the turnstile to get in so I suspect it may well of had a modernisation since. The burger van incident and a walk back into the Town centre with a police car steaming past with a traffic cone hanging out the back window if I remember right.

I was at that Hull match and travelled on one of the special trains. We we were on our way to win the league and when that equaliser went in I’ve never heard town make so much noise away.
“ We’re gonna win the league” was belted out big time by every fan young and old. Just brilliant. Icing on the cake was taking a point at arch rivals Hull.

So does anyone know what allocation Halifax will give us then ?

Easter Saturday of the 79/80 championship season Barnsley away .Looking at the books total crowd was 16500 probably half us. I also remember Lincoln away in the Mcmenemy championship year when they had the huge terrace down one side of pitch. Book says total attendance 15000 so again probably at least half us, not a happy day trounced 3-0 still queuing when first went in

We were already up that night - Barnsley weren’t.

We definitely didn’t have 8k at Barnsley the following year. More like 5k. Not sure about Lincoln in 71/72 either - Lincoln also doing well so would have expected a big turnout from them. Before my time for away games so perhaps one of the veterans on here that went will confirm.

I was at the Lincoln game in 71/2 . We had the side open terrace which is now the Co op stand. i believe Super Harry Wainman saved a penalty too if my memory is correct

They reckon the away end at Oakwell hold 6000 still now so I’d guess it held a lot more when it was standing .

How many did you take to either of the Sheffield clubs back in the 80/90's Micky?

Imps took 3,200 to Hillsborough (full allocation) with 100 or so young un's being kettled and sent back home on the train (with tickets) for singing too raucously in a town centre pub before kick-off. Only the upper seats of the Leppings Lane were used incidentally.  

I didn't attend due to continual ill-health, but a considerable increase on the 700 or so that went on our last visit in the FA Cup back in 1979.

Lincoln fans really have a navigation problem don’t they. They used to find their way to Mansfield Peterborough and Boston in thousands but would get lost on the way to Cleethorpes. And now 2,900 of them seem to have got lost on the way to Wigan last night…

Cheap shot I'll admit - but when I saw the crowd and away fan numbers I had to look twice - 302 - surely that's 802 or 502...Great result though.

I really don't like these part-time teams from wealthy London areas, that seem to excel in occasionally roughing up the northern "big clubs" - Wrexham bloodied again down there as well as us last night...

An equally cheap shot in return ... how do you explain 7k at Hillsborough, followed by just 4,197 in the 2nd Tier at BP v Port Vale, you can hardly blame Fenty for that?  ;)

If its any consolation I went to Wealdstone's old Lower Mead Stadium back in 87' for a dreadful 0-0 draw played in thick fog.

I remember 1 game v Port Vale in the 2nd tier when the gate was less than 3500!

The stayaways missed a treat though as it was probably our best performance that season and we won 4-1.

My memory of that 7-1 game at Wednesday has gone a bit haywire over the resulting years since. I always thought that we were 7 nil down when Oster scored that goal, I didn't realise it was "only" 5 nil when he scored.
