No Sousa, Effete or Wright

Any ideas who will be on the right hand sides as we are going to be without what’s been our biggest threat this season

I'd guess Revan on the left and Bapaga on the right, or maybe clifton one the right and bapaga on the left.

Well Wright is never fit. sears at right back.

Taylor for Sousa too much of a change to the game plan. Bapaga to the right and either Clifton or Revan on the left would have given more balance.

I think there will be a new striker in for Saturday too, judging by what PH has said

You really don’t like Max do you? I get your overall point and you’re right but you never miss an opportunity to stick the knife in do you?

Actually on Sears, has he played a minute yet? Or even been on the bench? Is he fit?

Not offended mate and like I said I agree with you. Just don’t feel the need to mention it at any given opportunity.

Thought Bapaga looked better on the right 2nd half against Eastleigh tbf than he had on the left

He may go three at the back. Bring in Pearson and have two wing backs. Crookes and Clifton could do a job there.

Playing bottom of the league, it wouldn't be a massive risk.

Biggest concern is right back, Sears surely cant be considered as he has not played any football since the rotherham game.

I think Clifton will have to go right back which will be to the detriment of our midfield and then bapaga on the wing.

I'm not concerned about the Dover game (we would probably beat them if we fielded a  Holloway XI) but I am concerned about the next two games. Woking won't be easy judging by their performance last night

It looks like we might be without the two  players (together perhaps with McAtee) that have contributed the most to our great start. Just hope Sousa's injury isn't serious and he's only out for next Saturday IMO he's absolutely outstanding

Agree with this possibility, though crooks isn't best suited as a wing back in my opinion and Revan would give a better attacking threat in that role.

Sears is our backup RB. Revan is either footed I believe and Clifton can do a job there too.

In terms of wingers you've also got Clifton as an option, Revan has played there and Bapaga. Scannell will probably be on the bench and McAtee could also fill in there.

With Efete put for 3 games I assume, there is also the loan market if Sears isn't deemed fit enough yet.

It's a squad game and sometimes, due to a bit of bad luck you have to put a few square pegs in round holes.

Not sure what the fuss is about re the team, we regularly play with one proper winger in Sousa and McAtee roaming about the other side with Crookes overlapping.

We also have a backup RB with Clifton able to play there as well.

On top of that, nobody knows if Sousa might even be fit anyway.

Dover haven't won a game yet but seem like they're getting harder to beat - only conceded 2 in their last 3 games. People might need to be patient and stick with them on Saturday as seems some think it should be a guaranteed 3 points juat for turning up.

Agree with this  - be careful boys& girls.
Although things are greatly improved , we have all been down this road many times - there are no games that can be taken for granted in tis league.
With our fantastic following we will doubtless have all the posession & they will park the bus.
There again I could be wrong & we'll get 6. That would be nice.

Reads like they're parking the bus, 1 keeper & 10 players on the goal line. Definite win but as you say we may have to be more patient than we think.

Think we need to get a reality check fellas. We are getting too big for our boots, and football has a habit of bringing you back down to earth. If the players take the same attitude you are, then this game has got "upset" written all over it. If god forbid,  they take the lead, then the atmosphere can quickly  go toxic and players start to panic. Patience is the key.

The worry for me is not so much the Dover game, but the games after that.

If we go into those without Efete and Sousa, we are very much diminished. Our right hand side has been the best feature of the team in an attacking sense so far this season.

It's galling that both players were physically assaulted on the pitch by the sound of things, but we were the ones who got punished in more ways than one.

To be honest, it's not been like that this season. I think that most fans now believe we can still win a game if we go behind.

I'm with you Les. Listening to last night on the radio all I heard was the Town fans cheering on the team, in the rain.

Nothing toxic could be heard over the radio, so why should the subject be mentioned? First defeat in 8, were going to lose some games and given the massive advantage, Bromley have playing on that pitch for half their games, they will probably win many home games. I believe that's what happened with Sutton last year.

Let's get behind the Team for the Dover game, and ignore such negative comments.

I suppose if we have a winless run, and that is quite conceivable, things might begin to turn. But judging by the reception the team got at the end of the match last night, despite the result and the miserable soaking we got, there’s a LOT of credit in the Bank of Patience.

(You could say there was plenty of liquidity 😉)

We need to find a way. Suspensions, injuries, loss of form....this is why we have twenty odd players. Not trying to stir any kind of argument, but is Wright unavailable?

Not saying that a player like vernham wouldn’t be welcome, but his skills are more suited to a counter attacking style of football and not sure we will be doing much of that against Dover.

We already have a Vernham type player in Macatee, only Macatee is more consistent, fitter and more skillful, would never swap Macatee for Vernham...

Who's Vernham? Or Macatee, for that matter.  :P

I think they are totally different types of player. Vernam more an out and out winger/dribbler who runs with the ball whereas McAtee is more of a playmaker who is capable of scoring as well as putting the passes through. I'd be happy if we had both of them playing for us! Once he found his feet and his fitness with us, Vernam was a real threat and he'd have fitted in well in our 4-3-3 playing out on the left. Certainly more effective in attack than Clifton or Bapaga who have both played out on that side this season. Not our player, though. Can we clone Sousa and get a left-sided copy of him?

Ha ha Efete has been really good and even chipped in with a couple of goals.

Hope Hurst realises we have to play Hunt now unless he is injured or absolutely too unfit to play. He can’t be rotated but it was worth a try. I like Coke, Fox and Clifton but those as a 3 are too one dimensional.

Anyone think we might see Crocombe soon?

No Sousa or Scannell (or Wright or Grant) this weekend.

I would start

                    Macca
Sears Waterfall Towler Crookes
            Coke Hunt Clifton
Bapaga                           McAtee
                     Taylor

These games are always the hardest ones to win tbh, they will go out to frustrate us and defend in numbers. If we aren't winning in the first 30 minutes then the home crowd gets frustrated and the players also start making more mistakes because they want to make something happen fast. This could be one of those games where we have a million chances but don't score and they get a penalty or score from a cheap free kick outside the box.

Looking at some of the comments on here if they’d have been attributed to the manager some would accuse him of bigging up the opposition.

Soussa will be a big loss as he’s consistently got in behind sides we’ve played and Effete has linked up well but our squad is still big enough to field a strong first XI.

In the pre season friendlies, Revan and McAtee linked up well, it could be in Hurst,s mind to link them again, but what do we know, lets leave it to the guy who gets paid to pick the team :)

Sousa isn't confirmed as out, it was just a knock. Hurst has said he is a doubt for Saturday but he can weightbear and we all know Hurst has previous for making it seem like it's worse than it is to throw the opposition manager off. Could well be in contention still.

Think it'll be a game where Dover sit 10 men behind the ball and hope to take us with a lucky 1-0.

Almost another 6,000 shifted, which is remarkable on the back of two slightly sobering results and for a fixture which isn’t overly exciting on paper. If we can maintain momentum we should be looking at a total sellout for the Notts County game at the end of the month.

But where are the extra thousands - under the last owner we averaged 5,884 once (in the [one and only] Championship season under that regime)...

...what is remarkable is that 1878 have built enough goodwill and momentum to get our home fans numbers back to the level last seen in the Championship nearly 20 years ago, in just two months, with the club 3 leagues below that level.

Great that they've opened the Osmond a bit earlier so people don't have to bother with the restricted view seats. On Notts they really should open for booking now. Other clubs restrict our away support - let's restrict Notts to part of Osmond with part for Town fans.

I doubt we will get any of the Osmond for Notts County. Dover isn't likely to present a security risk but Notts probably does. If that's the case, may as well give them full allocation and if they sell it, more money for us.

If we treat them poor, we will probably get similar treatment for the return fixture.

Agree completely, I’d be disappointed to see Clifton selected ahead of Sears at RB not only because it’s Sears’s best position (I’d assume) but Harry us in decent form in mid field at the moment too.

I doubt we will get any of the Osmond for Notts County. Dover isn't likely to present a security risk but Notts probably does. If that's the case, may as well give them full allocation and if they sell it, more money for us.

If we treat them poor, we will probably get similar treatment for the return fixture.

This was part of my point, although I didn't make it explicitly - Notts don't usually sell out the Osmond, they may do this time but that would be a first. We could end up turning away GTFC fans with a two thirds full Osmond Stand. We have split it before - the Fulham play-off semi in 98 - it was split a third for home fans with two thirds for Fulham with a segregation line between.

I think they could have gone up that day, if I remember correctly. They didn't, obviously, and went down the next season instead. Great scenes at the end of that game, even if they were to be short-lived in the big scheme of things.

It's pretty simple anyway. You offer Notts County with the option of the final third if they sell out three or four days before the match. If they don't, allocate it to Town fans - can't say fairer than that?

1566 officially Notts fans on that day  - 300 short of full on a day when they could have clinched promotion with a win. On that form for a National League game I'd say 1200 is perfectly fair...

I wonder how cute we are being with tickets. Notice it's always 'tickets issued' rather than sold and then the attendance is quite a bit lower than that figure. Suspect we are giving a decent whack of free tickets out to schools etc which is great and I wonder if the amount given relates to the amount we expect to sell. So if we could actually sell one out we'll then significantly reduce what's handed out and the tickets issued will be v similar to the attendance. Added bonus is it's creating a buzz and a bit of a 'better get my ticket bought' mentality which then boosts crowds further. All good stuff.

Hmm, the danger is that if they're mixed with Town fans they may not take the same number home. Keep 'em safe.

I think it was pretty full, I think we should give them a decent amount this season too as I’m sure they’ll reciprocate.

I remember the last time we went there a battling 0 - 0 and probably my lowest point as a Town supporter when 3 of our regular travellers threatened to kick the excrement out of my lad, one of whom had been fighting at Chesterfield on the opening day too.

Interesting to not see Hurst on the training video released on YouTube. Plenty of Ben and Doigy but not a single shot of Hurst.......or did I miss one?

Could he be too busy trying to get a loan in either for ST or RB that he didnt have time to take training?

The mystery deepens......unless he is in the video, then forget what I just said. You aint read nuthin, right!!!

Yep. Fundamentally, what's the point of having two right-backs in the squad if one of them isn't played when the other is injured/suspended?

Lots of players can put in a shift in a position which isn't their own, but it's a rare occasion that they will do as well as a specialist for that position. You don't expect a central midfielder to suddenly do well if bunged into a striking role, so why would you expect them to be better than a proper full-back?

I think we should start offering half the Osmond from the start for most games that won’t get decent away crowds. Even if it’s 6k regardless, 80% full stands all the way around the field, with more guaranteed ‘good’ seats, and the potential for them to all fit if needed, makes sense to me.

I agree.  I hope they don't go into the game thinking it's a 'foregone' and take the foot off the accelerator.

I think they did that against Maidenhead

My daughter, son and wife will be there today (without me due to work) but the last time my daughter went to the game we won convincingly so let’s hope she has the same effect today. UTM

Not logged on for a while, so not read this thread

Is Scannell available now?
He could be vital in coming off the bench in the 2nd half if it's still 0-0 IMO

Really hoping we reaally push the boat out and open up 2-3 sections of the osmond. But at the moment we've sold just over half the first section... Which is obviously fantastic.

I can't wait to be back in Grimsby for the Notts game.

Sing loud and proud today. UTM

First ever experience of the Osmond for me. Late decision to go and only place I could find 3 tickets together. For Dover at home, after 2 iffy results and a forecast of rain all afternoon that’s bonkers. Utm.

I've not been to Grimsby for a long time for a home match but each Saturday this season about 1pm I've been thinking "I wish the Imperial was still open and I had a ticket to the match"..

Great to hear another big crowd - I always loved home matches when it was darker and colder as well - seemed more intimate.
