Hi all,

Just been looking at the dates for the FA trophy (… Yes, remember that ?).

I can’t remember whether we enter in the first round or later on? If we enter in round 1 that will clash with the date of Aldershot away so reluctant to book travel.

Cheers

Sorry you’re both wrong. National League clubs enter the competition in the Third Round (Last 64) which is played on the weekend of Saturday 18th December. NL North & South clubs enter in Round 2 (Sat 27 Nov).

A week before Christmas, which should be a well attended game, and we have a Trophy game which is ordinarily not well attended.

Should have been scheduled for November or early December when attendances are typically a bit down.

It's only worthwhile financially if you get to Wembley. A great FA Cup run would realistically be over in January/February, earn us a lot more money and still have time ahead of us to focus on the league.

Use it to give the lads who haven’t played much would be my approach to this.

If we get to the final stages then fine, if not then it is what it is.

I don't think the urgency to do well in the Trophy will be not be as big in comparison to previous seasons (an old regime requirement perhaps?)

With the first fixture being in December, I can see wholesale changes (especially if we're still in the FA Cup) leading to the busy Christmas fixture schedule.

F*** the FA Trophy. I am still convinced that ourselves and Wrexham were the best 2 teams in the Conference in 2012/13 season. The fixture pile up we both suffered because of our trophy run and the beast from the east winter ruined both teams seasons and both missed out on promotion.

dont agree with that

Kidderminster got 93 points and didnt get promoted, Mansfield won the league with 95 and won 7 more games than us

Yes, it appears they changed the round numbering for 2020/21 season. Since we were last down at this level there has been another league inserted at step 3 and 2 more leagues inserted at step 4. Therefore there’s another 60 or so clubs entering the FA Trophy and more rounds are needed.

This season there are 310 teams and 11 rounds overall in the FA Trophy. Last time we played it (2015/16) there were only 276 and 10 rounds overall. The FA chose to remove a qualifying round & insert 2 additional proper rounds into the competition.

Play fringe squad players with perhaps a couple of youths for full match practice ??

Will the current loaned out players be eligible to play?

Sorry, should have also said, give the bench occupants a run out as well.

If you are middling in the league then any cup is very good. That said what our priority is, is a return to the EFL and out of this sh!t league. Nothing should detract from that and it should be the aim of the club.

Honour cup fixtures, by all means, use them to experiment with but don't hold the cups as a need this season. Man U away would be a great tie and day out, earn some money but if it resulted in missing out on promotion then would it be such a great day out.

You can swop Man U for any other prem team, but promotion is a must.

Auction off squad places to fans, play them instead.

5 games doesnt sound alot to be successful in that comp but it's the fixture pile up that is the real demon.

Go out pathetically at the first hurdle.
