For any history buffs making the journey next weekend, you may be interested to know that the Berkshire town of Maidenhead has the little known accolade of the being the birthplace of what we know today as 'oral sex'. This is after, in 1622, the Duchess of Wellington fellated Sir Richard Beaumont in the window of a local blacksmith's. The name quite literally means "place of first head".

If you venture into the historic town centre, you will find hidden betwixt Sports Direct and the town's highly recommended branch of Pizza Express a magnificent 6ft statue of Sir Richard's veiny appendage. In recent years, it has become customary for away fans to stroke its helmet for good luck before heading on, so to speak, to Maidenhead's York Road ground. Currently listed as the 28th of 29 top things to do on Tripadvisor, this is definitely one you don't want to miss.

I thought the French invented it, otherwise spot on historically.

The custom of stroking the tip of the statue of Sir Richard’s appendage (the Beaumont Dome) is quite common. In NE Lincs to this day certain members of this message board (pun intended) like to stroke the Fentydome.
