Noticed over the last 24 hours names are already circling through this forum and on social media...
So rather than having multiple threads I thought I'd open one so we can start spouting names about ..
Add your wish list names or just names you know who are available..
I'll kick it off with this one

Angela Rayner released by Labour. Maybe she could serve Docks Beers in the Fanzone?

Hurst signed up when we got promoted. If Hendrie doesn't resign I wouldn't be surprised if an approach is made

She should be, but she keeps getting involved in the centre where she has no business being and is much less effective as a result. See also Paul Emson

Never heard of her, thought it was a typo for Angela Rippon until I googled her. She could be cheer leader or, as she's on the way out an asst.for Fenty.

Because your average lower league football fan, myself included, knows relatively little about the pool of players around the fourth and fifth tiers of English football. It’s hard to speculate about someone you’ve never heard of in your life.

One thing that’s always impressed me about Hurst is his knowledge of players around this level. At times that can come across as overthinking about the opposition, but it does at the very least show that he does his homework.

tbf Zak Mills is slightly different, having been with Hurst at Boston, when he was a youth player and was subsequently signed by Hurst for us. If he hadn't had that season with us , you'd think it was a possible, given he's previously lived in the region and has been a solid right back at League 2 level.
Interesting that he had been a regular for Vale until he got injured - he's the sort of player that Hurst has gone for in the past - is obviously a solid League 2 player, who's suffered from injury. Weren't Tait, Robertson, Magnay and Andrew of similar ilk?
certainly wouldn't be unhappy if Hendrie left and he was the replacement.
I'll sling 3 names in - Abu Ogogo - real midfield leader at Bristol Rovers who he had as his captain at Shrewsbury
i wouldn't be surprised to see Alex Rodman pitch up from the Gasheads
And just 1 wild card. Abu Eisa's contract at Scunny is nearly up. If they are cutting costs, then could he be tempted by returning to play for Hurst just down the road, with a half decent contract?

Let's hope one of them is the fitness coach that Ollie said was the best he had ever worked with. I don't think we have ever had so many injuries in a season. I also think Ben Davies has had no real influence on players either

Didn’t Hollowhead also say this was the best run club he had worked at! If that guy walked in a room, soaking wet and said it was raining outside I would still look out the window to check. As the American Indians used to say in the old Western films " white man speak with forked tongue".

I liked Mills, was a typical solid RB without being spectacular.

The problem at RB for me, is we've never replaced Tait, who was far too good for non-league anyway

However good somebody is at their job they need to be given the tools to be successful. The S&C Coach wasn't given that last season. He wasn't given the time to get them properly fit because of the short pre-season & having only 1 pre-season match. If you don't get a proper pre-season it effects the entire season. And then the training and playing surface supplied wasn't good enough either which would 100% of played it's part in injuries.

He's been here a good few seasons now and for all the team's shortcomings in those years I don't think we ever thought the team wasn't fit enough until last year's Ian Holloway inspired shambles.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Chris Skitt come in as S&C Coach - Hurst had him at Shrewsbury, where they were lauded for being the fittest team and then he took him to Ipswich, not sure if he's still there or whether he got the boot with PH though!

Just to get it out the way heres a list of ex town players that are being released at the end of the season from league 2

Billy Clarke
Craig Clay
Ben Pringle
Jamille Matt
Paris Cowen Hall
Joe Windowson
Harry Pell
Harry Davis
Zak Mills
Chris Clements

Not saying that we should sign any of them but thought I'd throw them out there so everyone knows. Also not an exhaustive list this was a 5 min scan through the transfer market database so might have missed a few

I think the only one I would take a punt on would be Harry Davis. As good as Billy Clarke was for us, he left under a cloud and p!ssed on us from a great height so would happily turn my back on him

Surprised FGR have released Jamille Matt.

Didn't really do it for us but did well at Newport and was FGR's top goalscorer this season.

In fact I'm surprised any of the teams in the play-offs have released players when they don't know what Division they'll be in next season.

Would be a great signing but doubt he’d want to move back north and to the NL too.

Paul Hurst said it would be this week but didn't give a day. It seems the media and the pure expectation of the amassing hype has produced a date as early as today.

With the numbers of players he has to break the news to, and then comfort them when they break down, and the sort out ongoing support..........

He's telling them they won't be being offered new contracts, he's not telling them a relative has died. Surely none of the players will break down in tears? Of course it's never easy to have those conversations but every player has been through it before.

I think we’re all over expecting what this “retained list” will look like but at this stage you’ll get...

- Out of contract no new terms offered.
- Out of contract considering an offer/options.

I’d be surprised if we get....

- Complete misfit/donkey given cash to do one, at this stage anyway but I’m sure ultimately we’ll see people drift off.

I think it would be good if Hurst could cut away all the dead wood in one go but doubt that’s possible this week.

Let’s see though.....

They might want as much done as possible before releasing it. I suspect everyone out of contract who won't be getting another one will know. But maybe they're very close to agreeing a deal to pay off Rose or Williams and are just hanging on. Scannell is the question mark for me as he figured in the last couple of squads whilst others were out of the picture.

I imagine all unwanted players will be offered terms for their contracts to be terminated and those who reject the offer will be furloughed until the scheme ends and then made to train completely separate from the new squad until they get the message and leave.

With the tax free allowance on redundancy payments there is always a good compromise deal possible where both sides save money and a lot of stress and grief.

Don't know about Hewitt, but was told Hendrie wants out, so I imagine we would want a new right back regardless.

Hewitt would surely be signed as a centre back but could move to right back for cover if needed, making him the sort of versatile player you need in a small squad. Can play centre mid as well.

Whether Hewitt wants to stay is another matter. He may not want to be in non league. He may not want to be a centre back.

Hendrie’s fallen off a cliff performance wise this season so I can’t say I’m too bothered - I’d rather keep Hewitt (as a centre back) if we can.

Speaking of ex-players bumped into Bradley Wood down the Ave this morning.
He is doing a bit of training Clee Town, playing in the ex players match in August, not heard anything, does anyone know any details.

its the Broadley FC Game, lots of legends playing

Surprised he's allowed tbh, got an 8 year ban didnt he

That might be the one, mentioned alot of legends playing.

Got 2 years left, hoping to get back into footy.

Over 70 players from 6 decades will now be in attendance, subject to commitments.

Anyone know how, when and were you can get tickets for this great event.

they announced one of my heroes the other day, Georges Santos, giant of a man

I dont believe ticket sales are out yet but my brother will be leading the legends out and meeting them all pre kick off- very exciting for him!

6 year ban in 2018 so shouldn’t be involved at any level.

Hewitt has to accept that despite an excellent 6 months he’s now got 3 relegations to Non League on his CV

A little bit harsh pinning Macclesfield's relegation on him - he was only a teenager at the time. But yeah, on the surface two in three years with County and us doesn't reflect well.

I guess it depends on how much clubs have actually watched him and are prepared to dig into data - the kinds of due diligence we apparently did none of in this season's recruitment.

At the beginning of the season, I would’ve said that Hendrie was my favourite player in the team. By the end of the season my opinion has completely changed and I thought he had a really poor season He often look like he was running in treacle to me

And so would not be disappointed to see him leave

mirrors what i was told - they live over manchester way, where his missus works, so perfectly understandable (moreso if that rumour about him and Hurst not seeing eye to eye was true)
as another poster said, he hasn't been at his best , and with it being possibly the easiest position on the field to find a replacement, it's no real loss. I also assume he's one of the better paid players, so i can easily imagine us saving a few thousand pounds p.a. with his replacement

Hendrie’s fallen off a cliff performance wise this season so I can’t say I’m too bothered - I’d rather keep Hewitt (as a centre back) if we can.

Hendrie couldn't get in the Shrews team when Hurst was there so I'm guessing there's previous.

James Hanson, Matt Green, Stefan Payne, Sam Haberghem, Joe Bunney, Ludvig Öhman, Julien Lamy, Alhagi Touray Sisay, Cameron Painter and Jock Curran

I wonder how many I might get right lol

Would imagine the length of time he was at Blackburn indicates they considered him to have a degree of talent worthy of persevering with.   Perhaps in a good dressing room with the right attitudes and determination he could flourish.

i wouldn't mind having a few quid on Ogogo turning up here. Hurst really rated him , and i think he's the sort of leader and character we're going to need. Think he was outstanding for Daggers when on loan there 6 months ago

I'd welcome Abo Eisa and Alex Gilliad both ex-Scunny. Decent players on there day, both worked with Hurst previously and maybe the boss can sell the club to them on the excitement of the new owners and a promotion push.

few names from the released lists are interesting.
I'll get the ex Townies out of the way first - Billy Clark (i know it's unlikely, but he'd boss the NL) & Dan Jones at Salford ,who must've been one of Hurst's last signings, so given he's left sided full back or centre half, must rate as a possibility.

There's 3 others who i think have previously been linked with Town over the years
Ali Koikai, ex Burnley L.B. who's had a bad injury and been released by the Gasheads
Emmanuel Dieseruvwe - huge ex Chesferfield center forward who's left Salford after several seasons there. Would fit in perfectly here , as he hardly scores any goals!
Finally Mark Cullen who's left port vale. He's from Hull, and if i remember correctly, was interetsed ina move here as he wanted to be closer to home
Please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong
3 free agents who've played for Hurst before
Jamie proctor, the Rotherham forward, & Bryn Morris ex Shrews defesive midfielder who's just left pompey. Both probably too expensive plus Hurst already dismissed us getting proctor and Morris is more likely to join Northampton where he's been on loan.
The final one is young left back Tristan Nydam who Hurst had at Ipshit. Has had 2 years out with an ankle injury, but made acouple of appearances before being released
Final 4 have East Midlands/South Yorks links
Caolan Lavery - ex Walsall forward, but played for both Sheffield clubs before hand
Adam Crookes - left sided defender released by Vale - born Lincoln
Owen Gallacher - ex Forest left back ,just freed by Burton
and another ex Burton player Mike Fondop ,27 year old big mobile target man, who was Chesterfield's leading scorer a couple of seasons ago, but has presumably found league 1 a step too far. Has done the rounds in non league, and he's the sort of player i could see Hurst going for

2 others who are potential loanees are Billy Chadwick, who will surely find it tough to get in a championship side, and we will be a step up from halifax. and will he go back for Idris El Mizouni? Struggled here with injury, being played out of position in a poor team, but if he got a settled place in a winning team, we would hoepfully see the player Hurst obviuosly rates

There are two themes that define all of our best strikers from our first non-league spell (still rankles me to have to put it like that). They were either proven in the league above and in their late twenties, or prolific in the league below and in their early twenties.

That’s a very simplistic way of looking at things but as a basic litmus test I’d be happy with anyone who meets that criteria. Finding someone of either ilk who we can afford and wants to come here will be tricky though, I suspect.

ben davies was being paid as a coach /assisitant manager, so yeah, probably not too far off the money

Scannell seems an anomaly, but Holloway signed him at the very last minute didn't he, after the deadline had passed and after Scannell hadn't played for ages? Might be that Scannell was desperate and the majority of money was bonuses/pay as you play?
if he was being paid so little ,it might explain why Hurst didn't freeze him out like he did with Rose & Williams?

He’s not signed a new deal yet as wants to play higher. 14 games, 7 goals and 3 assists since he signed in October.

Be a hell of a player for you, if he had full time training he’d be even better. Gutted he’s departure is inevitable.

Well  we need at least 12 tip top players for nl. And as at present our midfield consists of Harry Clifton! Our offensive players numbers 1, the shop.

Incidentally Rhys Murphy is stalling on signing a new contract at Yeovil. Their leading goalscorer and experienced, regular scorer at NL and div 2 level

I'm sure he will be looking to bolster every area of the pitch, including midfield.

What order they arrive in is irrelevant  as long as we have what we need by the start of the season and that will develop as and when players become available I would imagine.

Actually pleased to be heading into a pre-season in almost complete ignorance but with a level of assurance from the management that they know what they’re doing.

Didn’t know anything about McKeown, Pearson, Pond, Hearn, Nielson, Nsiala, Thomas, Amond, Nolan, Bogle, Robertson, Disley, Tait, Cook, Hannah, Magnay, Gowling, John Lewis, Menayese, Coke, Palmer, Arnold, Pittman or Matete and they all came in and did a decent enough job for us.

Happy not to bother trawling soccerbase.com or working out goals per game ratios, and just see what happens next year for once.

I’m willing to put money on Spokes turning into an important player for us next year.

Why perplexed?....should Coke sign, we have Clifton, Khouri, Spokes, Rose, Williams and Scannell on the books already, look at who have in defence and up front, absolutely light in those areas.

I wouldn't want Rose, Williams or Scannell anywhere near an industrious midfield. Khouri, if he signs, will need managing leaving Spokes and Clifton who have potential.

Out wide we also have Morais who won't play again and Max Wright who needs to prove his fitness.

Midfield is so important, a good one takes pressure off those in front and behind them.

If only we could make Craig Disley a few years younger!

You’ve managed to prove why we need midfielders.

Maybe I shouldn't post whilst under the influence in future..I think I was looking at his stats when I posted initially, thinking more along the lines of "should we not be looking for better quality"?..

i know the feeling ,having been there and done that several times before!
Swansea's point is a good one - in some ways Kay is a Hurst type signing - has won the league before, & has fallen out of favour simply due to new managers and formations
as we said we need 10 or 12 players who have that level of proven ability

ps mate mentioned there'd been a rumour about us signing a lad from Newcastle Under 18's? i couldn't see anything about it. Anyone got any further info? (my mate said it was rubbish anyway, someone had put 2 and 2 together and made 5)

I read that and it was a no-brainer, Championship, or National League?
