Can anyone say for sure what happened? Is he really on furlough?
Posted by: DB, March 2, 2021, 1:41pm; Reply: 1
He left Grimsby after his contract was terminated

But if you have a look on the First Team page on the GTFC website you will see he is still showing as being in the first team. All other comings and goings have been added or removed, but he has been on there all the time.

I know this will come across as a hindsight thing, but felt then and still feel now that he was first team quality. Got a lot of yellows but he always new when he had to take one. He’s positioning was also better than Waterfall’s or Pollock’s, can’t remember teams getting in behind like they do now when he was in there.

If he’s been furloughed wtf don’t we just get him back ? It’s not like we don’t need him ffs ?

How on earth can he still be furloughed when we have signed other centre halves
Posted by: pizzzza, March 2, 2021, 5:12pm; Reply: 8
Thought he had left rather than been furloughed, probably back in Sweden now

The guys who gave me the X's obviously know more than me. Last time I saw him was when he left my neighbours house where he lodged taking his belongings with him! That was when his contract was sorted out in December.

100% truth, my neighbour mentioned he was thinking about lodgers, so I said Town often want places ( thinking about juniors etc.). 2 days later Ludvig turns up. Perfectly true no bull.

All I’ll say is it’s strange how every released/sent back to parent club player’s squad number has been reused apart from number 5.

It’s almost like we can’t use number 5 because the player is technically still registered with GTFC.

Or Waterfall who is our worst defender.

If Ohman is still registered with us and we're persisting with the badly out of form Waterfall and Pollock, it sums everything up about this club.

Ohman wasn't perfect but we're crying out for someone to dominate from the back.  If nothing else, this is what he did.  Yes, lots of silly fouls and needless yellows.  But rather that risk than having statues at the back who turn like the 9X going round the hospital grounds.

Can you find out, I'd just like to know.  And I'm not trying to take the P. Genuine enquiry

Waterfall pinging long passes is NOT a sight to behold.  Immediately gave possession away.  Well beyond his ability level.

we are bottom of the league & if ohman was still here we would be bottom of lge in other words he was average

Apparently he and Mohsni were released at the same time, it turned out Mohsni wasn't released at all so maybe Ohman wasn't either. Mohsni is no longer on the OS squad page but Ohman is and it's been updated with the new arrivals. Make of that what you will.

I have been told by 2 separate people that he is on furlough because that is cheaper for the club than paying him off.

The reason... he was surplus to requirements in October. The Swedish season runs from April to early November.
As he is heading home there was absolutely no prospect of him finding a club until April.

He was going to be without a for 6 months anyway so he was happy to be furloughed with the club making up the difference to him.

Thank you so you will be right about No.5 shirt.

He would have been ideal for the Harrogate match given PH’s tactical plan. Not a world beater but certainly capable of doing his bit and guaranteed 100% commitment from him, and releasing him when we did makes no sense given we had no replacement in place at the time. But in a season of poor decisions it’s hardly surprising but thought PH might have brought him back into the fold.

I don’t know. The plural of anecdote isn’t data.

How many times did he bust his nose playing for us? Took a few whacks for the cause, never doubted his commitment. Fairly decent in the air, as you'd expect, but chronically slow and just about every one of the yellow cards he received was due to his lack of pace.

He may have been able to offer us something but in that respect he's not much different from what we have in Waterfall and Pollock.

When the first lockdown came in last year and so many people were furloughed, a lot of companies applied for the maximum allowable amount for their staff. The company my brother in law works for, having applied for the furlough, kept the staff working for about another month to tie up all the loose ends and get all the backlog sorted, and then they had to let the staff take the time off work whether they wanted to or not. My brother in law has worked 3 weeks in the last year. I would say he has been pulling his hair out....but he is bald any way.

Maybe the same thing happened back in November, taking his furlough all the way to May, and because GTFC were paid the amount they claimed for, he is unable to play for us until his furlough has ended.

Just a thought.

Slower than Waterfall, twice as likely to concede a penalty , get sent off, suspended, couldnt pass the ball.....but yes he was brave and won headers.
Take a look at the Sunderland (?) Checkatwat trophy highlights i think it was and tell me he would improve our defence.

He could be both furloughed and gone back to Sweden. As has been said using furlough  to the end of his contract utilises taxpayers funds to pay up his contract rather then the clubs . With 40 players plus on the books at some time this season I would be surprised if there were not others.

I don't understand why a good proportion of the squad hasn't been furloughed to save the club some cash especially as it looks like Paul Hurst isn't going to play them.

Hurst answered this question very carefully which suggests to me Öhman is still on the books, albeit at home in Sweden.

Difficult one this as you have to be able to prove to the HMRC that there is no work to be done to claim and I’m not sure “not considered for selection” would cover that. Maybe now the reserves have packed up there’s a bigger opportunity to do this.

There's no criteria for who a business can furlough. I doubt Öhman is the only one.

Like I say the thing you have to prove to the HMRC is that that’s is no work to do. Easy to prove in a closed business or one that’s doing less trade not sure how you’d prove that in a football club especially in Ohman’s case when his “specialist” role is this afternoon being filled by a mid field player or whatever Hewitt is meant to be this week.

Golly gtfc is correct. Employer is free to furlough any employee only requirement is that once furloughed they do not work in the business in our case that would include training with the club.keeping fit of his own choice back in Sweden in Ohmans case would not be an issue. However unlikely GTFC could take him off furlough and play him anytime they wish. Reality is its a massive near free pass to change your squad mid season many clubs at our level will have taken advantage of.

The ironic thing is that when you look at the HMRC web site it states that “you can take part in training”.

By the look of things yesterday, the lack of work on the pitch must mean most of the players have been furloughed then
