2011–2012     Barrow     57     (30)
2012–2014     Grimsby Town     71     (19)
2014–2016     Barrow     86     (53)
2016–2018     Tranmere Rovers     81     (56)
2018–2019     Walsall     40     (15)
2019–             Mansfield Town     32     (11)
2020     →    Tranmere Rovers (loan)     4     (0)

I would be demanding the manager and board resign if we signed someone with that pathetic scoring record.

Roughly 1 in 3, not a bad record is it. Thought he failed to get a run of games with us, even when he played well he was benched the following week.

Great player for me.  Some fans didnt like it when he reacted to being called a nonce for 90s mins by celebrating a win in front of the Findus.  Strange that...............

Always seemed to be so frustrated with everything......shoulders seemed to drop quickly but still pretty much a 1 in 3 record across his career.

that's why Mansfield pay him £4,500 per week (apparently and/or allegedly)

Prepared to be wrong, but did the appearance and goal figures include under 5 s
I’d be amazed if it was senior appearances

In no way is Green better than Cook. Maybe 4 or 5 years ago.

In my 34 years I'm struggling to find a forward who has been as worse as Green, and what I mean by that is one who had such a long spell of being in the team and consistently not coming up with the bizz...

I really liked Andy Cook as a player. Used to hang in the air, bring others into play and he actually scored goals.

He seemed one of those characters who needed time and effort spending on him to get the best out of him, and I think he could have made even more of his obvious talents.

Another one who is miles better than most we have at the moment, anyway.

Hands up.
Amazed

I won’t quibble about his 65 games at the same level as LJL and others!

Obviously has some ability as his record shows, but he just didn't look arsed during most of his time with us. I think he admitted after he left that he'd not been fit enough. Perhaps understandable as he was a young lad who moved across to the other side of the country, away from friends and family.

My recollection was that he was pretty good in his first season but was a 19 year old away from home and probably ate and drank the wrong stuff. But he was always decent, perhaps a bit greedy at times but that’s strikers, and scored a decent amount of goals including the goal at Wembley v Wrexham. Second season not an automatic choice and that’s when he lost a bit of confidence and his attitude appeared to drop. Remember the cup game v Huddersfield when he was outstanding and the next week Hurst left him out again and there was meltdown on here.

His subsequent goals showed the potential he showed whilst with us but since moving to Mansfield his career seems to have gone backwards a little but he’s still got time to come back.

Cook was on  over 4 grand a week at Mansfield . Same as Kyle Bennett at Bristol Rovers. The worlds gone mad. Have a look at this

If that salary list is accurate I would expect some levels of disharmony amongst the players when things are not going well with the weekly wage for Wright & Pollock being particularly pathetic, how would the club expect to keep Pollock if that’s what they pay him?

As for the higher earners I assume, pray, we don’t pay Bennett’s full salary and I can see where Jolley spent his budget when you look at Waterfall, Hanson & Green. Not saying players should not get paid decent money shame it’s not attracting a better quality of player though!

I liked Andy Cook - Buckley's comment about his second touch always being a tackle (i.e. not a great first touch) notwithstanding.

My (thoroughly unreliable) memory of that second season is that Cook was just starting to look decent, we signed Brodie (spit), and Cook's confidence went awol.

As a general aside, a big forward with a not-so-great first touch can be effective if he wins a fair percentage of the battles for the ball thereafter.
Livo and the early Dion Dublin spring to mind.
Diego Costa too perhaps...but I suspect he deliberately 'miscontrolled' a few to set up a situation where he could, erm...put in a 'forwards tackle' on the defender.

Gibson is paid zero according to that. And he signed a 3 year deal. Think he should get another agent.

I normally pour scorn on figures that are banded about but that looks about what I would expect, with a few expectations.   Maybe not exact with the money but in terms of the hierarchy of high earners.

Ex-player or not, I'd have taken Andy Cook back in a heartbeat.   I don't think he was Hurst's kind of player though, not the right attitude.  He was awesome at times in that first season though.  What was the game where he came off the bench and grabbed two late goals to win it when we were staring defeat in the face?

No doubting his ability but the question was always over his attitude. Look at every club he's been at the fans say he couldn't be assed or caused some sort of problem in the squad.

Cook is a better player than his body language suggests.

It took him a little while to settle, but he seemed to come alive when Hannah joined on loan, and we went top of the league with those two up front together — that's when Marcus Marshall looked a prospect.

I liked Cook — he was young at the time but had played a lot of 'men's' football at Barrow, and scored regularly. You could tell he had something about him. Thought he was excellent in the air, for a young lad. Had a bit of footballing intelligence.

As with most strikers, unless they're adored or promised to be played each week, they easily lose form, confidence, faith, etc. Think he's no exception. We signed a load of strikers in the January window (including Brodie) and he wasn't quite the same after that.

Clearly finds it easier to score in non-league — he was quite prolific at Barrow and Tranmere.

If we could forget that he was an ex-player, looking at his stats and scoring record independently, we'd be delighted if we'd just signed someone like that on loan for the rest of the season.

However, being an ex-player, many of us had already made their minds up about him. And as someone else has said, even though Hurst (and Scott) signed him previously, I'm not sure his character is a good fit for us at the moment.

Definitely a striker capable of giving defenders a tough afternoon. Him and Payne/Hanson would be a handful for any team. I just worry about the supply.

He was no more than decent here but flipping hell three quarters of the players we sign are shite when they’re here so that’s no surprise.

Has had a decent career since.

Just been looking at other clubs on this site. Kevin van veen on 4k a week, no wonder the scunts are broke. I am surprised Pádraig Amond is only on £800 a week at Newport though.

If that’s correct about Podge, and he’s on more there than we offered him, that’s got to be the Mistake of the Century (so far) at Town.

Could it be that his pay has fallen recently?
