Lampard is quoted in the papers today that regarding players selection "If you don't run, you don't get picked".   This is his main aim now as a manager. He is sick of a number of players not trying their best and not putting the miles in.  Running for the team will get results, not using different formations.

He echoed what James Maddison said is the key message at Leicester.

We could do the same, but who would be left to get picked?  Who puts a shift in and is half-decent?

Comments yesterday that Scunny looked exhausted at the end.  Our players looked fresh and ready for another game.

Keep Max Wright fit and he’d run through brick walls for us.

Luke Waterfall, Luke Hendrie, Elliot Hewitt the same.

Macca & Pollock also to an extent.

Gibson is coming on ok for me, Jackson Jr and Spokes to a lesser extent. But they’ve come in raw from non league, If they can train hard and up their ability by 25%, I’d stick with them, given that they’re on peanuts wages, £1000 a week between them by all accounts

The rest of the players are useless old donkeys and need putting down.

Really?

He has the odd good game but sometimes you wouldn't know he was on the pitch.

Quite funny really, he had 1 year without being able to sign anyone and gets 6 months then to build a team to win the league, they are still in the running for a (not all) champions league place. One of his signings is a proven goalscoer who for some reason cant hit a cow on the bottie with a banjo. It really is ridiculous how little time most managers get in the Premiersh1t

The summer recruitment was presumably planned with a different head coach in mind, whether it be Tuchel or someone else.

Lampard is welded to variations of 4-3-3, so they sign Werner who has struggled for Germany when played as the central focal point and overload with number 10s who don’t really fit into the system (Ziyech and Havertz).

Some of Chelsea’s recruitment in recent seasons has been bizarre, almost Holloway-esque. Kepa, Jorginho to disrupt Kante etc.

Looking at the Flitwick thread on this forum, it looks like with all the GTFC exiles in that part of the world, local lad Brian Stein might be able to entice Lampard to co-manage the newly formed Flitwick Mariners.

He had to sign 2 windows worth of players in one.

I was always surprised to see no flexibility in the formation

Surely,

Kante
Pulisic Havertz Ziyech Werner
Abraham

Thats what I would have done - t has worked wonders with Leicester with arguably less glamorous players

What do I know, I play FIFA and follow Grimsby!

Gibson is the worst finisher I’ve seen at the club for at least 10 years

Too many of our players can be criticised for not running or working hard enough. It's one of the reasons we're in the mire because, on paper at least, I'd argue we have enough quality to stay up.

But games aren't won on paper and I think Holloway created a culture where players were given a bit too much freedom, not enough coaching and direction. A bit like Newell letting the lads drink. 'I'm just a chilled-out entertainer' David Brent style boss. Everyone's mate, but also no one's mate.

There was talk about that 'run' Holloway made the players do, and certain levels of fitness he expected, but just about any professional who has ever missed a pre-season through injury will tell you that if you miss pre-season, you're forever playing catch-up.

There is no doubt in my mind that not playing pre-season games is the single biggest reason why we're not able to run ourselves into the ground.

Hurst's comment about us walking off the pitch looking fresh is possible misconstrued because I don't think these players are capable of anything more than a leisurely amble based on the fact that they don't have core fitness from pre-season.
