Let's have a proper match thread:

Mariners: McKeown, Hendrie, Menayese, Pollock, Preston, Wright, Matete, Hewitt, Habergham, Green, Hanson.

Subs: Russell, Rose, Scannell, Spokes, Gibson, Williams, Jackson Jr.

Surprised to see no Morais or Waterfall, can only think they are carrying slight niggles...

Happy with that line up, probably Green will benefit from having Hanson to take some of the weight off him, and the bench looks good.now just get the 3 points and Saturday lockdown becomes palatable.

4-4-2

Wright and Preston wide with a brief no doubt to track back and cover the full backs.

Interesting to see how Green and Hanson will perform with service from Wright and Matete.

Greens on the pitch again, he's such a dead weight we might as well play with 9 men instead of his constant fouling

See how he goes now he has someone to share the workload.

What workload would that be? He just fouls all the time. The second half the other week, when Gibson replaced him, is working hard. Green is pretending.

We know how he goes we saw it under Jolley when we were scoring for fun at the start of the season, he barely did anything.

I'm not so sure. You'd still put them on the bench in case of any injuries during the game

Well it's a "dogs on the pitch starting XI". Two left backs. Can't believe Green is playing. Rather have the extra man in midfield with the advanced one near Hanson..
Where's the goals going to come from in open play? Relying on set pieces, long ball to Green who hasn't got the legs to do owt with it or everything to Hanson's head. never gonna work..

New players look decent though..

Scannell for Preston and any forward or CM for Green to get anything out of this game.. by half time at the latest..

He stopped it from being 3:0 at the end there when they just walked the ball through 4-5 players who don't care enough to put a tackle in. Bunch of lazy girl privates may as well have not turned up. As with our previous L2 relegation a bunch of mercenaries added to a team who doesn't care won't help as they don't really care either, not their relegation to suffer.

Surely Hurst can see that it's either Green or Hanson, not both! Preston and Green off as a minimum please.

Habergham not up to speed yet either. They chase us down far better while we hesitate. Ref giving soft kicks for both goals too.

We haven't scored more than one goal in a game in 12 matches and 3 in 19. Not only is this game copulated, but I've come to the acceptance in the first half that we're getting relegated. Some might say that it's dramatic, there's plenty of games left, but we've had opportunities to take points from our relegation rivals in the previos weeks and consistently shown we're worse than them.
Posted by: barrattstandman, January 23, 2021, 1:59pm; Reply: 142
Free kicks are going to get us relegated . Why don't we learn ? Stop giving the ref a chance to blow stop getting too close to players and giving them a chance to fall down . Been like it for more than this season .

Why can't managers see the obvious?

Hurst said he had watched us 4 times before he took the job, and now we are even worse.

He must have seen Macca was having a terrible season; first job was to get a new keeper. You cannot keep playing Green its a joke.

You won't stay up with Hewitt in midfield. One so so game in 6 or seven won't get us safe.

It is a bloody mess.

Hurst has got to show more faith in Habergham by playing a more attacking left sided player and Hurst picking Green every game is beyond a sick joke..

Scannell for Preston, Spokes for Green, extra man in midfield, and get Spokes, Max and Scannell closer to Hanson..

Simply awful.

No energy, no drive, no understanding. We’re fooked.

All we have is a ball down the channel. Literally, that’s it.

Habergham and Preston down the left is a failed experiment and needs ending now. Preston has no idea how to attack or move forward with any purpose. I’d also say that I’m less than impressed by Habergham so far. Rarely crosses the half way line and when in possession he frequently takes too long and is closed down. Appreciate he hasn’t played for a long time but right now he isn’t improving us.

I currently can’t see us winning another game.

Has to drop green has to. Preston has looked poor apart from one brilliant pass to.... green. Who couldn't even take a shot when put clear thru on goal.

Habergham looks hesitant and has nearly been caught out on two occasions.

Anyone on for green, please, he is so awful

An issue with our captain, 2nd goal goes in and is he charging up to his players, giving them some? encouraging them, no he wanders head down to the edge of his box then wanders back again, total silence from the whole except Matete a young lad on his debut. Shocking defending, how are we going to score goals with 6 defenders on the pitch, a winger who only ever redeives the ball in his own half (obviously not allowed to run forwards unless we already have the ball at halfway) a striker who scores 2 a season up front who has continued in the same vain this year but still gets picked (and odd bits of service he gets does nothing with it.) We are a mess, can't see us escaping to be honest, Scunny are not v good but not one shot, but we look like we will concede at every corner and free kick >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Agree about Hewitt, he has been absolutely garbage in recent weeks. Rarely wins a 50/50 and his passing is shocking. He’s offering nothing and looks poor against other poor midfielders. Cover for right back but nothing more.

He inherited a bad squad, but he clearly hasn't fully understood who the worst performers in it are. Anyone with eyes could tell you Green is terrible, yet Hurst still picks him every week and leaves him on when we're in need of goals. Max Wright and Scannell have been two of our better attacking players this season (that's not saying much tbf), but he pulls one of them off at half time after playing no worse than some players who remained on the pitch, and leaves the other one on the bench until we're 3-0 down. Rose and Williams have been dire all season - both just give free kicks away and really offer nothing creatively. He brings them both on when we're losing - why? Obviously the main blame for our position lies with Holloway and the board, and the players Hurst has brought in have looked better than what we already had, but he can't expect to escape some blame if he keeps putting players who we know are useless on the pitch at the expense of others who've proven they're slightly less excrement.

A. Why didn't Williams shoot.  Town's big problem, they try so hard for the perfect shot that the opportunity goes.
B.  When he went down, why didn't he appeal.  The defender caught his foot.   If their first goal was a foul....

I cannot understand why Hurst and the coaching staff (including those that have seen this team all season) did not immediately suss out what we  needed to change, to even give us a chance of staying up.

If I were Hurst I would have wanted assurances from whoever is holding the purse strings that proper money would be made available.

Apart from bottom team Southend (for now), our GD is a massive 15 goals worse then the next team (Scunny ironically).   A recipe for relegation if ever there was one!

We can't stop conceding goals, cant score them, and the midfield do not support either, or offer any leadership.  Very sad.

Thank you Runaway, Holloway, Daft Cap and BS merchant.  Agent relegation member-up.  Mission on-track.

Only pluses are the new lad in midfield, the fact the transfer window is still open and the slight possibility the trapdoor may shut tight and spare our blushes.

Hate to say it, but I'm afraid its season over.

Getting thrashed by a team as bad as Scunny means that we are totally inadequate and without hope.

There's a week left in the transfer window. Unless we somehow bring in four or five good players in just over a week we have to basically rely on this bunch. Cant see it happening.

When you have to resort to bringing on someone as dire as Williams, you are well and truly fuckked.

Well certainly not helped by the officials with some rubbish decisions but no where near good enough overall.

Preston, Hewitt, Green ineffective , no width, no bite, no desire anywhere.

Deserve to go down.

Some of you need to remove the rose tinted spectacles and stop gushing about the return of "The Messiah" and realise that we are totally sh1ite !

Can't defend, no idea's going forward, the National League beckons (again).

50% more possession that Scunny (60% v 40%).

Again, we dominated possession in another game.  We very rarely do anything with it!!  We still lost 3-0 today.

Minus 24 goal difference.  We are shockingly bad.

Error prone keeper. Static, slow, clueless defence.  No quality, pace. fight, or creativity in Midfield. No threat up front.

To be honest, its nor four or five new players we need, It's nearer 10.

Cant seen enough new faces coming in during the week we have left in the transfer window. So we are down. let's face it.

People having a go at Williams by far our best player going forward today if we are going to criticise players I think we need to look at our defence! The 3 that came on after half time added much needed energy and we started to pass the ball rather than hoof it up the pitch at Hanson. 2nd half so much better. Trying to be positive obviously none of it is great  ...

This. Switched on late, could not believe the selection or the subs. Matete was very promising. Their keeper has been criticised this year but looked much safer than ours.

At 3 - 0 up against a sh1t side like us you can understand the Scunny players giving Williams some space and add the fact that he’s a complete fanny he’ll never cause anyone a problem. Like so many of them he’s here because nobody else in the EFL wanted him.

I know he was only one of the 11 that failed us but if he thought that about his team-mates, he should have been laying in to them out there.

Just got back from a walk and seen the carnage.

Wasn't very inspired by the starting line up if I'm honest, but to be fair, there's not a much between the lot of them ability wise, so could have picked any side and I think we would have lost. Scunny and Town are bottom of the form guide over the last 6 games and they dicked us, which doesn't augur well for the rest of the season as we didn't lay a glove on them. Once again, a sh1t side struggling for goals and wins brush us to one side easily, a pattern that is all too familiar. Thought we had a chance when Hurst came in but it's looking increasingly like we will continue to be useless without at least four or five new signings, and who will want to come here that is any good?

I'm completely baffled as to how we keep being so clueless season after season. We can't seem to find a bunch of players that can even do the basics. They can't control a ball, can't pass, can't take free kicks and corners, and never look remotely like scoring a goal. Even the very worst sides alongside us manage to score now and again. Even fooking Harrogate managed 2 at Salford.
