I’ll be supporting the team but not the club.

Williams has had one decent game and been anonymous the rest, Rose has majorly underperformed and Spokes was dead on his feet at the end of the last game. Clifton on the other hand has probably been one of the better performers in a shocking side. I don’t get why anyone would leave him out.

Rose is a far better player than Clifton.  Clifton gives away far too many free kicks, and can only pass the ball backwards or sideward, when trying to find a pass through a packed midfield/defence, he is not very good.  Spokes may well have benefitted from the last game, would much rather see him in the side than Clifton.

Simple realy
Clifton is a better player than any of them in cm plus he's Town through and through.

Agreed and he’s had 2 good games in a row in midfield and scored 😂

Even if he was knackered after his last game I would still want Spokes to start even if he only lasts 60mins.

Back to a basic 4-4-2. Would have been better with Edwards for Bennett but happy with the formation. Good luck boys

I think people forget that Woodsy actually got us playing in that season and took it to the last game. It’s now clear what a huge job it was to turn that season around, we know now the lack of discipline from the senior players, drinking on the way to training etc.

Was he not sacked when we were 4 points outside the playoffs in the conference? Was a while before we troubled the playoffs after that.
He probably would have been a fine manager in the right setting, him like Groves and Rodger were let down by the way the club was run.
He’s done a wonderful job with bringing youth players in. Pollock will be his next million pound man.

He was sacked because he had a big budget and wasted it and he did not have a clue how to set up a side to play in the physical environment of non-league. He is a great coach and player developer but as a manager and team builder he was one of the worst we have had.

While all parties are pissing about deciding who owns the club and we have yet another new manager it will probably be up to the tea lady to decide (anyway if Shutes and Co want to take us to the Premier League we'll need to keep players like him after all the rest aren't up to much)

Davis and co have slearly got us playing pure basics today. Strong at the back and well organised in front of them, everyone seems to know their jobs.

We're clearly trying to move the ball forward quickly and as simply as possible. We're still clearly missing a big guy who can head the ball at the top especially with the way Morais has been wiping some balls in today, but we're still not creating enough chances. Bennett is wasted on the left, Morecombe have already cottened on to him always cutting inside.

Thought the ref was going to be one of these dodgy ones who always blows for every single little thing but he balanced out a little more as the games gone on.

Overall not too much to complain about. Hope.we can keep on the front foot in the 2nd and not just try and defend a 1 nil lead.
Posted by: headingly_mariner, December 26, 2020, 4:00pm; Reply: 82
Done well there. Look organised, winning all the 2nd balls in the middle. Bennett looking dangerous and wonderful corner for the goal.

We’ve given away the most free kicks in the division this year, Matt Green must have given away 90% of them.

Bennett is a complete clown. In the space of about 30 seconds he gave the ball away and then put no effort in to making a tackle or stopping the cross they just scored from. Need to be rid of players like him if we want any chance of staying up this season.

edit: also worth mentioning that the Morecambe break came from Clifton taking a horrifically heavy touch on the edge of their area in a good position and giving the ball away. A more technically adept player would have been able to control the ball and put it back into the box in that situation.

Nice of the Caretaker Braintrust to wait until they went ahead to haul Bennett off after they've basically spent all half murdering us down the left hand flank. No confidence in Fenty finding a suitable new manager but no confidence in these three if they're given the job til the end of the season either.

Sadly we have known that from the start of the season.

In the first apart from the corner we never took advantage of the wind. Up front Jackson and Green have been very poor.

Technically, we could be 2nd to bottom and in the relegation places.  Basket case Southend have a game in hand.  If they win this 3-0 they would go above us.

We would be worse than the former basket case team.  Terrible.

We could do a York. Got back in the league, faffed around (Fenty TM) and plummeted back down again, more than one division.

I can't see the current board digging deep into the purse strings to pay for the necessary reinforcements in the January window.

We haven't even got a manager in place for frigs sake. We're doomed and set for the drop.

Bollox to it all. Off to see Timmy Taylor.

The pressure and defending starts at the top of the pitch
We create nothing, hold up nothing, and give away stupid fouls
It is basically relying on us getting a scrappy, crappy goal from a corner from a defender then trying to hang on - which we are incapable of doing
Not goal threat - ball given away cheaply - not being held up - bound to lead to wave after wave of pressure from opposition
Eventually our average defence will crack

I honestly don't know where we will find better strikers from - who will want to come to us and who is there any better?

We are in the total cart

Nah, it's still possible to be critical of the way the team is set up. Yeah the players are shite but it's the caretakers' decision to select and leave Bennett on when he keeps wimping out of tackles and letting them in behind him. Rose, Williams and Tilley were all on the bench - would rather see any of those three on ahead of him and if they had been on maybe we wouldn't have thrown the match away?

Deflated but I expected it. It also looks as if getting a victory against us has given Southend a gee-up, beating Colchester 2-0 in the Essex local derby. We now look as if we could be in the bottom two by the end of the festive period and it is going to be tough to turn it around.

There is a reason why we are poor

Edward's and Bennett are nowhere good enough that's why Rovers and City have put them out on loan.
There is a reason FGR let William's go, he is past his best.
As much as they try Gibson, Jackson Jn. & Sisay are non league players thrust into a poor line up. The young pri do not stand a chance either in this poor team.
Hanson is injury prone and Green looks to foul his man and not win the ball. Clifton and Wright will run all day for the team but lack a bit of quality.
Hoping a new manager and owner will give some confidence and some incoming talen
t.
The off the field issues are definitely affecting the team.
Let's hope the new year changes things.

I honestly think that if we go down the club is finished. The Conference is a tough, tough league. The football is average at best but you have to compete every single game. It is the graveyard of even decent league sides that go down. Chesterfield were in L1 and then two seasons later in the Conference and for the past two seasons struggling not to drop down into the regional section.
We are in a very precarious position and I am gutted that politics and posturing has put the future of this proud, proud club in jeopardy.
