Yeah same,  decent half they probably shaded it, will definitely settle for a draw.
Why is football nowadays when you fall over it's a foul and a free kick ?

Could really do with scoring first, but that requires somebody shooting , as the longer the game goes the more we will be on the back foot due to fitness levels.

Itā€™s because the authorities have directed the game towards being contactless.... touch someone and itā€™s a free kick. Drives me crazy....football was always a physical game but less and less the case nowadays

A half of two halves. First 25 or so we looked good, passing the balkl well on the deck looked to move the ball quick, just wasn't happeneing in the final third. Around 25 or so they seemed to start pressing us higher, forced us into hoofing the ball to their back 3 with an average hight of 9ft 7 and since then they've taken control of the game and pinned us back. We need to start doing the same to them, press them higher, force them to hoof the ball at Pollock and Waterfall.

Our midifeld seems to of gone flat when we're defending , we're not picking up the Bolton midfield as well as we did at the start of the game and they're passing it round us now. Someone like Scannell coming on would giuve us a bit more of an outlet as well, as we saw in the first game he's a class above this league and we need him on the pitch.

In other news Sissy has scored for Cleethorpes

None of the new players look fit nor effective. We tired badly after half an hour which will only get worse. We were slightly better till Bolton found their feet but we are just hanging on. The stats just came up - 0 shots 0 crosses and zero attacking ideas.

Posted by: Croxton, October 10, 2020, 4:02pm; Reply: 44
Clifton the hardest worker on the pitch but Williams is so disappointing given his experience. If we are to advance up the pitch in numbers, he has to retain possession. Rose has improved but he may fade again.
Scannel on please so we can get behind and expose their weakness on crosses. Preston's first priority is to mark Hickman.

We could be playing all week and never look like scoring. However with all the players we have got/signed I think there is a good team in there we just havent seen it yet. Need Hanson fit.

Big improvement today with a better defence on the pitch. First job to stop the rot is stop conceding, then build from there. Think we'll have to grind out a few results, then start to get more involved at the business end of the pitch.

Any away point is a good point.
Posted by: Henryscat, October 10, 2020, 5:12pm; Reply: 94
Edwards will be a hell of a player once heā€™s got a bit of confidence which was obviously lacking today on a couple of occasions.

Gibson didnā€™t really impress me but didnā€™t get much chance to to be fair.

Rose MOM for me but the defence were solid too.
Posted by: lee65, October 10, 2020, 5:12pm; Reply: 95
A great team effort all considered

Pollock and Waterfall should stay as our no 1 CB pairing
Hendrie brought some experience, shape, and calmness
Taylor looked far better today, showed glimmers of why Ollie got him in
Rose far better, breaking play up and giving good passes too

Just need to be a bit more clinical in the last third, we had 9 shots to their 8 with neither team on target!
Posted by: sonofmadeleymariner, October 10, 2020, 5:13pm; Reply: 96
I'll take a 0-0 after our last appearance. We looked better when we changed shape to 433 we're more used to. Our back 4 looked more solid, I think Pollock and Waterfall make a good partnership. Clifton and Rose were everywhere, still not impressed by Taylor he seems to jog everywhere and always looks out of position. I said at half time the Midfield needed to stop dropping so deep and it made more of a difference in the second half. Our strikers didn't really have much of a chance, every time we got the ball near the box Bolton got back in numbers . I did think the 3 changes up front made a difference, Bolton looked a little more exposed once they came on.

Rose or Clifton MoM for me

If we can get our best 11 on the pitch I don't have a worry about how the season will go. Like we said right at the start of the season lack of fitness is killing us.

Thought Taylor put a shift in especially after several knocks and Windsor had a thankless task against giants. Both will look much better in a settled team. Oddly, even though the ref gave a foul each time a player fell over, he possibly missed a sending off for each team.

But the service was horrendous. Rooney would look crap with the way we played today. Annoyingly, when Gibson came on we actually played a couple of balls on the floor which is when Green looks decent. He's certainly not going to win headers against the man mountains they had in defence

We exceeded expectations for me. Solid at the back, Rose much more with the pace, looked increasingly dangerous on the break. Didn't look like a team mostly made up of kids for the first time this season. I reckon we'll do alright once we've got a few more games under our belts.

with zero service............not a single ball slipped through to him, not a single cross from out wide for him to attack .....thought him and Windsor at least looked like linking up/ looking for each other early on when they looked more like a front two , after that Green became isolated, fed high looping balls with a huge centre half on his back and eventually resigned himself to go looking for the ball in wider / deeper areas.

Listening to Ollie on RH re the fitness situation I think we all need to be appreciative of the teamā€™s effort and the point gained. When you consider that we have three away games in such a short period of time without proper training we will do very well to get another two points this coming week.

The running of the game by the EFL seems more chaotic as each day passes and the fact that Tranmere have played when 3 of their staff have tested positive for Covid demonstrates a total failure to put in place consistent protocols that all clubs must adhere to, incredulous really.

One of the best results of IH's career.

Ian Holloway described Grimsby Townā€™s goalless draw at Bolton as ā€˜one of the most fantastic pointsā€™ of his career as his side finally got off the mark in League Two.

The Mariners earned their first point of the season after a game of few chances at the University of Bolton Stadium.

The visitors did have their chances to walk away with all three, although indecision at opportune moments cost them dearly.

Nevertheless, having trained for just three days after being in self-isolation, Town can be more than happy with their efforts in earning their first point of the campaign.

ā€œI think thatā€™s one of the most fantastic points my team has ever got for me,ā€ Holloway said.

ā€œComing to a wonderful place like this after being asked to stay at home, what can I say?

ā€œIā€™ve got a new group, three of them came this week while we were in lockdown, I didnā€™t even meet them. Itā€™s just so surreal.

ā€œI didnā€™t know how best we could play, who was fit, I had to run them on Thursday, I couldnā€™t run them on Wednesday, but luckily for me we were locked down the right day so we could prepare for three days, instead of poor old Leyton Orient who could only prepare for two hours last Saturday!

ā€œI am so proud of them. In the end, we could have nicked it.

ā€œJust at half-time, I thought our legs were coming off, but I had to change the shape and get five across midfield because they were stretching us wide.

ā€œIā€™ve seen a few games in my life, made a few bad decisions, some good ones, and luckily that change helped us, and we almost nicked it at the end.ā€

Holloway also bemoaned his sideā€™s hectic schedule, with the Mariners set to be back on the road on Tuesday in their rearranged game at Cheltenham, before travelling again next Saturday to Leyton Orient.

ā€œNow weā€™ve also got to play this Tuesday away to Cheltenham, and then on Saturday away to Leyton Orient, and I worry that this wonderful competition, for all our wonderful supporters who arenā€™t allowed in a beautiful ground like this. Why canā€™t we get people in a ground as beautiful as this?

ā€œHome supporters only, Iā€™ve got no problem with that, because the atmosphere is awful.

ā€œIā€™m very, very worried about football, but as a performance, thatā€™s as good as Iā€™ve ever had. Maybe as good as my first three points away to Mansfield last season when we went down to 10 men really early in the game.ā€

First time posting for a while.

Watched on follow today and found quality of that pretty good.

Home commentators were clearly expecting a home win (ha), yet despite quite a bit of pressure, I don't recall McKeown being seriously troubled all game. So a really solid performance from Town, in difficult circumstances.

Good to see Hendrie back in there and the back four overall looked solid.

Some good bits of play in midfield, but we really need Hanson up top give us some presence / goal threat.

UTM.

Much more of a collective performance today and a great point gained. I donā€™t think many were optimistic about our chances beforehand. Our back four had good games, Preston did spurn a good opportunity but that will come with experience.

Harry and Rose covered a lot of ground today. I recall Harry crossing from the right byline one minute then making a block at our byline about 30 seconds later. Rose just edges MoM for me.

Williams and Taylor had better games but still hoping thereā€™s more to come from them. The arrival of Bennett will help. Green put in a faint less shift against some very big centre backs. Donā€™t think he see the sun all afternoon. Windsor played well considering heā€™s still remembering names.

Subs made a decent impact. Only thing I would have done differently - Iā€™d have included Mohsni up top for the last 20, just to see if we could get the ball to stick and stretch them with Edwards and Scannell.

Happy with a clean sheet and a point to get us off the mark. Hanson hasnā€™t had any football for a while so whilst I know he will bring a different dynamic to our attack, he might need a few weeks just like the rest of the lads.

Pleasantly surprised by the opening 10 minutes - were well on top, looking to play to feet through midfield. Bolton got into the game after that , their guy who was up against Preston the main threat. Only danger was the free kick that went just past the post with McKeown rooted to the spot. Saw out first half well - despite giving possession away/poor clearances at times.

Tactical change second half helped, grew into the game again as it went on - no dangers - finished on top- draw a fair result. Expected more from them - they took their main threat off, Santos looks a decent centre back- but overall disappointing. For us - hard to judge given the circs - best and tidy in some areas- Rose,Taylor for eg - though def looked ā€˜leggyā€™ all over and the lack of physicality and pace is a concern for me - on an off day can see us getting exploited/hurt in that area. Thought Clifton had a very good game, worked hard. Preston did ok against their threat out wide, the two centre backs did ok- again an area in which on a given day against a diff style we could suffer. Fair play to Windsor - never stopped, despite being isolated at times/chasing shadows - good attitude, will fit in well when Hanson returns. Green worked hard but (sorry) might be the guy who comes off the bench last 10/15 rather than start.

Overall it was a good, unexpected point. Yes plenty of ways to improve in time - but couldnā€™t fault or question the effort and application by everyone.

Obviously easily satisfied, lets hope he's going to set higher targets than that

Or maybe he's trying to build confidence in a team that is clearly lacking it and had some adverse situations to go through.

What the intercourse does this mean 'not everybody is a chicken nugget with double barbecue sauce whoā€™s going to get it all wrong.'

I donā€™t think heā€™s mad, I think heā€™s well intentioned but talks absolute waffle...

I think being easily please is symptomatic of the feeling around the club, a feeling thatā€™s been there a while.

In hindsight, the point was well earned we move on. We never look like scoring, thatā€™s obvious but yesterday we were solid at the back, albeit against a woeful Bolton,

Poor game all round.
Forget & move on.

The first sentence was subjective.
The second sentence should read " Learn and move on ".

It's only subjective in your opinion!

A fair summary.
You can analyse it to death but it was a substandard game lacking in any real quality.

Make your judgements at the end of the season. People were on here when Ollie came and were singing his praises, give one or two. Give the bloke a chance.

I too am baffled by some of Ollies pearls of wisdom. However he does know his football & has livened up this forum. I like the guy & believe he will turn us round before the end of this season. Rock on.
