Very very unsure about him. His passing today has been terrible (he's kicked the ball out of play instead of finding a teammate several times) and now he's given them the opportunity to 'win' a penalty (still don't think it actually was one) through poor control.

Well tbf we've missed a 1 on 1 and forced a great diving save out of their keeper, as well as a couple of other chances which have gone just past the post and bar. It's not been completely dire in an attacking sense, and we're only behind cos of an ill brained defensive member-up.

edit: still think we need someone with more presence up front like

Do you believe throwing another striker at the tons we already bought in will help? Who we going to bring in? What do you think they will do different to what we already have? We already missed out on 3 strikers, clearly we still can't compete with the clubs that have more than one person with money on the board or football celeb vanity projects like Salford. We need to live in reality and get what we have fit and develop them this season. "sign more players" is not the answer to everything, we've had too many bad seasons where we sign like 30 players and none make much difference.

I think people we have will come good and start producing, just need some patience and a reality check.

We've actually looked liked scoring, more so than the other games. Stupid pen, and the poor backpass almost made it 0-2, Sort of mistakes you make when players are not used to one another? Let's hope the lack of fitness doesn't lead to our usual second half dip.

Could have easily had 4 goals there and we’ve actually played well. Tilley needs to do more and Idehen worries me. He’s done well for a youngster, but let’s be honest, we’ll be better with Pollock or waterfall in there.

Keep this up and we should get a couple of goals. Nothing against the lad, but please don’t bring Boyd on as a sub again. Still not sure how it’s possible the both Jackson and Sisay aren’t on the bench.

Don't want to turn into one of those XG loving advanced football statistic nerds but creating regular chances is the most important part of scoring goals on a consistent basis. Yes, having more clinical attacking players helps with this, but if you keep carving out good opportunities like that (as we have all half) then sooner or later some of them are likely to end up in the net. And anyway you've completely brushed past the last sentence in my previous post.
Posted by: drbell, September 19, 2020, 3:57pm; Reply: 67
First half thoughts
Tilley needs to put more effort in. Beaten to ball by fullback numerous times early on by just being less interested. Edwards really showing his need for better decision making. I've still not seen anything in Taylor. Preston looked good again. Clifton really surprised and impressed me for first 20 mins then disappeared.
Definitely a penalty.
So unlucky to have balled cleared off line on 45 mins. Probably should have scored or at least done better on a couple of occasions.
They probably should have had a man sent off for 2 yellows at least, neither of which were given.
Towell for them has bossed everything.

What do they have that we don’t already have?

I’m glad you asked, are you forgetting how utterly woeful Green was last year? 2 goals in the league for an entire season, now he’s our best option. I’m sure he’s a nice bloke and might do well, but he’s not league standard anymore IMO.

Our other 3 options haven’t played a league game and Hanson is injured yet again.

You can see it as negative, I’d like to think I’m a fairly realistic fan but to see our striking options and to be happy is completely and utterly naive.

Come out second half guns blazing and we might sneak this.

As most have said Tilley is really struggling against Tourey he's being out muscled, beaten in the air and struggling to cover him defensively.

2 half games in I don't see what Taylor brings to the side. Opening 10 minutes bad pass after bad pass after bad pass, then he's completely disappeared for the last 35 minutes. Can't wiat for Rose to be fully fit thought he did a great job in the holding role against Morecombe.

We could easily be winning this but its just not happening for us in that final third of the pitch. Idehan and Ohman once again impressing Idehan especially he looks alot calmer this week thought he looked a little jittery last weekend.

I notice you do not have a flipping clue who we could bring in that has something we don't already have. Says it all really, you just want a new striker because it's exciting for the fans to see a new face and hope they'll be good. Not even going to entertain the whining about Green or that Hanson has an injury.

Name a player who is available, will come here now, we can afford and is better than what we have. You can even go ahead and suggest it to the GTFC board and IH as you clearly know more about what we need and what's available.

We were actively trying to sign Omar Bogle, so there is clearly scope to bring someone in. It's down to the management to identify an appropriate striker, not the job of the fans.

I would love to explain in full to all our black players that I’m fully in support of ending racism in all forms but can’t support a movement that wants to defund/abolish the police.

And it is exactly why I have described the UK BLM mob as jumping on the bandwaggon

Saw Salford players talking to the ref as they walked back out for the second half. Probably making sure he understands the instructions he's been given during the break. Guess shows how it is when you have powerful backers with connections. Honestly hope they do get promoted just so we don't have to play them again because it's always like this.

It's either handball from Hewitt (the ball was blasted at him from a few feet away and i'm not even sure he was in the area in the first place), or a 'foul' by Ohman, which where clearly flipping wasn't one cos all he was doing was shepherding the Salford attacker away from the goal as he's completely entitled to do? Absolutely flipping bent corruption.

It's gonna be a long winter.

1.  Gibson needs to read up on the offside rule.
2.  Tilley needs to grow some balls.
3.  Taylor needs reminding that he's not having  a kick about with some kids in Sydney Park.

Does the table even matter after two games? Though I recall people still get a stiffy over the fact we were top of the championship after a couple of games one season so maybe it does.

How we start the season matters a lot, five or six defeats in the first 7 or 8 games and we have a mountain to climb. I just don't see us having the squad to come back from a bad start, chasing points and closing the gap to clubs above us so early in the season A good start is absolutely essential IMO

All three goals as a result of Hewitt not stopping the cross.

Lazy tackle for the first pen, not right enough for the second. Third one he’s backtracking and not close enough. Bring back Hendrie.

Who else at the club or in the area is fronting any money and keeping the club afloat? You're all dreamers who still think we are punching well above our weight and have TV money to throw around. We are a non-league side who limped to a play off final a few times and finally won one then struggled to stay afloat in the league with a fanbase who likes watching us go through managers and players like Charlie Sheen goes through hookers.

Delusional fans with a massive chip on our shoulder and it needs to stop if we ever are going to survive in this league. We gave a decent account of ourselves through the game and were let down by mistakes or referee decisions, did you think we were actually going to win against Salford? They will probably walk through the league this season. We are not a big club at this level, this is not 20-25 years ago. You are fans of a little club that needs as much local support as possible. Some fans thinking we are the biggest club in the area and are going to be playing in a massive stadium soon lol.

So post match....

- The ref got it wrong (which he probably did)
- We haven’t had enough time (debatable)
- We have no budget (no change there).

All of which will be wrapped up in the normal mumbo jumbo that the manager talks what you’re unlikely to hear is...

- I signed the players so it’s down to me if they’re not up to it
- I left experience on the bench against these cheating tw@ts
- I set the team up but didn’t change it when it wasn’t going well
- We’re very poor in the final 3rd and don’t get enough bodies in the box.

Yeah a lot of today hasn’t gone well but it’s the 2nd league game in a row that you can’t really tell what the lads are meant to be doing.

About another 5 weeks...wasn’t 6 weeks seemingly the acceptable amount of time to wait until we’re fit enough.

It’s just a bit excrement. We’ve huffed and puffed to no avail, we can blame the ref for a dodgy second penalty but 2 shocking bits of defending have meant we’ve been well beaten.

You can try all you like but find positives in a home defeat that’s seen us shift 3 or more is just straw clutching...

No end product and people on here with their rose tinted specs thinking we’re fine up front. The only team in the league to play one pre season, what a surprise.

As I said, even the happy clappers are gonna struggle to pull anything out of that other than no fornicator was in the ground to see it.

Holloway needs to have a look at himself there...

Taylor? What is he becauee he doesn’t look a footballer.
I hope Williams finds himself fast else we’ve seriously downgraded...

The rest, I mean who knows because there’s so much to unpick there...

Taylor looked like he was told to come and have a kick about, looked lost and completely out of his depth.

I really really like holloway but how can he even be positive after watching that?

He does. The two people who if they left there wouldn't even be a club anymore and maybe then our hardline nationalist friend would be happy. Plenty of room down the road in Cleethorpes for fans to watch some lower league football for him. He hates Fenty and Holloway as much as he hates non-whites.

Not the youngsters fault at all but this was a game that needed fighting spirit and experience. We look miles off where we need to be.

Don't like betting against Town, but I did today, and whilst the first half was even, we were very poor in the 2nd, with some bad defending, and not able to find a pass. We look well short on quality, but what can't be excused are our poor levels of fitness....after struggling against Morecambe, and then seeing them get hammered today, it's going to be a long season...UTM

Garbage 2nd half, might as well of played with 10 men then have Taylor on the pitch at least everyone else would of had to work harder then just have him lazily marking, passing and jogging round the pitch.

Can't argue about 2 of the penos, they were penos only complaint is when they were happening at the other end the ref oddly didn't see it that way.

Today shows we desperately need someone like Hanson back, fully fit Scannell and Rose and players like Edwards, Tilley and a few of the other young lads coming off the bench rather then starting.

Idehan, Clifton and Ohamn the only real players to praise today again.

Well we looked very jittery at the start with Macca flapping about but then settled ok , Hewitt fast asleep to give away the first, we created chances, certainly looked more positive at times than we ever did last week , plenty of players in the box but just no finish.

Allowed them far too much time to put dangerous looking balls in throughout, i think that was the shape allowing them to double up out wide.
Second goal killed the game, handball against Hewitt i am presuming...harsh an understatement...third goal Taylor too knackered to pick the pass off in the midfield and too tired to close down another cross.
Look at the centre halves if you like but a small striker heading in from inside the 6 yd box....i would expect the keeper to be somewhere in that picture.
Fourth goal...if he hadnt of been pulled back the contact on his first shot would have scored, in the heat of the moment Ohman not really thinking clearly that the game is over anyway so just let him score and avoid a suspension.

Tilley & Williams not good enough for me, Taylor tires too quickly ,  our lack of pre season games, understanding, preparation , fitness and quality in depth shining through.

Ohman red.

Only bonus is we won't see him for 3 games now.

Sorry to disappoint you, it’ll only be 1 for a professional foul, it’s violent conduct that gets you 3

As a general guide most say lets see where we are after the first 10 games, so lets not panic just yet.

After today's non performance and lack of fight, we need to see a reaction from the players and Ollie to restore some faith, come on Ollie sort it out.

Well that just got more and more painful to watch. Didn’t think the first half was too bad considering where the squad is but Taylor or Tilley should have been changed at half time. Tilley in particular was owned by their left back and Taylor was seemingly knackered and missing the whole game. I thought Green played well today, plenty of work rate and really unlucky not to get a goal drawing a great save. Clifton put in a shift. Ohman’s red card makes it easier now to shoe in a different CB pairing. Not much to say about the second half, it was terrible.

Hoping a fit Scannel, Rose and Hanson can bring much more to the team. I’d like to get a 30 min look at Sisay over the next few games.

Does Macca always dive right on Penalties?

I think the only way we are going to stay a league club this season is for it to be locked down again or clubs to fold. we have been sold down the river again. We let far too many players go just to save a few bob , and replace them with kids and non league players . Olley thinks he is better than he is by a long way . you cant take kids and non league players and expect them to just step up and be wonder kids over night . the aim is to win games now not keep looking for later on . If this is the best we can do given we are all suposed to have the same budget , is it realy worth it

It wasn't long ago there was a thread on here about Town getting promoted and now the mood has swing the other way. It's almost certainly too early to say. We've signed a shed load of players, and had no pre-season. These early games basically are our pre-season! We're far from a well oiled machine.

IH:

"It is what it is I’m afraid. If you look back at the game, we had opportunities in the first half when it was goalless and close, probably better opportunities.

We felt there was a penalty, ref didn’t give it, and then before you know it they’ve gone up the other end and got one.

I didn’t like us after we let a goal in. Things stopped, and then our inexperience showed."

2nd Penalty:

"I was as perplexed as anyone in the ground, and there aren’t many of us, but I don’t know what the second penalty was for.

For me, it looked like the bloke belted it at my fella, and if it hits his hand, it can’t possibly be deliberate, and they go and get that one.

After that, we died, and when you’re a new group, and you’re as young as we are at the moment, that’s a bit of a worry, that’s a bit dangerous, and that’s what happened I’m afraid."

I don’t like Fenty not going to hide that fact and today’s performance underlies my reasons why! He is single handily killing the Club off again and praise over how we are being run in light of COVID are very short sighted.

Pitch: terrible as we did nothing to it during lock down, look at other clubs in our league, their pitches are mint. How many clubs in league 2 closed up shop and did nothing during lockdown? Looking at other clubs on TV we most definitely seem to have the worst pitch.

Signings: have we actually signed anyone on a permanent deal where any of us are looking and thinking decent? Then again how can Holloway sign a decent player with Fenty & Co insisting on COVID clauses in players contracts? Good business sense yes however why would any decent player sign up for this, especially as we are in the very minority inserting such clauses? A decent player is going to be in demand and simply is going to wait to get the most that he can as football careers are very short, those coming to town are coming because their options are very limited elsewhere.

Fenty still pulls all the strings at the club as he’s the only person with serious money on the board. Despite this he does not want to put money in and is happy to take money off us, the supporters via things like the crowd funder, reworded terms and conditions for season tickets that sees no refunds and share issues, yet not put in any himself. If this is wrong Fenty then why don’t you and your Merry board friends come out and tell us how much money you have collectively put into the club so far this year? You won’t because the answer is ZERO, yet the supporters whom many have nothing try to give our club everything in order for it to survive.

Plenty of supporters questioned this and additional funds raised for the club.
Even questioning were the monies would be used brought some interesting responses from certain posters.

Perhaps you could send this to Holloway for him to use when he runs out of excuses and his comedy value finally expires (send it soon as it won't be long) or if you are really keen for Fenty to put some money in (and therefore increase the benign loan that everyone is always knocking him for) perhaps he could give Holloway his alleged £100,000 investment back so he can go quietly.

That’s if he’s even put this money in, saying and doing are two very different things. Holloway has to stand by the signings that he’s made however I do feel that he has been shackled to a large extent by the Club.

Failure to have a pre season imo is because of penny pinching again .failure to have enough time or players for pre season games is just asking for trouble and that is what we have now . Too many players that are not any where near league standard is olly`s fault, and he should have known better. It looks like the max budget is 1.5 mill , but he has been told to only spend 1 mill or less. we are all suposed to be in the same boat but again we are well behind most clubs at our level. i also think with having a short pre season some players have broken down and got injured trying to push it too far and fast

Change the f*****g record dredging up the same old same old doesn’t help.

JF and the boys have in the past made some indefensible gaffs but fact that the club has had a drastic cut in income but still isn’t operating in an overdraft would suggest they’ve done the first thing on their job description and protected and safe guarded the football club.

Yeah we could have paid every player 100% of their wages and given Clarke, Chas and everyone else IH was talking to what they demanded but would that have been the right thing to do under the current uncertain times? I’m not convinced TBH. Would we have 6 points from 6 at this stage, who knows.

I thought we where crap today but most clubs at our level only have a first 11 or so, the rest are in selection terms possibles rather than probables and due to injury and players being “not ready” today’s team consisted mainly of possibles.

If you want to criticise someone I think IH made some gaffs today the main one was that he should have used the tiny bit of experience he had available to him rather than leaving it on the bench.

I think we’re going to struggle but it’s too early to say to what extent.

There are plenty of teams local to us. Surely we could have arranged a friendly with Hull, Lincoln, Gainsborough, Boston, Sheffield Utd/Wed, Rotherham, Leeds, Doncaster?

Boston reported that we wanted a friendly with them but they rejected it because they had only just reported back but surely we could have fitted something in a week later?

Two games in and a lot of fans have thrown the towel in.  It's pathetic.  Yeah we need to change things but I think a lot of fans enjoy a season of moaning. If their keeper hadn't made a wonderful save off Green, things could have been different. Ohman's header was a good effort too and the keeper just got his toe to it.  Could have been a different story.  Hewitt didn't seem to care and Taylor was bone idle.  Tilley was beaten psychologically from the get go.  If you don't want to play for the Mariners sodomist off.  Get the players on who want to play and I am sure it will click.

My view as well. Far to early to judge. In football as in life your going to get some misfortune come your way as what happened to us yesterday when some of them penalty's were given against us. Hopefully things start picking up in the next 3 or so games and we get some points on the board.
