They are probably going to tie the new kit release in with the Bogle announcement to ensure maximum interest.

Errea rocking a retro pinstripe vibe this year:

Anyone fancy a reprisal of this 90's classic / monstrosity (delete as appropriate)?

Got visions of it being black with white pinstripes. Anyone able to convert the 2 kits above so we can see how it may look?

If it's pinstripes, it has to be a remake of that Ciba-Geigy classic and a white background surely?

Ready for something different, last few kits have been very similar imo

The Cheltenham style could work for us with proper stripes and white sleeves.  Would love to see Red numbers return but the club seem to have gone off them for some reason.

Looking forward to getting a shirt, though if it's really thin pinstripes or an all-black kit then I won't bother.

I think it has to be radical because shirt sales are potentially our biggest source of income for a while yet. If it's too similar to the last couple of years then more people will think twice.

Can't really go off what other designs Errea makes for other clubs they make a different style for each they actually put effort into it unlike Nike

This isn’t entirely true. They’re like many other companies and use set templates, although errea don’t tend to just use their basic templates for lower clubs and better for higher placed teams.

There’s only been a couple of errea kits that have really stood out for me and I’ve always been critical of the quality.

I can see us having a kit similar to Lincoln which would be a no from me but in all honesty, there’s only so many ways you can make stripes look exciting.

Each to their own though I guess...

I actually think the pin stripes from the 60s looked smart and at the time were a radical change from the stripes of the time. We were the first team to change, which made us stick out from the rest.

We were also the first team to play in coloured shorts an socks in the 60s. Before us, they were only black or white.

I like the Cheltenham one, but the Lincoln one is cack.  I don't speak for everyone here, but I think the days of collars should be long gone.

Whilst it wasn't quite pinstripes, the shirt from the early conference days that had thick black stripes and thin white stripes actually looked really good.

That's the one.  I must admit he was the player I pictured wearing it, but I was struggling to remember his name!  That shows you how much I've tried to eradicate those 6 years from my mind; I can remember everything from 1989 until 2010, and I'm not kidding.

That was the reason we left Nike. You get what you’re given; that was their ‘striped’ template that year so it was tough titties.

Shirt sales were, quite understandably, appalling that year.

I love the Lotto kit and always liked the diadora kit too. Obviously the 1982 adidas kit is the one though. I’d also like to see us have an away kit like one of our very early kits, may be not the blue and white thin hoops though.

Back in the 1950's Town's away colour was was always red shirts.

The real radical strip was the 1960-63 version of white shirts with a black keyhole neck and black cuffs. Very "continental" at the time.

It’s funny how subjective these things are. I usually like Errea’s work but I thought these were all pretty terrible, in particular the home shirt which looks to be entirely black except for some two third height stripes on the front.

Anyway, more important to things to worry about at the minute. If I get to see the players wear any of these in the flesh next season, then I’ll be happy.

Home kit was either designed by a ref or they misread the spec they needed to work to and added stripes ten seconds before it was due to be presented. Away is ok (blue again though - yawn!) but the third is really nice. I actually the monochromatic badges - they looked good on all last seasons training gear.

I know this is very subjective but that shirt is absolutely awful,

I would say the back of the shirt is black as well so 3/4 of Grimsby Town‘s traditional/famous black and white stripe shirt is black....awful, absolutely awful

It actually looks alright in the rendered image below, where the black panel doesn’t look overbearing. I do wonder if whoever signed it off had a bit of a “what the fúck have I done?” moment once they saw it worn.

I know they're Umbro but I really like Bournemouth's new home kit, would have been good to see a black and white version of that to see if it'd work.

I don’t think it works on the real shirt because of the gradient towards the top. I don’t think it would look so bad as a Lincoln shirt for example because the contrast isn’t as stark with red and white as it is with black and white. I can’t moan too much about it - it’s not like I could design anything better but I don’t like having a home shirt that is only a quarter to a third stripey.
Posted by: aldi_01, July 28, 2020, 8:47am; Reply: 61
Is that training gear?

That’s awful, I mean the home shirt looks like a training kit.

I’m truth they’re all pretty is inspiring. I mean the salmon pink one isn’t the worst but it’s still training kit esque. The blue, the less said about it the better.

The pink would be better if not was Palermo colour pink, little knitted collar, black and white trim, black shorts pink socks.

Makes Lincoln’s look decent, why didn’t we go for the collar design, it would’ve been option as I’d imagine errea had 2/3 templates and offered them to clubs. We’ve got the same template at Cheltenham and fundamentally three shirts the same style but different colour ways.

Ah wel, guess you can’t please all the people all of the time but that’s the worst for a long time. Since that half and half Nike monstrosity...

I like all 3 although I would never buy the away or third. I can see why people would be disgruntled with the home with the solid black top portion but I think it’s a decent twist on the traditional design. I mean there isn’t much you can do with stripes.

Nice promotion kits (clap)
Posted by: aldi_01, July 28, 2020, 9:31am; Reply: 66
We’ve had a couple of good designs with errea for home shirts. We had a similar version to Pescara’s home shirt which was cool as was the shirt with the knitted V neck and cuffs.

These look like training kits to me.

It must be a nightmare for parents who have 1/2 kids that like town with three new kits every season, I appreciate they can say no but even so...
Posted by: Heisenberg, July 28, 2020, 9:48am; Reply: 67
My take on it is this:

Home kit - nothing wrong with being a bit different now and again, but why the white collar?  That completely cheapens it.  And nobody wants v-necks nowadays

Away kit - great colours, no problem with the black-only badge, but again it's v-neck.

3rd kit - daft collar.  One of our kits ALWAYS has a daft collar, this time they've ALL got a daft collar!  And the colour ain't great.

In summary, and I sort of saw this coming; time to move away from Errea, and stop letting Dave Smith make all the decisions, he's obviously got bad taste.

If the black and white on the shirt was inverted I'd like the home shirt a lot more. Fancy having stripes for only three quarters of the height at the front and having a gradient in to those three quarters, thereby making it only two thirds striped! No red socks again too, not a fan. Also personally believe our change kit should be predominantly red but not too fussed. All subjective innit.
Posted by: drbell, July 28, 2020, 11:26am; Reply: 70
Funny how different people's opinions are.
I really like the home shirt. Was hoping for a bit more black and I think it looks great. Will be ordering as soon as the kids shirts are available.

And let's keep the negativity in check. Honest opinions are great, but this is our club, and these are the shirt the players that will make us proud will be wearing. Its impossible to make something everyone loves, so if you hate it, it doesn't make it a bad shirt.

The club want and need our love and support. Up the mariners.

Can't remember the last time I bought a Town top and I generally think they're much about nothingness, but I quite like the home effort.  Must be difficult to make it remotely different when your remit is black and white stripes.

I get that it looks like a training top but at least they've done something different than change the thickness of the piping on the collar.

Third isn't the worst, although I'm looking forward to seeing other Errea teams in the same kits but another colourway.

We are served the oldest tripe in the newest ways with this supplier. Time for a change, but I've been saying this for some time.

This one gets thrown out every year, and I have to say, I don't really get it. I can't think of a shirt style that lends itself to variation more than stripes.

You can change the width of the stripes, plain sleeves / stripey sleeves, plain back / stripey back, solid stripes / fades, pinstripes, mix up the collar, and so on. We're able to go with either red, black or white socks as well without there being too much bed wetting.

Certainly more license for creativity than say, Liverpool or Leeds, whose kits are pretty much always going to be a solid colour right the way through. I'd actually say Errea have given us some very different kits over the years, I just don't think this year's is very good. That's a personal thing, others seem to like it, just too much black for me. Particularly from the side / back.

None of the kits in the 90's had red socks though, unless you count red at the top as being red. Never really got the thing about us needing to play in red socks, it's not even been a majorly common pattern historically. My only guess is that a good majority of regulars here started following town in the 70's as kids and have fond memories of regularly having red socks in the kit. It went away in the early 80's and never came back except the odd season until 10 years ago.

Just realised why I really don't like that home strip. It looks like it was designed by a 7 year old who was making  a black strip and got bored of colouring in half way down do added some tripes to it to save having to do all the colouring in

Where is the anger, surely people can have a view on the new kit as they do every time a new one comes out?

Anger would imply people are saying it’s excrement and being vitriolic towards the club, I think people have just shared their views.

My personal view is once again Errea have delivered a poor kit but then in reality, I think clubs and kit manufacturers know, as with anything football related, they’ll still shift units.

Look at all those fools who parted with their cash, some fo which were grown men and wore them, when Manure released that monstrosity of a Grey kit, or the pink one from last year or the year before. Perhaps this is why kit manufacturers are delivering uninspiring kits.

Some will like the kits and that’s their opinion. I buy a home shirt every year although I’ve missed a couple of errea ones out becauee I didn’t like them. I’ll pick this one up at the end of the season in the sale. Others will purchase it on the day it’s released.

Personally, if I’m dropping 50quid in the club shop right now I’d be buying the retro Nisa kit.

You say that, but whenever any kit supplier has dared to change the thickness of the stripes, added faded stripes or generally gone away from the very traditional black and white stripes it has been met with some hostility.  Going back a long way but the, now popular, Ciba pinstripe one wasn't all that popular at the time, but there was little point of ringing Clubcall in 1993 to tell a recorded message of your dislike.

Probably is harder to do anything with Leeds or Liverpool kits, or any other club with just one colour.  But I'm struggling to think of any club that's got a great deal of scope to change it from season to season.

That all said, the pic you've put up from the side is the first I've looked at from that angle and I'm less keen.

Problem with the Errea kits is that they use material that you’d expect from a cheap knock off Premier League shirt from a Spanish market stall.

Don’t like the home kit but a couple of younger lads at work said they really liked it , so perhaps a winner with younger fans.  Don’t mind the blue one probably the one I will buy and like someone else said the third kit resembles a prawn 😳 not for me

Black and white checker shirts same as Boavista in Portugal would do me.

No season tickets, so no £10 vouchers for shirt when they go on sale on Saturday!

No season tickets so no 10% off either!

Can't see sales will be that good compared to previous seasons. No just the vouchers but a lot of our supporters have had a drastic drop in income.

Correct. We had the EFL badges on the sleeves, despite facing relegation and in fact would never wear the shirt in the football league.

I understand that shirts generate income, and I guess that’s how we justify a new one every year but it just seems that now is not necessarily the right time to release a new one.

Rightly or wrongly we’ve just had a crowd fund campaign, which ironically, I personally know people who saw large drops in their personal income still donating to something which isn’t really that important in the grand scheme of things.

Aside from being a bit excrement, I just don’t think buying a football shirt will be high on people’s priorities, but then everyone suddenly seemed to want excrement from B&Q a few weeks back so who the intercourse knows...

4500 season tickets at 150 each  = 675000
3000 season tickets at 200 each  = 600000

is this not simple maths? meaning that with the right promoting, 50 less for each ticket can get you 75000 more if you can sell1500 more........are there 1500 town fans waiting for a reduction? I know these are not accurate season ticket prices, but m y conservative version assume it can  be done on less money..........

There lies an example of opinions because I thought it was awful, as did a fair few Juve fans, although still infinitely better than this seasons.

I just still can’t get beat ours just resembling a training kit. The black kills it. Should’ve been more white to make it stand out a little.

Personally again I would enjoy it being different, like our shirt. Maybe I'm just not that fussed compared to most. I buy a shirt to give the club some money, and treat myself to a new top.

Even at 10% this gives you an indication of just how many units they shift when they can cover the cost of big signings with shirt sales...

Thanks. I found those figures too. Hoped we got more. Really surprising how small a proportion the club get. Almost think the club (well ours at least) could make more money by not selling shirts, so fans spend the money on items with a better margin.

The club will make more from my 2 entries on the name card than from me spending £43 quid on a shirt.

There’s a much bigger margin than 6-7% in it for GTFC. For example we could afford to offer £10 off shirts in previous years. So there was a good enough profit selling them at £32.99. This season they are full price.

And then there’s the clubs disgraceful rip off price of kids replica kits. There’s no VAT on children’s clothing, but when you take 20% VAT off the adult prices they are cheaper than the children’s prices.

But which  group of fans should the club liase with? You only have to follow the posts on this topic to see a wide range of views on the new kit. Personally if I want a new shirt then I get one regardless of design. It's just a kit and it will only be in use for 1 season so what's the big deal? It won't affect the performance of the players or bring increased fans into the ground (when that is permitted). It's hardly the end of the world is it, especially when you consider all that is happening with Covid. But then again it  does give some fans another opportunity to have a go at the club.

Many of the sportswear brands would argue that kit and its design and technology does impact performance.

I think the year they did a vote was a relative success. At least if people cry arsed but didn’t vote then they were just daft.

That way also allows you to reach a wider range. You can’t just ask trust members as they’re only a small percentage of the fan base, nor could you ask Terry’s regulars or readers of the fishy, followers on twitter etc but a vote on the clubs website or even a voting slip in the shop would at least give almost all fans an opportunity.

Personally, I find the quality of errea kits terrible and there’s only really been a couple that have been a good design. The argument you can’t do a lot with black and white stripes doesn’t really wash either as clubs have changed it up. I’m not saying letting a kid loose with a crayola crayon and draw the lines a la Juve but I can’t see past training kit with our home shirt...

Well they would , wouldn't they.

Dont think I will have an opinion on any kit until its modelled by a smart looking girlie as has happened on a couple of previous releases,  and no Wife Of MM  would never put a Town shirt on for me she generally dislikes football and even more so Town :o

Aye, didn't they used to get a couple of easy on the eye young girls from the club shop or ticket office to model it sometimes. Definitely helps lol.

Robbie Williams was part of the design process.

Does make you laugh & proves the point supporters will buy anything the club puts out regardless of design.

Quite like the black and white one, I suspect I might be in the minority though!

Not for us either before anyone starts!
