Hello all Mariners,
I am glad to see Ian Holloway is steering you up the table, and look forward to what should be a very entertaining game on Saturday. I was just looking to see how you are all feeling ahead of the game.

Personally felt we didn’t see the best of you in our meeting back in December and I anticipate more of a fight from your lot this time around.

To be honest, looking forward to this game. Appears both teams want to play "football" the right so expecting an entertaining game.
Can't see you ripping us a new ar$ehole like you did at BP...

Any Swindon fan coming to BP that day would have seen a club in almost terminal decline after nearly two decades of failure. On and off the pitch it was dire. Previous manager Jolley* had lost the plot, and was on the way to being sacked, and the players were square pegs in round holes and had a very defensive mindset. We were lucky if we ever got into the opposition box.

The team and the town has been energised by Holloway's arrival; he has made some astute signings and got our existing players believing in his way of playing the game and playing more to their potential. As a result we are much more attack minded, scoring more goals and look a decent team going forward.

You will rightly be firm favourites, but we should put up a much better show this time around. You will know we won at Colchester recently with three goals, one of which was a team goal involving 10 players from our box to theirs, and a wonder individual goal.

We are in much better shape, but as always may the best team win.

* Sorry - Jolley had already been sacked by then but his legacy lived on!

Dear Mariner,
Yes, you were in turmoil at the time so it’s understandable. I saw the goals against Colchester and was very impressed. My son has recently purchased the special Charles Vernam player on FIFA (I must admit I have no clue what it is) and have seen he’s in good form. Colchester have swept us aside three times this season (9-1 on aggregate) so I was very impressed with the win.

There’s a special Charles Vernam player on FIFA? We really are finally on the map!

Colchester have done the double over Swindon already this season winning 3-0 at Swindon and 3-1 at home, they also beat them 3-0 in the EFL Cup, so we're nailed on for a win obviously.

We all know that's how football works don't we. ;)

I think both teams will be happy with a draw,

It wont be a boring 0-0 draw but an entertaining 1-1 or 2-2.

Personally think we’d be a little annoyed with a draw due to our home form - not lost since September in the league at home - but a draw wouldn’t surprise me with the form you are in. Holloway looks to have completely turned it around.

4-0 defeat incoming...

We’d settle for a point now but really can’t see us getting anything, even with improved performances.

We’ve still got a poor 45 minutes in us, as seen at Bradford and you’d expect someone like Swindon to punish us for that, unlike Bradford, who were equally as bobbins...

We did nothing against you that day. Probably in part due to the rut we’d found ourselves in combined with a lack of quality, but I’d say more because your of your outstanding side in comparison. Grant and Doughty bossed the game, they are top class for this division.

I think we can give you a good game on Saturday now though. We are a completely different side these days with a new mindset, and we have Vernam, showing form worthy of a league above ours. If you beat us I’d be surprised if it’s by more than 1 goal.

I would be happy with a draw. We have already had a couple of notable away wins (Exeter and Colchester) and its unlikely we can keep on pulling this results off against top sides on their own patch.

Holloway said he isn't afraid of losing and I think that's the way any team should play. If you fear losing you end up parking the bus and it often doesn't work. Let's hope we give you lot a run for your money and it's an entertaining game. A point would be good but another Vernam hat-trick would be better.

I have booked a budget hotel in Swindon on Friday night based on not wanting to drive 350 miles in a day so less post match travel stress I hope. First visit to STFC and looking forward to a competitive game with further integration of our new signings. A point will be a bonus.

Gutted to miss this one as quite like Swindon as a town. One of the best curry houses I've been to (the biplob!) and some great pubs to boot.

And also helps that I've never Seen town lose there either. First time I went was a 3-3 draw with a somewhat cracking free kick from galli I seem to recall.

The biplob is absolutely fantastic. Haven’t been in a while, but fond memories - although I normally regret it on the toilet the day after.

It'll not be your satnav you'll be effing and jeffing at but everyone else that hasn't a clue which direction they need to go,it's a heads down free for all. ;D

I only had to use the Magic Roundabout once and got through it without too many problems. You do notice the panicked look in the eyes of every driver you pass as you go around/through it, however!

Must admit, I’ve used it a few times and never had an issue. I knew where I wanted to go and got where I needed to be.

I suspect that’s why it doesn’t always work properly because people only focus on where they’re going and no other road users.

To be fair, first time I used it I didn’t realise.

Don’t be too concerned about the Magic Roundabout. The locals have been guessing their way around it for years. Eventually you find a formula that works.

First time I used the magic roundabout happened to coincide with 3 fire engines going out at the same time! All was good after that though

Never been to Swindon so IL see if I can get lost on it tomorrow. Having said that it can't be any worse than driving in Beirut last summer.

It's a 350 mile round trip for me, taking my boy and first time I've done Swindon, spoke to our ticket office today and apparently there's plenty of tickets left, so on that basis, I would say 450-500 would be a decent turn out..

Talking of being chained to a radiator - reminded me of a great non-footy story.  Every man of a certain age will remember.

It was in the 1970s, or early 1980s.  In this country, Devon from a distant memory.

A young attractive American woman, (McKinley?)  of Mormon religion, chained a man/ boyfriend to her radiator. This went on for a long time.   Purely for the purpose of having frequent sex with him. He was not so keen.  (Why being chained up was necessary is lost in the midst of time).  😁😃

A very big and juicy trial in its day.  About par for the course now.  Think that she got found guilty but only remember the salacious details.  Have had a higher regard for female Mormon’s ever since.

I imagine it will be a very entertaining game with both teams playing decent attacking football, very tempting......

Made it to my hotel. Sat nav avoided magic roundabout! Beware scammers at Leicester Forest services. Irish fella begging for cash to help him buy fuel to ' get my wife and kids back to Ireland' as his credit card had stopped working. He had me going at first but my mendacity asserted itself in time. He stormed off, railing at my 'interrogation'. Smelt a rat when he said he could take my details and send my money from Ireland. Seems it's a variation on an old service area scam.

Beirut is great fun. Porsche s.u.v. In 1 lane overloaded 1970s Mercedes in the next and shepherd with his flock in the other. You use your horn to navigate your way through. Learning Lebanese checkpoint etiquette was a godsend when we drove from Phalangist Bsharri over the snow covered mountains to the Bekaa valley. Great holiday.absolutely loved the place

That happened to me at the same place about 2 months ago! I didn’t feel at all bad telling him I couldn’t fill his tank up because my company pays and I’d get in trouble - not quite true, but his reaction reaffirmed my deep distrust of him. Glad you weren’t suckered in.

Forty years ago, my dad was asked by a shamrock tarmac gang if he could pay in full so that they could buy the material they needed to complete his driveway in Habrough. Guess the rest. Dad was a Chapel going, trusting guy who never effed or jeffed but his faith was severely tested on this occasion.

Someone should have told Terry Waites’ kidnappers. They’d have saved themselves the bother of installing heating.

Beirut is good place to visit apart from the traffic. Went to Lebanon last summer with the family for a holiday. Not the most popular destination for a holiday I know.

We had a whale of a time, hotel by the corniche, great food n wine, lovely roof top bars in the old quarter, went up to Jounieh and Tripoli down the Bekaa Valley to Baelbek and Zahle with a wine tasting trip round chateaux Mused to top it off
Have to say our 2 holidays in Syria had been even better, but fear I'm not to get back there in my lifetime

Sounds similar to the places we visited while Lebanon.
