Hello to all Grimsby Town fans,
I am Ian Clover, Swindon Town fan and EFL aficionado. Glad to see you have appointed Ian (great name) Holloway to the club, hope it all goes well.

The news down here is following his mutual termination of his contract at Swindon, Jermaine McGlashan will he signing for you. He’s a winger who has struggled for form with us but on his day can be a very dangerous player in this league. He spent some time out on loan to Chesterfield this season.

Having been at Cheltenham and Aldershot he would've played against us previously, no doubt...anyone remember him?

Will know Jake Hessenthaler from his time at Gillingham.

He hasn't scored that many goals, but looking at that video, he certainly knows how to finish!

A little update: A few National League sides are unsurprisingly interested in him too with Barnet seemingly one of the clubs keen on McGlashan. However, I’m sure if you can guarantee him football (not sure on your winger situation) he will sign for you.

Haha, no his father! In all seriousness, I know one of his close mates who told me about Barnet a few hours ago. Sounds dodgy, I’m aware, but it’s all true. Think he’d be a decent signing for you lot. Didn’t look like you had a lot of pace when we played earlier in the season.

We have pace but only in 2 players, which as it happened, weren't on the pitch when we played you...must say you did tear us a new one that day..
Not sure we really need another out of form player, we're struggling for confidence as it is to be honest.

We’ve been impressive on the road but thought 3-0 flattered us a little. Yeah I understand why you wouldn’t want him, but if (and it’s a big if) you can get his confidence back, he’s an unreal player. Will cause the best full backs in this division all sorts of problems but he can be a little wasteful in the final third.

I don't think any of us are sure about our winger situation to be honest  ;)

I get what your saying Ian, and I suppose we have a manager who has a knack of getting confidence back into players, just not sure we are currently in a position to be taking risks.
Would have said if this had been the summer window we'd have probably taken a punt on him

See, I don’t think this is a bad time to take a risk. If we’re being honest I don’t think you’ll go down so I reckon you have a free hit for the rest of this season, although that may be quite boring. Think it’s about trying new systems and players with the hope of building for next season. Not sure if you’d agree with that though.

There is a revolution going on here. ;D

Even our wingers aren’t sure either. ;)

I can't see it tbh, Holloways said today his phones melted to his ear with everyone offering up players to come here, yes we need a winger but can't see us commiting to one in their 30s that's nothing too special when we're not actually desperate for one this season, probably be a loan deal if we can't get someone that we'd like to commit to long term

Assuming Gibson goes back, we need a left back more than anything else. He wants to give youth a chance so wonder if this will be going Starbucks chance?

Thanks for the info and thoughts Ian - nice to have a friendly constructive away fan on here rather than the usual inbred Scunt invader.
i was thinking similarly yesterday when i saw McMahon resign at Macc and 4-5 of their players likely to leave as well. as you say it's a bit of a free hit to tinker with tactics and systems and perhaps allow another couple of our young players to have a try out

Doing the Quest EFL has given him an ideal opportunity to suss out the players in L1/L2 on a completely objective basis. He is up to date and I doubt there is a player in any L1/L2 or even Championship squad he does not have an opinion about.

Other clubs will be hoping he has a budget to match his ambitions but even if JF dug deeper it would still be unlikely we could afford name players just now.

No worries, not a fan of Scunny either. Very cocky before our game on the opening day and seem a very bitter fan base. Yeah I think Holloway has a free hit and can build on something for next season - a lot like what Wellens did with us last season.

from one of Jermaine's old team mates at Aldershot

Haha! Thanks mate. Happy new year to you too! Jermaine is good. Absolutely rapid! Don’t ask him to cross the ball though or it could end up behind the goal! 😂

If he is wasteful in the final third, then he will fit in very well here.

That is, when we get into the final third.  We could do with a winger and Sir Ian is excellent at getting the best from players.
