We certainly weren't outclassed today and some would say were unlucky to lose if not win it but it's a results based business.

He's had his chance now for me and the Limbrick project just hasn't worked unfortunately.

Start smelling the coffee Mr Fenty and get a new manager in ASAP.

We have players who can be tricky running at defenders in the opposition box but they never do so “it’s a yes from me”!

I think he should he’s been given enough time and in that time we haven’t even scored a goal, just not good enough, I know it goes deeper than just the manager but we need someone in who can get the best out of this team, this team have had some good wins this season (Exeter away etc) so there is a team capable of competing and winning there.

The problem its not Limbrick's fault Green couldn't put the ball in the net, and Hendre should have scored, fair enough Limbrick coaching should be working on Max Wright crossing.

Grimsby are very goal shy, Jolley has left us with a load of rubbish.

Also Akheem Rose isn't going to make it awful effort late on.

Harry Cardwell needs to gone on January.

He's not had much luck with the fixtures thrown at him and players spurning good chances. We looked like a cohesive, hard working unit today, trying mainly to play football the right way. I couldn't see the 'penalty' tackle on Ogbu from my seat in the Main, but I've just listened to Limbrick post match and he is adamant that it was a pen. I can only go on what i saw today, but sometimes a manager is guilty by association when he has stepped up from assistant. If we had appointed someone else straight away and had exactly the same run of results, people would be saying 'give him a chance' or 'give him a transfer window'. It's a tough call but i haven't seen us enough to know how much we have improved under him, but my nephew is quite knowledgeable and he say we have improved a lot in our play since he took over. I was quite pleasantly surprised by our performance this afternoon and you don't always get what you deserve in games.

Of course it is down to the manager. We cannot just keep on every week saying he was unlucky, they played well, they did everything but score, they were the better side ...... the table does not lie.

The goals for column is a disgrace. OK Hanson was out but he hasn’t been out for every game and he is not exactly prolific either. So whether the fault on the pitch is in selection, training or form - the buck stops with the manager. The big bucks evidently stop with the board.

But have to disagree with some of this as the quality of our play is much improved and much easier on the eye  than under a MJ and thus it can be argued he is getting the best from them. Today we delivered a lot of good crosses and had good opportunities to score and if Fenty actually agreed to bring in two decent strikers in Jan I think we would be fine but would also like another midfield player adding to the squad.

Vernam was decent today but clearly lacked that confidence to carry the ball those few extra yards into the penalty box where his tricks may have won a penalty or given him a better opportunity to score.

As I said on another thread I would like a total clear out of our forward players but that will not happen overnight and Limbrick can only work with what he has. I would give him the festive and new year period and see how that goes and if goals and results still don’t come then a new a Manager must be brought in and JF should be ensuring he has a fall back position in place, he’s certainly had long enough to do so.

We have three winnable games coming up, assuming Macclesfield game goes ahead.

AL should manage these games before firing the bullet, but there is nothing to stop the Board from continuing to look for a replacement and sounding out prospective replacements who they would want on their shopping list for new players.

Three wins should secure  AL future. Three defeats and he surely has to go.

Yes but now not soon enough. Green 90 mins too long. Then swop Rose for Clifton. Spotted their formation change  AFTER the goal.

Can we really afford to potentially go 3 more games without  a win!!!!

We could be bottom of the league if that sequence was to occur.

Like I said last week - this is not a manager issue - the temporary manager has got us playing ok with the personnel available - we need a couple of decent strikers immediately.

Just going by the thread title - what's the point in sacking the temporary manager - when the allegation is there is no money?
If there is no money - then the club is 'doomed' anyway.

I feel for AL and Ben Davis for that matter.
They've got us playing better football and have shown they believe in keeping the ball and passing it more, but ultimately they've still not got us firing up front...goosed me today with their substitutions too, should've swapped Green for Rose, and I'm not sure Clifton sitting in front of the defence is the right idea too...
Time for him move aside and let a new man take the reigns, but to be honest I'm not averse to him staying on as a number 2...

No ill feeling toward the guy but we need someone else. AL has had his hands tied but to not score a goal is criminal over so many games. Whoever does get the job must make a new centre forward their priority of course. Not a Hanson, Green or Ogbu but a Surridge type who other League Two sides seem to loan but we never do.

This has got the feel of Neil Woods' tenure all over again, and we know where that ended up.

There's no getting away from the fact that football is a results driven game and Limbrick hasn't, unfortunately, delivered. Problem is, given Fenty's previous in hiring managers it's unlikely we'd end up with anything better than the present incumbent.

In an effort to try and generate interest why don't the board try a different format for appointing the manager? Strictly Come Managing style, where fans vote out the worst applicant each week? I realise we could well be totally phucked by the time we got a new manager, but..........

It is no good being Jim Bowen and keeping on all the time  with "look at what you could have won". At some point a bullet has to be bitten. For me, the one and only reason AL would keep his job is not because the side is playing OK and is unlucky, it is if the Scrooges in the boardroom cannot attract someone better. If AL does keep his job it will say a lot more about Fenty & co. than about AL's abilities.

But if we don't have any money - as alleged by someone - possibly JF -  we can't afford a new manager.

If JF  really does intend to sell the club the chance of a new future free from the past would be held back. Surely the new owners should bring in their own man for a completely fresh start. The problem is can we wait that long.

Exactly. The lower we sink the harder it is to find a manager daft enough to come and the less attractive the club is to prospective buyers, if any.

It is in Fenty’s own interests to get the managerial job sorted and and the playing side of the club stabilised as a decent proposition. But if he goes for the cheap option and relies on Macclesfield, the old Luton scenario and aftermath comes back to haunt him again.

Let’s be absolutely fair to AL. Fenty, his current stooges and those who have tolerated his fuckups are to blame for this mess. If I were Anthony I’d probably rather be replaced than have my CV tainted by association. Whatafuckingmess.

BUT it’s pretty easy for Hurst - he’s got players on 3-4K a week. Whether we accept it or not, or whether we think they played well today or not, Hurst has a League One squad. A league one squad that they actually can’t afford, in real terms.

Scunny SHOULD be beating us. The fact that our team were actually marginally better has to count for something. If WE had Van Veen playing for us, we’d have won today and we’d be top half.

By the way, Van Veen disgraced himself today. What on Earth was he thinking. The police should be having a word with him. His actions were not a joke in any way shape or form. He was a tool.

Fair enough, they have a bigger budget but that isn’t the point I was making. Several posters have said we played better than them ...... but the fact is no goals again. That is the point. Scunthorpe won ugly regardless of budget and that is why they are moving up and we are moving down. Bemoan that they have a striker and we don’t if you like but that doesn’t wash as an argument over 7 league games.

Had a conversation with a Blackburn fan at work the other week, along the lines of why do we bother with fan forums!

What do people really expect Limbrick, or anyone, to be able to do?  We have no chance of attracting a manager that we can be sure of improving anything! So what are we achieving by saying Limbrick must go? intercourse all!

He may well not be a manager who is going to set the world on fire, but as someone who has a four hour roundtrip to attend every game i'm relieved he's got us actually playing football, using players in their correct positions, and not just lumping the ball up to Hanson all the time for him to knock the ball on into random space where there is likely to be no one there anyway.

We were the better team today, but are bereft of anyone who can finish. Is it really Limbricks fault that we have two retirement age forwards only just into 2 year contracts? We have a multitude of forwards, and they all have some qualities, but not one of them is an instinctive finisher! What do people expect him to do?

And with Fenty. How many of those bemoaning the state of Town voted Tory last week? Delusionally choosing simplistic answers will probably come back to bite you. I would love to see the back of Fenty, but thinking that is going to instantly resolve anything is as moronic as thinking a Tory government is going to do anything for Grimsby.

Absolutely agree. This is possibly the reason why the board have waited so long as they feel a takeover is so close and they'll want their own man. Quite likely to be putting candidates off applying as well. Why would you move your family to a different town to be sacked on day one of the new boards tenure?

Ask Alan Buckley to take over as caretaker until the end of the season or the new board is in place. I don't know if he'd do it, but would seem ideal.

Hursts recent humberside interview, hopefully the bad things that come with a local derby won’t happen and we can enjoy the game ..... tell your players when they score then not to run half the length of the pitch to intimidate town fans then !!!! that could’ve turned nasty and was a stupid thing to do, they had one maybe two real chances and took it we just cannot score a goal it’s been nearly 3 months it’s pathetic time for a change upstairs and a new manager in to kick these players up the a@se for all Limbricks enthusiasm and effort unfortunately it’s not worked and nice men win nothing we have the ability as shown early in the season so with new ideas and players our season could be turned around not expecting miracles but sick of what’s on show at present come on sort it out before it’s too late again !!!!! I said the same in the just back thread, but I actually think Limbrick has done an admirable job, and in at least 3 of the games, short of placing the ball in the net, I'm not sure what else he can do.

Some will say he is to blame for the lack of goalscorer, but realistically, how much input do assistant managers have beyond advising and toeing the manager's party line.

Ultimately, we've created so many clear cut chances that I'm genuinely intrigued what others think changing Limbrick would achieve?

Purely from a football point of view the play is neat, the ball is getting into the area more often but the quality wasn't good and chances were not exactly clear cut. They always had time to get loads of bodies back there.

While he has "improved" the product on the eye in some respects it has been at the expense of goals....yesterday our dynamic players Vernam and Wright were too far away from Scunny's less mobile players, their centre halves, who had the muscle on an isolated Green 2 v 1.
We looked solid and on top all over up until 25-30 yds from goal but with effectively 10 behind the ball we should look solid.

We went 2 up front later on which tested their centre halves but all too little too late.

Also...the dynamic corners and set pieces have disappeared from our play.....these at least threatened and produced goals earlier in the season.

Cant knock the effort of the players yesterday, or their togetherness but we need something different in the front line, whether that is fresh signings ( which we have no money for reportedly )  or a formation tweak giving us an actual dedicated front two.

AL doesnt seem to have grasped this.

Limbericks doing a good job in my eyes, got the team playing well. the goals will come, every team goes through this.
I think people are far too quick on here to say get rid, we will be fine.

Plus i think he will be staying on anyway, Ring getting his P45 sort of tells me he has made this decision, after all its the managers call and unless someone is working in the background without being announced yet it looks like Limberick.

Tbf thought we looked organised and played some decent football yesterday.. but let down big time again by the finishing and final pass.

Not sure what a new manager could do with them think the board are going to have to bring some more quality in up front to give whoever a chance.

I'd bring the young lad in from the academy who's smashing goals in for fun, is it Stead?..
Send Rose out on loan as I'm still not sure there's a striker of league quality in there and as for Cardwell...well, the least said the better..
Think another option up front is to put Vernham alongside Hanson, drop Green onto the left wing and Max out on the right...
I think it's the inability to see why were not scoring is what will see limbrick dropped as the number 1...also, he's brought in Davis as his assistant, surely we needed a striker coach not a defensive one!!

I'd bring the young lad in from the academy who's smashing goals in for fun, is it Stead?..

If he is over his illnesses and injuries I would play Ogbu in the main strikers role. He had only been on the field a couple of minutes yesterday and by clever and forceful play won a penatly, which for some unknown reason wasn't given.

I hope he gets an exended run and really shows what he can do.

Not nice I guess to sack someone in Xmas week I guess...but it doesn't look as if we have anyone else lined up.

Think that he will hang on to the New Year, and be gone once Uncle John has his man 'oven ready' to go.
