Zero width in that team. I guess it is lump it to Hanson today. Glad I decided not to make the 2000 mile round trip to lovely Stevenage!

Despite this being our “local” game can’t go today as away in the sun, but listening on RH where the summariser is Sophie Barton the GTFC ladies captain which is a good thing for RH and the club too I reckon.

Also listened to an interview with that bell chopper Peter Swann who made the following comment with regard to their ground development “who else has 4,000 people turn up on a Saturday”? He clearly doesn’t do numbers very well does he?

Usual defensive balderdash. Sat far too deep, stabding off them letting them cross the ball. Great backheel for the goal. Macca had no hope.

Whitehouse is just a poor man's Hessenthaler. He offers nothing playing out wide in a 4 man midfield. We'd be far better off with Vernam on the wing today (and even better with more than one, currently injured, natural winger in the squad)

Sounds like we can’t win and retain the ball? I understand we’re playing a 3 versus their 4 in mid field........again 🤬
Posted by: sonofmadeleymariner, October 12, 2019, 3:32pm; Reply: 17
Whitehouse on the wing does not work. He's too slow and always out of position and creates no width. He's switched to the right wing now because Hendrie was exposed but now Hewitt is.

By god do we miss max wright, any coincidence we play our best when we have pace out wide and not play Whitehouse on the wing and lump it to hanson.

I just feel in jolley we find a winning formula but then abandon it for whatever reason..

I know wright is injured but we still have the formula from previous games what works and what doesn't and playing Whitehouse out wide doesn't.

Pace pace pace

It's difficult to have a go at Jolley, but he's not seeing what's right under his nose, teams have sussed us out early on in the season and we appear one dimensional...just not good enough I'm afraid .. certainly aren't going to chase them play off places unless he learns how to change a game mid match .

If Whitehouse starts the second half then Jolley has completely lost the plot. He can't attack, he can't defend. What's the point in him? Miles too slow closing down their players in the lead up to both goals. Not remotely good enough for League Two football.

One word excrement. This is worse then Mansfield. The entire midifeld needs subbing at half time.

We don't have the players to play 442 so why are we? Zero pace. Whitehouse is lost on the wing provides no width, no cover and has spent half the game on his bottom. Midfield is too deep might as well be playing a back 8. Hoof after hoof after hoof because we can't pass 5 yards. The two strikers are on opposite sides of the field most of the time.

Positives at least Macca should be giving them a bollocking in the changing room he was really really drunk off. I thought he might of broke his foot how hadd he kicked the post after the first goal.

Well today ladies and gentlemen we have a michael jolley in a nutshell, we find a winning formula then abandon it.

Its what holds him back each and every time,  whenever we have played this Whitehouse out wide system we have looked terrible but for some bizarre reason Michael loves to abandon a winning formula.

Frustrating and completely bizarre.

Whether he reads reports on the opposition and feels we need to counteract it I don't know, but my opinion is let the opposition worry about you and if it works don't change it.

Hendrie - use some of your training time working on your left foot.  I did when i was younger and I only played Sunday league. And what's with all these lopping crosses? Not to mention short corners.

This resonates with me, I think both Jolley and Limbrick stick to the “modern manual” and I just wonder if selection is based upon lap top stats rather than who’s making a difference. Look what happens when we make a change Limerick spends ages talking our subs through a p1ssing diagram???

I know in reality we do t have much to pick from after the first 11 but we seem to ignore what’s going on after the start of every game and just see a game plan through, sometimes it works but quite often now it’s being sussed out.

Lost count how many times we lose to a side on a poor run or bottom of the league, maybe the players have begun to believe the bull sh1t?

To be fair to Hendrie it’s not his fault the manager picks him out of position.

I’m not sure how hard Davis has had to work to get back into the team but from what I’ve seen since his return he’s been less than average.

I feared the worst when we signed Hanson because I thought we would become "One dimensional" and sadly I seem to have been proved right. It's a simple game really.  Saw it against Mansfield... you are never going to "out clog" a bunch of cloggers.

We seem to be very good at trying to put square pegs in round holes trying to nullify the more basic teams in this division. We end up making ourselves worse off and bringing our quality down to the level of opponents.  By doing this alone we have lost de facto. Just a thought; but lets pick our best team and play to our strengths ?

I don’t know if he really planned the Exeter win or not. Easy to say after a good result and performance. He had to rest players after the Chelsea chasing so his options were actually limited. The result must have been a pleasant surprise but what to do then? Money was spent to bring in Hanson and Green probably on the promise of game time so we revert to Plan A, a team with no pace and easy to stop for a side like Stevenage with a bit of clogging.

MJ seems to overthink things but worse than that, he is stubborn in not realising what works and what doesn’t in this division.

He 'stubbornly' believed Max to be an impact player despite his record of goals and assists over the last two seasons. He has been just as stubborn in not seeing how Green and Whitehouse have been really poor generally.

Buckley used to say instead of worrying about the opposition, play your best team and let them worry about you.

He did okay.

Couldn’t agree more. Quite exasperated when I heard MJ say he’d set up according to how he thought the bottom of the league team might set up. Sounded like Hurst.

Maybe your definition of progress Swin is going backwards 😉

I don’t think I’m the only one though who thinks we are generally moving in a more positive direction

It is most definitely not positive to give so much respect to a side that had not won a game and had only scored 8 goals before today that you base your team selection and tactics on what THEY might do. Positive would be to select a side that is going to make them do the worrying.
Team selections and performances are incredibly inconsistent and for no obviously good reason than the manager's whims and fancies. I can only think he wants/needs to keep certain players happy.

You make some reasnoable points RRFC

I don't know what Jolley & Limbrick saw in their tactics and selection but can only assume they didn't put a team out today to deliberately lose

My initial response about progress wasn't about this game alone though, but on where Jolley started from with us and where we now find ourselves

I don't think losing the game today ( and/or losing last week either ) means, as per Swin's demands, that Jolley should be meeting JF to say that he's going to have to fall on his sword.  ;D

How about 'resign now', we are just not going forward under this man

I agree although maybe not fully with your conclusion. I think it’s more managerial naivety or lack of confidence from experience.
I haven’t heard the post match interview but I’d be interested to hear if he says he got it wrong.

I like Jolley a lot and I think he’s intelligent and articulate but I’m not convinced he is learning some of his lessons. He seems much more adept at setting up to play a turnover/on the break system against a strong team than any other scenario and he messes with the team too much, for me, even though I agree with using your squad and ‘horses for courses’. He is criminally short of natural width in the squad (one player) and that’s an oversight in my view.

It’s now his squad and its’ make up is in his hands. I truly believe that the squad is good enough for the play offs but he needs to field his best team and if that means leaving Hanson, Green and Whitehouse out then so be it.

Looking at the highlights,  same old faults. For the first goal Whitehouse backing off until the forward got into a position where he could create a goal-fking amateurish. The second goal their winger trapped near the corner flag by 2 of ours. He kicks the ball through Davis' legs who doesn't realise the ball has gone and continues to hold the player against the corner flag-what an embarrassment.  This team and the coaches should be sent to Bradley pitches in the morning and hopefully learn to play football. Most of them are getting money under false pretences.

Defending for their goals is really p1ss poor. Nowhere near enough effort/pressure on the ball at any time and the first goal especially - that cross does not come in! End of. Far too easy for them.

Talk about frustrating, we beat a top of the table side unbeaten all season via a inspired team selection.

Then lose TWO matches on the trot one to a bunch of cloggers and the second without a win all season by playing with no width or pace thus nulifying our midfield????

WTF I thought Jolley and Co were on the ball but they were out foxed thinking even a bottom of the table side would fold to a side with no width and no pace.

Our midfield is weak and as no cretivity because it has no width, Our attack is just the big boot up to Hanson hope he can musle out two/three defenders???

The frustating part in all this is WE HAVE THE PLAYERS IN THAT SQUAD THAT CAN HANDLE THIS AND HAVE DONE.

Is Jolley just giving certain players the chance to play through loyalty instead of form? it seems so it was obvious the system today was set up wrong again please have the courage to ring the changes.

We need to set up to attack teams and pressure opposition home and away we have proved we can beat the best respect but do not give opposition ammo to attack you ffs.

We have kick started two bottom feeders season Jolley, plaese  no more freebies at our expense.

Losing against sides that were in terrible form prior to playing us has been a very real issue for us for quite a while.
