Like it, often thought Max Wright would force his way into the starting eleven sooner or later, and Pollock just a kid so fair to ease him into things.

How did Hanson miss that?   ??)

Hanson one on one with the keeper and puts it wide.

Town are well on top.

It's about time the ref gave their no 6 a card for constantly complaining over nothing.

Green on for an injured Wright, he's been kicked to death its hardly a shock Ref needs to do something about it.

Wright off for Green.

Injured but doesn't look too bad.

Good first half, but Max going off and Green coming on means we'be lost our pace up front, nothing against Green but watching since maybe Rose should of come on instead.

Midfield and back 4 looking solid, we're playing a nice mix of passing football and direct balls. Its just not fropping for us in the box.

Hansons offside goal was a lovely team goal and I still can't believe his chip shot at the open goal when 1 on 1 with the keeper went wide.

Last 15 minutes of the half, they really started to play as spoilers - three men surrounding Hanson, pushing and shoving before the ball reaches him, lots of pulling and nudges. Unfortunately, it's working as the referee is letting them get away with it. Their non-stop moaning from the first whistle seems to have worked as it is influencing his decisions.

Unfortunately, both Cook and Robson are struggling to get into the game so we're a bit light on attacking numbers when we get into advanced positions. Mansfield have looked poor for much of the half but we didn't take advantage.

Curiously flat atmosphere considering a decent following from Mansfield. Town well on top but not making enough of dead ball situations, some being woeful. Hanson should surely have buried the one and one and the offside was never in question. Just lacking a bit of spark to liven up the game and home crowd. Referee truly awful.

Just watched the replay no way it was harsh especially under the new rules, dives in studs up off the ground, gives the ref no choice.

They seem to be playing better with ten men.

The ref is having a shocker, booking Green.

Ref is having a shocker but that was Greens 5th foul in 10 minutes.

Rose on for Ogbu

The club had best be making a complaint about this ref now after that. We win the corner, holds play up for an injured man and then gives them a drop ball. He needs shooting for that.

Posted by: Maringer, October 5, 2019, 5:01pm; Reply: 36
Their shithouse tactics worked, aided and abetted by a truly incompetent referee and our own ineptitude.

Mansfield are a horrible team who were there for the taking and we weren't nearly good enough to beat them.
Posted by: Maringer, October 5, 2019, 5:02pm; Reply: 37
Oh, and I reckon they had about 3 players offside in the middle when that free-kick was taken. Cook was certainly miles off.
Posted by: Mayaman, October 5, 2019, 5:02pm; Reply: 38
Odd decisions by the referee, gamesmanship form Mansfield and Town's lack of passing when the opposition were down to 10 men cost us the game.  How much time did they waste.

Bit dramatic to say it’s a blown away in seconds. Frustrating? Yeah! Stumble? Yeah. Blown away? Not unless you lead an even duller life than me.

Shocked! Never let your expectations run too high with the Mariners. If you do you will get brought back to earth very quickly.
Posted by: Stockport Mariner, October 5, 2019, 5:05pm; Reply: 41
We just didn’t create any chances. We are much better when we can counter, at home when we have to break teams down we struggle. Doesn’t help when the quality of crosses into the box are woeful, and the delivery from free kicks especially was terrible. We never seem to have enough players in the box either. Max Wright going off and the change of formation was a turning point and Green was especially ineffective.
Posted by: Badger57, October 5, 2019, 5:07pm; Reply: 42
Mansfield were excrement and we weren't good enough. Most of the deliveries were shocking and I knew, just KNEW  that was going to happen at the end.

Shocking reffing, shocking performane from Green,(every attack broke down at his feet) we had little going forward once Wright had been kicked out of the game  Well done Robson and Hess, Onwards and hopefully upwards but I am seriously fuming at the incompetence of this referee allowing them to get away with so much and having no idea about the laws of the game.
Posted by: sonofmadeleymariner, October 5, 2019, 5:12pm; Reply: 44
We went downhill the moment Wright got subbed. Green was the wrong sub today should of been Rose, like for like pace not to mention Green was excrement today no other words for it.

We started bright, a mix of short quick passes and direct balls. Once Wright went off it went downhill, Green coming on didn't work and the adjustments to our shape/personel positioning didn't work.

Second half was a shocker when they went down to 10 men we should.of passed them off the pitch, instead it looked like we were down to 10 men and just aimlessly hoofed the ball forward. You could see the winner comung the moment they got the freekick.

The ref needs sacking after that I'm not saying anything else on the matter he was just that bad today, but that shouldn't be used as an excuse for our poor performance.
Posted by: toontown, October 5, 2019, 5:16pm; Reply: 45
Typical town against a team low on confidence we let them off. Decent first half without being great but poor second half and we never seemed to know how to make them work when down to 10. Awful set pieces from us especially.
The ref was one of the very worst I've ever seen in over 30 years and was the worst at losing control of a game I think. His performance probably contributed to the scenes at the end with the aggro between players. I really do hope the club put in a formal complaint because that refereeing is not acceptable for the football league. Bizarre.

Lots of effort but zero intelligence from Town

We wasn't good enough, but my god the ref did everything in his powers to prevent a game of football. Over 30 fouls in the game, some truly mind boggling decisions, and at one point he had to put his hand up to apologiae after he let their player back on whilst he waa stood next to Hess. I genuinely can't remember what happened in the last 30 minutes apart from hearing his whistle. If I performed like that in my job, I'd be shown the door.

3 points lost today, and we need to play better, but I'm not too disheartened.

Just one of those games today I think. Difficult to get anything going and somewhat standard GTFC when we follow up a great performance with a poor one. Failed to take advantage of 10 men and struggled to create much. Should have done more in the first half as the second was always going to be downhill.

This perfectly sums it up for me, as angry as I was at the ref through the game and livid at timewasting Mansfield, I feel we could've done more to win that, though I wouldn't say it was a bad performance by us. Just that we could've been more inventive, felt like we were hoofing it up to Hanson when we should've been playing it out from the back, and then bizarrely playing it out from the back when we absolutely should've been hoofing it up to Hanson.

Feel like our set pieces have gone downhill from the start of the season and we seem to line up the same way for every corner and free kick and make things easy for the other team.

And last of all I don't really wanna attack green but feel like it was unfair on ogbu to have to move out wide to make way for him when he came on, feel like theres a reason we lined up the way we did today at the start today and we should've tried to stick with it somehow when wright came off.

Again thought most the game we actually played decent just think these points are what will make the difference in games like this

Very poor game the worst Mansfield side i’ve seen for a long time.
Town where shocking in the second half why can we not pass the ball more than 3 times.
And just lumping the ball in the box for Hanson very poor from Town and MJ today.

Once they went down to ten men Jolley should have brought Hansen off , although he had a decent game, and brought some pace Ono force us to play on the deck, also thought Hess's set piece deliveries were poor today.

I was sat in the pontoon right behind the incidence and I can tell you the ball had crossed the line before he blew his whistle, even their defender was chasing the ball to prevent the corner, the referee would be better suited being employed by Billy Smart than the FA...absolute frigging, clueless clown...

Okay gobby, if it didn't cross the line, which it definitely did as the ref even waited for the ball to go out off the field of play before allowing the supposedly injured player to receive treatment, did Jolley say the referee had apologised to him for making the mistake of not giving the corner??.....
Posted by: gobby, October 6, 2019, 10:40am; Reply: 56
Northbank, the Ref blew up before it crossed the line as the Lino did not indicate a corner at all! It was shocking to see him do this but by Law he restated play correctly, he apologised for not waiting until the ball had left the FOP. Hopefully highlights will show what a poor decision this was, as well as letting the player to enter play whilst the game was progressing near the touch line whilst he was waiting to re enter play. All told he was totally incompetent and should be reprimanded in the Match Observers report. Let’s hope we also improve v Stevenage! 8)

Sounds like we did not play well enough and should not hide behind refereeing incompetence

Opposing teams will try to neutralise our threats, and however foul their tactics were, Mansfield stopped Hanson and Wright playing.

We need to learn from this and expect poor officiating to continue.

The playoffs and better are still achievable if we get a bit more streetwise

we didn't deserve to lose but it happens a good old smash and grab. we have improved from last season and we could mount a play-off push in my opinion. gutting as yesterday was am still optimistic about this season.
